Welsch Makes His Case
Jiri makes some good points about his game and how he fits into the lineup. One thing to keep in mind is how Doc will handle personalities. I think the way Paul and Ricky are talking, it would mean more to them to have Ricky start. I don't think Doc will overlook that. Jiri is going to be much more comfortable "blending into the background," and contributing in a non-glamorous role than Ricky ever would.
Also, Raef is not going to be timid with his knee:
"I just want to go through with a 100 percent workload," he said. "Then I'll have a better idea of what to expect."
This makes me cringe a little because I can just see him pushing too hard and hearing something pop. On the other hand, you can't have a guy playing at 80% speed out there because he'll be of no use to your team. I guess he's as healed as he's going to be, so its time to go all out and see where we are. I guess the early season will be one long moment of truth. If he can make it the whole season, then we might just get some good return on the salary he's being paid. If not, we could be looking at a Grant Hill situation.
When healthy, he could be a big difference maker. The way Doc wants to use him, at the high post, gives me visions of a better shooting Vlade Divac.
