Players Say "Just Win Baby"
Here are some links from Boston Sports Media Watch:
Steve Bulpett has the Celtics being very self-critical in a team meeting yesterday in an effort to shake the soap opera theme of "The young and the winless." Shira Springer says that the Celtics might finally be angry enough to break out of this 11 game losing streak. Bill Reynolds hopes the losing continues for the rest of the season. Bulpett's notebook says that the Celtics still have hopes of turning the season around rather than going into the lottery. Â
Bonus link: Yahoo writer Adrian Wojnarowski comes right out and calls the Celtics "tankers."
FYI: Patrick Gilroy will be on FSN Sports Tonight.

On a team full of letdowns this year, I think Ainge has had the worst year of any Celtic.
*Traded a lottery pick for a 3rd string high schooler
*Missed out on AI for .75 cents on the dollar
*Missed out on Boozer
*Is currently missing out on Pau for .75 on the dollar,
*And without a doubt worst of all, kept Doc around to develop our 20yr old team knowing full well he couldn’t get it done. Those pre-season lineups of 4 pg’s and RG showed us all Doc did little to nothing in the offseason to prepair himself to coach this team. Ainge should have canned him right then and there.
And now DA appears to be tanking the season he dedicated to Red…
Ainge has no Celtic Pride.
We are missing two of our three top players, one is a top 15 player in the NBA, the other is an energy and defense guy who was quickly becoming the leader of this team. Boozer is good, but Utah pulled the plug on that one, we didn’t, do you really want Boozer over Jefferson?

If I were Wyc, not the family of bloggers who have no money on the table, I would stick it out with Danny, Doc and this woeful group until season end. If they don’t show some winning, 4th Qtr, fire-in-belly streak then the problem runs deeper than one good draft pick. These young guys are not just getting out-experienced. They’re getting out-hustled. They are getting crushed on the boards by middling talent like Brendan Haywood. Teams are finding wide open 12 ft shots because our young guys aren’t running like the next basket counts. That means you Gerald, Perk, Sebastian, Ryan, Allan, Kandi. Al is gassed but working. Delonte lays it down. Rondo is out of control but in a positive way. Scal hustles but has no confidence on O. Powe doesn’t get let loose. Doc, come out of the trance. We need some wins, not many, but enough to stop embarassing yourselves.
My response to Woj:
Sorry Adrian, but you’re way off base about the Celtics tanking. The Cs were leading their Division when Paul Pierce went out. Then Wally couldn’t come back. Then Tony Allen, after a string of 20ppg games, blew out his knee. Perkins hasn’t been healthy for two months. Then they lost Delonte West. Never mind Theo Ratliff not being able to play at all.
Simply put, the Celtics aren’t tanking. But they are on the Titanic. No NBA – not the Pistons, Heat, Mavs or even the mighty Suns, could withstand the loss of 4 of their top 5 players (or arguably, 5 of their top 6). And that’s what the Cs have endured. Exactly who are they supposed to play?
As far as making a trade, Tony Allen was looking like a great trade piece. Now he may never come back. Perk’s contract looked attractive until he couldn’t stay on the court. Wally may have been movable, but now you’d have to pay someone to take him. Theo’s contract won’t be attractive until next year. As it stands, the only two healthy attractive young Cs at this moment are Delonte West and Al Jefferson and they would be foolish to part with either of those players. A 2-for-1 or 3-for-1 deal looked very doable at the start of the year. Now Doc Rivers is having to practice with the team just to make up a 5 on 5 in team scrimmages!!!
They’re playing a JV team out there, most of whom would still be in College. Al Jefferson, who looks like he’s for real, would be a Junior. So would Telfair. Perkins would be a Senior. Green, a Soph. At times, the oldest person the Cs had starting was 2nd year player Ryan Gomes. Tanking? No. How about giving the young guys some credit. They simply don’t have the experience to win with a squad that’s so young that they should be playing Florida or Ohio State….not Phoenix or Washington.

Is anyone else sick of this waiting, developing the youth, hoping for a savior from the lottery game. Lets be realistic, we have not had a chance at # 17 since 1988. We have been waiting almost 20 years. We had some bad breaks, but so have other teams. We need to act now. Get Gasol or whatever it takes. Again, we are the laughing stock of the NBA. We tried this in ’97 with Duncan, There are no guarentees in the lottery. And if you get # 1 he could be a flop (Sam Bowie, Candy…)We have been looking to the future for almost 20 years. Iam up for trading everyone if it makes us a contender for the next year or two.Come on…

Wanting to win and having the savvy to get it done are two different things. Ainge simply has not made a good trade in his tenure. He would rather draft than win and in order to get his prized ping pong balls, has willingly entered the lottery twice now. Red would never, ever do that. DA’s plan will not work, we need to make a trade to improve.
Wanna blame youth and injuries? Well who decided to add 4 more rookies (ST, RR, LP, AR) to our 15 man roster this offseason knowing full well we were already too young? Now granted the injuries have been ubsurd, but something tells me Paul wouldn’t be sitting out the whole year if we were any good.
Oh yeah, and who gets to decide if Doc keeps his job? Uh-huh, same guy. I bet a lot of you praising Danny are also enraged with Doc’s performance.
To borrow a line from my CEO, “When tackling a large project, I see only excuses and results”.
Seems the excuses for Danny outnumber the wins he has gotten us by quite a bit around here.
Interesting article by Adrian Wojnarowski about Danny’s proclivity for tanking seasons. This year Danny has willing accomplices in Wyc and Doc. It’s a dirty shame!

It canâ€â"¢t get much worse than a unit of C – Candy PF – Scalz SF – Wally SF – Ray – PG – Telfair.
Not that would it make too much of a difference, but how can Scalz possibly be ahead of Powe in the rotation? Doc is still an idiot.

I’m a realist and if the Bulls are in contention for Gasol, than there is no “Get Gasol” possiblities for Ainge.
As for AI, clearly Billy King was intent on getting him out of the conference.
Now as for the draft day trade, that’s another story altogether.

That one has to be on the “all time worst Celtics lineup” list. And we’ve had some bad ones this year alone!

I still like the idea of a Doc and Danny backcourt, just for 1 game :D

The Celtics covered the spread!!! (that’s almost like a win – hey, I’ll take what I can get)
I didn’t see this game but can someone explain why Rondo and Ray fouled out, Telfair had 5 fouls and Jamal Tinsley had almost 30 points? I’m assuming these guys got torched by Mr. Tinsley all night and resorted to fouling him, and still let him score at will?
That’s a new low – making Tinsley look like an all star!

Time to euthanize Wally — he’s shooting so far below his career avg. it’s ridiculous…the only category that’s up is his turnovers. McHale may be a bad GM, but he screwed us with that deal.
Two questions for Doc: how does Scal get 20 minutes of run, and Powe get 3? And why is Perk still playing? He’s clearly struggling with his health — let him heal fully and give Kandi minutes. It can’t be worse.
