Southeast Division Slogans

I love the slogans NBA teams use. So I'm analyzing the Southeast Division today and the Western Conference is on deck. And don't forget about my looks at the Atlantic Division and the Central Division.

Southeast Division

Atlanta Hawks

I know it is kind of a tradition to mock the Hawks for drafting Shelden Williams so high, passing on some of the elite point guard prospects of the last few years, allegedly refusing to consider an Amare Stoudemire trade, the ownership mess and on and on. But I for refuse to mock their slogan - "Highlight Factory." Why? Josh Smith. That's why. He might be my favorite non-Celtics player. Every now and then he'll put up 25 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists, 6 blocks and unfortunately 5 turnovers (3/28/07) or 28 points, 18 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks (4/6/07). In the words of GOB Bluth, "I mean COME ON!" Two more points on Smith:

  1. It is remarkable how often he blocks a shot and then somehow gets involved in the fast break on the other end.
  2. I think there should be a Tupac song playing as that top 10 runs.

Charlotte Bobcats

No slogan and that's a shame. Charlotte really needs to get Gerald Wallace out there. I wouldn't even be upset if the Bobcats stole "Highlight Factory." This squad is in my top five of teams I want to watch this season. It is like some sort of basketball experiment.

Miami Heat

No slogan. That's inexcusable. They have the stars. Let's move on. Actually let's enjoy my favorite Shaq quote, "I'm tired of hearing about money, money, money, money, money. I just want to play the game, drink Pepsi, wear Reebok." I feel better.

Orlando Magic

"The Time is Now. Be Bold. Be Blue." That sounds like an advertising campaign for some sort of Home and Garden TV show. I'm disappointed.

Washington Wizards

I'm pretty sure no team with Gilbert Arenas could go without some sort of marketing campaign. And the Wizards delivered with "Ready to Rule." I like it. Hopefully I can mock it by the end of the season. And for the record I'm a huge Caron Butler fan. People don't bash the Lakers enough for that atrocious Butler/Kwame Brown deal.
