Big Al Gets Big Pay Day

Good for Big Al:
MINNEAPOLIS -- Forward Al Jefferson and the Minnesota Timberwolves announced a multiyear contract extension on Wednesday night.

The 22-year-old Jefferson was acquired from Boston in a trade July 31.

The deal is supposedly $65M over 5, with $5M in incentives.

Assuming normal raises, that starts around $11M, which is fair money for both sides, IMO.

I think it is a steal for Minnesota, especially in light of Howard’s contract.

And I think that is more than Boston wanted to pay.

Good for Big Al! Good news for Minny and for McHale. As long as Big Al doesn’t revert to his previous bad habits (he doesn’t have Perk and Clifford Ray to keep him in line now), that’s a good contract for both parties. Hell, that’s pretty much the contract than the big guy on Cleveland’s holding out for, isn’t it?

didya see that [url=“http://www.canishoopus.com/blogs/wd/2007/10/31/definition-option”Gerald Green didn’t get his option picked up?[/url]

Green needs to show that he has a clue what it means to be an NBA player. Make him fight to prove that he deserves a contract; maybe that’ll be a good thing for him. He hasn’t show himself to be a player that’s terribly motivated to keep improving himself, if he’s got a little bit more uncertainty about his future come twelve months’ time – all the better.

Congratulations BigAl. It is refreshing to see common sense will out over greed. Heaven forbid, if he had a Tony Allen injury this year, while waiting for next year to resign for a mzx contract. Al signed against the wishes of his agent (according to reports). Hope you have a hall of fame career, BigAl.
