Report: C's Made Offer For Stromile
Griz president Jerry West disparaged any notion that a healthy and happy Swift can be had in a trade as has been rumored since coach Mike Fratello was fired. But the Grizzlies' unwillingness to part with Swift hasn't prevented teams such as Boston, Minnesota and Sacramento from making offers, however feeble, over the past two weeks.

Wow, i don’t think i have it in me to root for Stro’ Swift. Please don’t do this to me, Danny

How bad is his contract? I think he’s still got some potential in him. I’m pretty sure I’d trade Gomes and Telfair for him. Wait, do those numbers even work? I don’t feel like looking it up. But Stro is a definite upgrade over Olowokandi and/or Scalabrine. He runs the floor, blocks some shots, and is uber athletic. I agree that he’s not always regarded as the heartiest competitor on the floor. But he’s still an upgrade over what we got. Imagine him and Al Jefferson starting together! That’s exactly the type of player we need to pair with Al in order to complement what he does (and doesn’t do) well.
Again though, it comes down to his contract. If he has one of those Dalembert-esque contracts of like 10 million per year, then forget it. He aint worth that.
Didn’t Big Al and Perk totally own him when we just played the Grizz last??? I could see a package of T. Allen and Scabs and a 2nd rnd pick for him but thats about it, and i wouldn’t even really care to do that trade. He really hasn’t played well in like 2 years, though he did have tremendous upside once, and when he went to houston they were supposedly suppposed to be championship contenders….If Danny can’t get one swift i guess its gotta be another.
Swift could be an upgrade at forward, crashing the boards and covering Al’s back. Re his development, he’s had the bad luck to play in 2 1/2 court systems (Fratello, Van Gundy). Opps, wiat, Doc is a Fratello man, nevermind.
ps hard to see a winning trade formulae there.

“Wildblue said:
This guy is not an established veteran. He is a high draft choice who so far hasn’t panned out. Houston tried him and dumped him back to Memphis (if I recall correctly). He looks to me like a career Tony Battie. That’s not bad but don’t we already have a career Tony Battie in Perk?”
actually no because perk hasnt had a career yet which is the idea behind getting an experienced vet. stro has been in the league for 7 years. that in itself makes him an established veteran. you not liking the player(which is understable) doesnt make him any less of an established vet. and frankly next to 2 high school big man we could use a veteran, be it swift or someone else.

Does Ainge have any direction in persuing trades or does he just get a buzz in his ear that a players available and immediately start making offers?
“I hear the Bobcats just put Jake Voskhul on the block. Let’s make an offer!”
Despite what he says, Ainge has lost sight of whatever plan he had established. Hearing the C’s making offers like this makes them seem entirely reactionary to who teams are making available, rather than methodic.
This is frustrating…
swift would help celts, and would complement the skills of big al & perk. not sure if he is long term solution @ PF, but worth a look if the price was (low) right. telfair? or pkg w/ theo or wally and take back griz junk (cardinal).
but any deal for swift doesnt make celts a playoff team so why not wait, save all the trading chips, and see if DA can put together a bigger deal for allstar to help PP.
besides you may draft the next swift (or better) in ’07 draft with a pick in the 8-13 range…
anyway, it looks like an old rumor as swift playing better now fratello gone.
The way this site works; Even if we could get Wade or Duncan for Scal and Kandiman, some posters in here would object to that trade, calling both Duncand and Wade: “underachievers or overachievers”, “not enough character”, “not molded under the Celtic tradition,” “Not enough value for Veal and Kandiman”. Thats the way it has always been and thats the way it will always be. Funny. lol
Something like Telfair or Rondo paired with Wally for Stoudamire and Swift would work, contracts fit and I remember hearing some rumors about Stoudamire earlier. Would be a perfect fit, a veteran point guard and an athletic big man. Now I don’t beleive Memphis would ever have anything to do with this…but it’d be nice

According to some posters, Danny is a fool because:
1. Said poster doesn’t like Swift
2. Danny offered a “feeble” package for Swift
So if Danny offered Scal, Telfair for Stromile and a future first – he’s an idiot? Seriously, try to contain your visceral hatred for Ainge until he does something to complain about. If you want to complain about old moves, find a thread or start one about it.
Also making offers on players helps you guage the market. From pinging a guy like West he get’s a feel of what West is looking for, and can build up a better intuitive feel for what it will take to get various players. Unlike a stock – there is no NYSE with market makers letting a GM know exactly what a player can be moved for, pinging guys around the league for likely trade targets helps build up that understanding.
ugh. what is scary is being lumped together with sac-town and minny. the former being responsible for bringing in suspect players like abdul-rahim and artest and the latter responsible for somehow not having enough to offer for 35% of iverson. perhaps isiah and billy king want to get involved…
i rather have ely too.
btw, what happened to the timestamp for posts? i liked it.
My problem with trading for Swift is that, while he is an ‘established’ vet, all he has established is a reputation for a poor work ethic, and inconsistency. Not the kind of cat i want in the locker room with our young’uns. Now, if we had a veteran team, i could see rolling the dice – but with our group, i’d rather see someone like Perk(little talent, lot of drive), rather then Swift(lot of talent, little drive) Even if the on-the-court effect is the same, i worry about the off-the-court effect.

Swift is an athletic but underwhelming performer. It would be difficult for the Cs to match up with his $5m salary, since our whiz kid GM doesn’t have any mid-level contracts on his roster. The only way to trade for Swift would be to send Brian Scal and a rookie scale guy, and since the Griz is already paying mid level money to Brian Cardinal, they don’t have a need for Scal.

Let’s get this right!
Would we want Swift or Odgen? People working or lack of playing to get into the lottery and have a chance at Odgen is far better thing we do than trading for Swift
Think about Odgen and Jefferson paired together and Perkins coming off the bench to help.
No deal for Swift…..
Unless Gasol is added to the mix!
if the price is right we should do it, no question. Give em Delonte and Gomes and if need be a second rounder (we have 2). He is a huge upgrade over all of our bigs except Al, poor work ethic or not.

“Also, Swift is making 5,400,000 per year…. Wally for Swift works…but that’s about it”
How? Walley makes like 10 or 12 million a year. Unless the Celtics can really get something out of Swift no one else has, I can’t see a deal for him that is worth doing. No matter who you give up, you are stuck with a 6 million a year guy for three years who doesn’t produce comiserate with his salary.

Swift is not a difference maker. Changing the lineup just keeps in flux the analysis/conclusion of whether our young guys are good or not. Everyone likes Al and Gerald but most of us would have dumped T Allen for a cup of coffee a month ago. I’m for holding our nose and letting this collection of talent show what its got. You can’t tell yet. They are bad but is it the coach?…is it the players?…is it the youth of the players? All I know is it’s not me, I’m frustrated but I’ll keep watching
Swift certainly would be helpful in an uptempo mode. His style matches what we say we are to do which is to Run. He is tall atheletic and can Run the floor and sky. At 5 Mil we might have a hard time putting the pieces together to get him. We would probably start with a second round pick or two plus scalibrine, olwokandi and perhaps someone like West or Gomes. Memphis was trying to off load a few contracts and might still be on that path.

Trade trade trade. I’m convinced that the only reason Danny is bent on dumb trades is because he was bitter about his lack of value when traded to Sacremento. We got nothing for him and can’t seem to get anything with him. I’d rather have a healthy Lafrentz shooting for three than Theo and TO (Telfair)any day. Unfortunately, Pitino was right about Bird, Mchale, and Parish not walking through the door. Too bad he hadn’t named AINGE to that list ;D

If the offers were so poor that the beat writer was given the adjective “feeble”, it wouldn’t have had to be sometihng Memphis woudl even consider (in fact that characterization implies they didn’t consider any of the offers).
If Danny called The Logo and said, “hey, I’ll giev you Scalabrini and Olowokandi for Stro Swift, how about it?” and West hung up, wouldn’t that be the definition of a “feeble” offer?
Would any one really have a problem with offering those two guys for Swift, however inconsistent he is? I think we’re taking this a little too seriously…
