Tony Allen Hurts Knee
Dickerson is reporting Tony will have an MRI on the knee, but it sounds like he's torn something.
Ugh.
Is anyone going to be left standing at the end of the year? This season is done. I'm legitimately depressed.
By the way, not surprisingly, the Celtics lost the game too.

Terrible news. Now there’s almost no fun reason to watch the Celtics. Hopefully the C’s run more actual plays for Gerald now like the screen they did earlier.
I know people are going to call Tony stupid for continuing on with the play, but I for one right now am not mad at him. It’s how he plays.. may not be the absolute smartest way, but it’s like the higher than average turnovers he gets… he may get a lot, but b/c of that style he gets a lot of steals too.
i’m miserable right now. i just feel so awful for tony. who knows if he’s ever the same again. who else has seriously injured both their knees and recovered? kenyon martin’s done again. other examples? someone say something to make me happy again!

A torn ACL could end Tony’s career as his entire game is built on athletism.

terrible timing for TA’s injury. He was playing great and his trade stock was at its peak, may be unlikely for DA now to make an impact deal at the deadline.

well, microfracture knee surgery is the kind that seems to really mess people up, especially ultra-athletic players. if tony doesn’t need that (assuming he tore some tendons, which it sounds like he probably did), he could be ok next year. keep in mind that top speed WRs in football do often come back 100% 6-8 months after ACL surgery…

Ray is not in the DL because we cannot pull 12 healthy people for the roster. At this rate, he’ll start soon, too.
Trade? What trade? Does everyone here get so excited when they see a keyboard, so their brain shuts off or something? We’ve been waiting for years for those players to live up to their potential, and when one of them finally does… everyone wants to trade him
Oh wait, I forget, noone on this roster will be any good if their name isn’t Gerald Green or Al Jefferson. They’re all trade fodder. Heeeellllooooo?
Al Harrington actually tore his ACL and came back as strong as ever (it happened against us while Tony Battie was guarding him). Speedy Claxton did it his first game in the NBA and came back to be very effective. Baron Davis tore his in college and is no worse for wear. In the NFL Jamal Lewis tore both of his ACL’s as well in each knee. He only followed that up with a 2000 yard rushing season and an MVP award. Needless to say ACL tears are not nearly as bad as they used to be. But Tony will definitely need to add a nice jumper to his arsenal, that’s for sure.
Im devastated…..this is a new low….really wish we could just fast forward to the offseason at this point….as Ive said before, this franchise just cant shake the dark cloud thats been over it since ’86….

Every player in the league does that after a foul. It was a stupid thing but it common in the nba.

Why is no one mentioning that Allen is a complete idiot for even doing that? He does that crap constantly. I love that he plays hard, but why even bother going for a power dunk that means NOTHING.

What an unmidigated tragedy. Tony we are thinking good thoughts…

comparing football injuries to basketball injuries is foolish. I understand the point about JLewis. and new Tech, helps injuries but this is bad very bad and i just cant be positive about it. Its like this was the final battle of a war we are not winning…

Player development and the lottery. That’s what he have to look forward to. Hopefully Tony is able to come back in decent shape next season, but this was a terrible blow to the squad. Minutes will be pretty easy to parcel out now as we have run out of guys to ignore. Veal hurt himself, too, which means that Powe is in. Play who we have and let them learn. Wins mean nothing now, we have to think about next season.

Best wishes to Tony. I really hope he can bounce back from this, it looked bad.
The worst part is that his 80 year old grandmother was at the game visiting because it was her birthday this week… that’s just wrong.

For all the people who say that Tony did something stupid, I have to ask- would you be happier if Celtics players were all totally dispassionate? (Mark Blount, I’m looking in your direction…) Seriously though, Tony was displaying some life and passion. Maybe he was trying to fire himself up, or his team, or the fans, or all of the above- is that such a bad thing?
Was the dunk necessary? No. Was it abysmally stupid? No. It was a pretty routine follow-through move, but accidents happen, and he went down hard. Sometimes, that’s all there it is to it.
if the pats lose im going to killmyself

It looked for a few minutes there like the C’s were somehow coming back. Then the crowd started to cheer. That was the worst thing that could have happened. Indiana realized at that point that the game was close again, so they effortlessly knocked down a few jumpers. Then I turned the TV off, but I assume that all I missed was Allan Ray getting stuffed trying to hit a fade away three over some guy that is 5 inches taller than him.
i think it’s absolutely ridiculous to say tony has no brain because he tried to dunk it after the whistle. do we really need to count how many times all the great players in this league do it, or will you just take my word for it?
thanks for the info about ACL’s to those who provided it. as for the rest of this season, let’s see if we can get gerald to drive the ball to the hoop a little more. we’re not going to win, but we can at least build towards something.

again, as long as he doesn’t need microfracture knee surgery, i think tony should come back fine. i’m still hoping its a major sprain instead of torn ligaments, but even if its ACL/MCL tears, he should be okay in the long-run.

Trade for Mark Madsen and Warm up ML Carr. Just in case.

Ughhh so much for the logjam at the 2-3 spots :(

People bounce back from torn ACL’s all the time, it’s the microfracture surgery that screws them up… and Amare has shown that even that isn’t a guarantee.

Poor Tony. I hope he comes back okay. I was really starting to root for the guy. He was my favorite player now outside of Pierce.

Now, if I sit down next year for the draft and I find that Ainge traded the pick again… I will go ballistic on my T.V.
I’m wanting to get a new plasma/HD T.V. anyway and the Mrs. says no this one is working fine. Go ahead Danny, trade the pick, at least I get a new TV out of it next year!

It’s too bad that TA got hurt doing something that was unneccessary. However, don’t blame him for continuing to go to the hoop after he was fouled. It just shows how aggressive he is when he’s penetrating. Also, if some of you guys play basketball you would know that it’s pretty common for players to keep going after they get fouled. I don’t think he was showing off at all. He was probably 1)excited that he almost blew by his defender again, and 2) trying to get the crowd into it by dunking the ball.
If we don’t get a long look at Gerald Green now…

finally saw the play…it looked bad, but i’m still holding on to some hope that he sprained his knee. it didn’t look like his knee bended horribly, which is usually what you see when tendons tear. though he was going at a pretty fast speed, MAYBE it might not be torn…let’s hope.

Do you think if we act quickly we can trade Tony Allen to the Knicks for a 2nd round draft pick before they even notice that Allen hurt?
by BigAl7 on Jan 11, 2007 1:08 AM EST reply actions
well thats answers the question how could this season be even more irrelevant…
by havlicekstoletheball on Jan 11, 2007 1:24 AM EST reply actions
Tony Allen was looking like a key ingredient and a great complement to Paul. He could take the other team’s best 2-3 and play good D, and he was developing a more complete offensive game. You could see his confidence skyrocketing, you could see him taking the mantle of leadership and trying to put this team on his back. This really really sucks.
Now I think Telfair, who I’ve been down on all season, gets a chance to assert himself. I wouldn’t be suprised if he finally steps up and grows like TA did, b/c now he can’t sit back and be passive. We might see more of Rondo and Telfair together, and I like that idea, if they both attack the basket.
It’s also a chance for Gomes to get back into the starting line-up at small forward. We’ve already got Powe, Scal, and Kandi backing up Al and Perk down low.

just when it all starts to come together it all falls apart. too bad for him, hopefully this will prevent DA from trading him and he will recover for next year. He will be key if we want to make any noise out of the east.
I could see a little 3 headed monster forming for next year with TA, PP and AJ(if we can get him the ball). Best wishes for Tony.
who’da thunkit at the begining of the season that this is what we would be watching? We probably woulda been happy if he hurt himself back then, now he was our final hope at salvaging the season.
TANK TIME!! – just embrace it folks it will be better for us in the long run.
by BigAlBeezy on Jan 11, 2007 1:53 AM EST reply actions
heres hoping it was only a torn acl or a really bad sprain, cause if he tore his mcl too, then tony is done, and will NEVER play like he was recently

Tony Allen gave us all new hope for the season.
sad to admit it.
but everyone here was thinking, when Pierce gets back, Tony al and Pierce are going to light stuff up….
Now we have nothing to look at… When pierce gets back we’ll be the same team as last year…
If Tony can come back strong, which I hope he can…. Next season looks nice…. but in all honesty
I’m dog tired of saying NEXT SEASON
Jefferson, Powe, Green, Allen Ray, and Rondo are the best of the rest with Perkins, Gomes, Telfair and “Kandi” off the bench. Looking forward to West stepping in at to for Allen Ray. All is not lost, but it has certainly been diminished by the loss of Tony. He was playing very well. The roster of 14 has become 8 plus Kandi. 3 starters with West, Pierce, and Tony plus sixth man injured. And, still they fight. More Rondo and Powe. Let Allen Ray shoot. Green will step up. Let’s go Celtics.
This is really something for me to say, but I really dont think Im gonna watch much more of this season…its just gonna be that bad with Pierce seriously hurt, now Allen, Szczerbiak constantly hurt, Kandi, Ratliff, West in and out, Jeff and Perk have been out, now even Scalabrine…….Im not one of the fan who endorses losing for the sake of a pick….very simply, I want the Celts TO WIN….no matter what…but until this black cloud over the team dissipates, I just cant take it…im begging for the offseason to come at this point…..anyone ever seen a b-ball team get this many injuries??
by NUMBA 17 on Jan 11, 2007 8:14 AM EST reply actions
All the injuries this year: Perk, Al, West, Wally, Theo,Pierce, Allen, etc what’s next?…. wait, the barn’s on fire, the barn’s on fire!
