Boston coach Doc Rivers, however, was quick to pick out the newcomer’s weakness. He’s playing well, said Rivers. “He’s extremely physical but he’s more offensive-minded than defensive-minded. He’s going to have to reverse that. We need him to be a rebounder and defender. We’re not worried about our offense a whole bunch.”

Does anybody take Rivers seriously when he talks about defense? If Thibodeau isn’t allowed to implement a coherent NBA defense, I’d guess one would interpret Rivers’ diatribe as Batista had better learn to chase guards on the perimeter.
