Fun with Early Season Stats
Good morning fellow fans of the best team in the league.
Take a look at some of the league stats this morning:
- The Celtics lead the league in point differential at +18.0 ppg (next closest is 11 ppg)
- The defense, which has been a focal point this season, is 3rd best giving up an average of 87.8 points per game, only 0.5 points away from the leader Detroit
- However, the defense is tops in the league on a FG % basis giving up a stingy 39.8% per game! (that's crazy)
- Oh and to compliment the defensive prowess, the offense ranks 7th in the league in points per game, but is the top shooting team, making 54.5% of their attempts (also crazy).
- On the glass, the Celtics have the third best rebounding differential per game - thanks to KG who leads the league in boards per game.
- The PGA tour is among the top 20 in ppg.
- Ray Allen is 2nd in the NBA in FG % at 63% - which is unbelievable for a perimeter player. And KG isn't that far behind at 6th.
- Rondo is 2nd only to AI in steals per game.
- While Garnett leads the team in assists per game, as a group the Celtics are 2nd in the league in team assists.

the stats are even more fun when you adjust for pace: 1st in defensive efficiency, 2nd in offensive!

It’s so funny – before reading this post, the first thing I did this mornign was look at the league team stats. I was surprised to see the Celtics at the top of just about every category. This is such a different feeling for me. I became a Cs fan in Bird’s waning years. Yet, basketball is my favorite sport. I’ve never known what it felt like to follow a dominant Celtics team. I really don’t know what to do with myself.
Not really an important stat, but an interesting one nonetheless:
According to ESPN (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/gameleaders), KG has recorded 3 of the top 15 games by a single player in the league thus far.
