Tank-Friendly TV Guide

Just thought I'd make people aware of the armchair scouting possibilities for tonight.

First, you have a unique opportunity to watch Kevin Durant and Greg Oden back to back on ESPN 2. (6:00 PM and 9:00 PM)

Next, if you would like to scout the other lottery-looking teams, the NBA League Pass should still be doing their free trial and tonight provides some "great" matchups of bad teams.  Here they are (all times Eastern):

  • 7:00 PM 76ers (13-31) at Hawks (15-26)
  • 8:00 PM Trail Blazers (18-26) at Grizzlies (11-33)
  • 10:30 PM Bobcats (15-27) at Warriors (20-23)

Also, if you were paying attention last night, you would have seen the Sonics (17-26) squeek past the TWolves (20-22) and the Hornets (17-25) take one from the Kings (17-24).

Its a plethera of pathetic teams!  Set your TiVo's and DVR's accordingly.

Nice! After tonight, if Memphis takes Portland, we could be tied with least wins. Also, either Philly or Atl will win tonight, so that bodes well too. Oden, here we come!!!

Let’s go Memphis. Take out the Blazers!! Whooo!!

Thanks for the info on the games, especially Durant and Oden.

No, we want the Blazers to win.

by Brickowski on Jan 27, 2007 12:05 PM EST reply actions

don’t we want the teams with fewer wins to win? I think we want the Griz to win. doesn’t matter much, tonight 3 teams HAVE to win.

every time one of these teams beats someone they shouldn’t (Griz over the Jazz) makes me happy

by the way, here is my quick scouting report on the TWolves and Sonics

Sonics are on their way up the standings – Allen Ray is healthy and looking as good as ever. Collison and Wilcox are really coming on strong, which opens things up further for Ray. Ridnour hasn’t separated from Earl Watson but they are expecting to get Rashard Lewis back soon – he was just cleared to start shooting with his hurt hand.

TWolves are treading water. They have too much talent to be really bad. KG won’t let it happen. Foye is a good talent. The problem is that everyone else is limited. Mike James has been a disappointment. Mark Blount is rebounding a little better but still can’t play defense. Ricky Davis is streaky-good but still has “issues” (suspended one game for refusing to enter a game). Oh yeah, and they just canned their coach. I think they finish around .500 on the season.

Think of it this way. Last night Doc plays Scali 21 minutes and essentially benches Po(we) who has been playing well. Scali gets 4 rebounds (two of those were off missed free throws – wow). He scores no points. He is supposed to be our PF and he can’t outrebound either of our three guards last night????

My point? If we still have Doc next year running the clipboard and playing nonsensical musical chairs with the rotation we can potentially negate the much of the “Value” of getting an Oden or Durant.

The only Kool-aid I want to sip right now is not kind being brewed by the “big man” excitement of the draft – it’s the Jim Jones Final Solution Kool-aid…… until we find a coach or whomever was responsible for Scali being played over PO(we) and other travesties we are having to witness.

Peace

and plese nobody tell me Doc played Scali because we are trying to tank. He played Scali long before “the tank” began and neither Doc nor Scali will be any smarter or better next year.

New Horses but the same worthless jockey equals a bASSy view of the other horses and jockeys I don’t need to see.

We will win a game when the Griz, Sixers etc. are up on us in the win column by a few games. We aren’t going to let them beat us out of our lotto balls.

Next year when we start the season all this agony will be forgotten, and we will be laughing our way to the finals. :D

MasterPo … don’t worry, Doc will be gone before too long. No sense firing him this year as he’s doing a masterful (ML Carr-like) job at guiding us to the most ping pong balls.

Jeff, do you think that there’s a way Danny can schedule a workout between Oden, Durant, and Gasol just so we know where we’re at in regards to trading the pick?

Jeff, I think you meant Ray Allen…
Either way, its been a long season so far so hopefully there is some hope at the end. Didnt mean to be another editor.

Thanks for the info, Jeff. Scout the kids and see how our “competition” is doing. What a season this has been. The humanity!!!!! >:(

Po

I have to disagree, Doc playing Scal last night over Powe was the absolute right move. Toronto’s bigs are very skilled and are more perimeter oriented players. Powe would have had a hell of a time trying to stay in front of either Bosh or Garbarjosa. Scal actually was pretty effective when he was out there.

Busy all day long and Im only now getting a chance to read the boston sports papers. Funniest thing I’ve read so far, courtesy of Peter May…

“It’s frustrating for us. It’s frustrating for any team to lose 10 in a row,” said Al Jefferson, who had 20 points and 10 rebounds after three quarters, sat out the first 5:34 of the fourth, and finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Im telling you, the digs at the coaching staff are getting better and better.

And if anyone wants to tell me it wasnt ment to be a dig at the name I refuse to speak/type… I refuse to believe you.

Great game by Durant. Oden looking like a defensive monster. These guys are going to turn around the lucky franchises that draft them

Philly wins, Grizz into OT..

Gasol is such a joke. Yeah let Zach Randolph score 40 on you and lose. This guy sucks..

by JHTruth on Jan 27, 2007 10:56 PM EST reply actions

Randolph went 16-39 for 42 pts. WOW, thats Antoine-ish.

Gasol 24 13 & 5 blks, and 13 turnovers!!!

I still want Gasol though.

by Kakopedi on Jan 27, 2007 11:29 PM EST reply actions

screw Gasol if it costs us this year’s draft pick. Go Philly, Atlanta, Griz, etc.!!!

by TomHamilton30 on Jan 28, 2007 12:30 AM EST reply actions

Mmm, sure, and what happens when we end up with the 4th pick and net perennial “solid roleplayer” and hustle guy Joakim Noah?

by kozlodoev on Jan 28, 2007 8:15 AM EST reply actions

Noah is going to be alot better than that. He is a ferocious offensive rebounder, and handles the ball so well tht he could be a small forward if he develops a jump shot. He’s already much better than Anderson Varejao, a player that many here covet.

Yes, I saw that and had to laugh. It occurs to me that Rivers’ reputation for colossal stupidity and consistently horrible game management actually protects the Celtics from allegations of tanking by the league office. With any competent coach, you would realize that he was tanking on purpose. With Rivers, there is always an element of doubt.

Holding Jefferson out wasn’t even his worst move. Subbing in the ice cold Telfair with 5 minutes left in a close game was simply mind boggling. Tell us Doc, was this for defensive purposes?

This is so spot on it’s scary….Surprised nobody else mentioned it. Nice one right there doc.
