Pierce is still adjusting to the system, but at least some key teammates are "getting it" early on.
Welsch has adjusted well to the "read and react" offense. He became accustomed to playing within a system that demands discipline and patience and requires a high basketball IQ in Europe. Although coming off the bench, Welsch appears best suited for the style Rivers wishes to play, in no small part because he doesn't demand the ball and feels comfortable moving without it.
The surprise of the preseason may be the way Davis has embraced the system. Recognizing his shot was not falling against the Nets, Davis focused on finding open teammates and finished with a game-high six assists.
Good news of the day, Tony Allen is alright:
Tony Allen, in true rookie fashion, enthusiastically went off for his therapy session with trainer Ed Lacerte after practice.
``It was nothing,'' the guard said, spreading his arms wide in a ``safe'' sign to explain that an MRI test taken on his hyperextended left knee came back negative.
