Big Al OK

Steve Bulpett reports:

The Celtics got some good news today when Al Jefferson said he’s feeling much better and will be able to play tomorrow night in Toronto.

Jefferson suffered a mild right ankle sprain in the fourth quarter of Wednesday’s loss to Atlanta and did not return to the game. But the swelling isn’t bad, and while he can still feel some discomfort he plans to play against the Raptors.

No reason to rush him back. Play Kandi. Rest AL

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

he shouldn’t play if he feels any pain, it is just asking for disaster

I hope Doc sit him for at least this game. I know we want to win one but I prefer to protect the “Gold”

You could see that he was taped and that it wasn’t serious. He could have come back and played the 4th quarter last night, and he would have come back if the Celtics had wanted to win the game.

Memphis Gets:

Kendrick Perkins
Ryan Gomes
Sebastion Telfair
Wally Szczerbiak

  1. Draft Pick

Boston Gets:
Pau Gasol
Chucky Atkins

We can’t let the future of our team be decided by ping pong balls. A combination of Gasol and Jefferson would be one of the best front courts in the league. It’s clear that Telfair isn’t going to fit with this team and Wally can’t stay on the court. If Perkins keeps playing the way he did against the Hawks the other night then he will be a key part of this trade. Ryan Gomes is also an attractive player that won’t really have a role here once Gerald Green fully develops. Chucky Atkins is a nice safety net incase Delonte has more trouble with his back.

Eash. Our futute is Gasol & Atkins?! They can have a Wally & change.

by LuckyNumber07 on Jan 25, 2007 10:52 PM EST reply actions

I don’t want Gasol at expense of our ping pong balls. Maybe I’m basing this mostly off of what I saw of Gasol vs. the Celtics, but He’s not a real center. And really, neither is Jefferson. I’d rather a top 3 pick over Gasol at this point, and besides, his contract is rather burdensome for this team. Though… getting rid of Wally has it’s extreme appeal.

Remember one thing Danny maybe mulling over regarding Gasol. He has to weigh the pros / cons of getting him for this team not only for this year but future years plus he has to weigh Gasol vs. whoever he might want with the 3RD PICK in this June’s draft. There will still be better odds we do not end up with a choice at one or two.

SIT HIM FOR A MONTH!!!!!!!!

by rickyfan3.0... on Jan 26, 2007 7:05 AM EST reply actions

TomHamilton,

…the flaw I see in your logic is the fact that in today’s NBA you don’t need a real center. Either Al or Pau gets swallowed up by Shaq, I agree, but Shaq is unique and I think they can both hold their own against Jermaine O’Neil, Tim Duncan etc. Gasol is just 26 yet he’s a proven talent of All-Star caliber with an almost-spotless injury history. I do say that if we land him we write it into his contract that he can’t play for Spain over the summer though. I still vote for the bird in the hand, not Oden Dreamland.

Delontrey you must’ve lost your mind to think we want Gasol that bad to give up half a team for one player. What happens if that one player who you believe can turn around this teams fortune gets hurt and can’t play for a whole season or two ? You crossed the line when you said to give them a #1 pick and on top of that give them Ryan Gomez I don’t think so everyone else in that package is fine with a second round pick or maybe next years first round pick but not this years.

Glad to hear Big Al is ok. Does anybody know if they make any steel ankle tape so none of us have to go through another heart attack watching Al crumble to the floor?? I nearly soiled myself when he went down. :-\

by Dickretro on Jan 26, 2007 10:26 AM EST reply actions

No reason to rush BIGAL back. A few extra days to heal completely makes more sense then playing hurt.

by scndtony on Jan 26, 2007 10:33 AM EST reply actions

Rest AL, PP, and Wally for another month… at least.

That should do well for our lottery chances…

by Rainman on Jan 26, 2007 11:02 AM EST reply actions

Let Al sit until the ankle is 101%. We’ll be 12-30 after tonight regardless whether he plays or not. So we lose by 23 instead of 16.

by Celtsfansince55 on Jan 26, 2007 11:37 AM EST reply actions

Glad to hear it’s not serious.

NOT glad to hear we’re not being careful with this – if there’s pain…which i think constitutes the ankle not being 100%, why risk it?

by TheUndertow on Jan 26, 2007 12:37 PM EST reply actions

Delontrey,
Why would we want Gasol? That is just an awful trade scenario.
We need the #1 or #2 pick. It’s that easy.

I’d rather have this lineup:
Jefferson
Pierce
Oden/Durant
Delonte/Rajon
Wally/Gomes

Looks a little bit nastier than a lineup with a stiff like Gasol

by Plixx on Jan 26, 2007 2:44 PM EST reply actions

if we got gasol then we wood most likely have a pick thats out of the top 5. and plixx i dont think we wood be able to draft durant with our second round pick. just a hunch
