Media Darlings

In case you missed it (or in case you start your day here at CelticsBlog - a decision I fully support), the Celtics are plastered all over the ESPN front page.  There's a picture of KG, Pierce, and Rondo.  There's Steve Levy talking C's on that little video feed on the right.  Below is a link to the highlights from last night's game.  There is a link to Tim Legler breaking down the C's. There is a Chad Ford podcast, a Hollinger Insider article, an absurd comparison to the 95-96 Bulls, and of course they are front and center on the Daily Dime. And all of that is just on ESPN.  Wait till the rest of the media catches up.

The Bulls thing is great. I actually had the idea last week to do a player comparison against the 95/96 Bulls to see how this team stacks up, guess I’m not the only one thinking that way.

Please don’t wake me! I have not had dreams like this in more years than I care to count. But when I do wake I will start my day here at CelticsBlog.

I’m enjoying all the coverage. It is deserved, but let’s not get carried away. Remember the 20-game rule.

Jeff. This has been my homepage for a couple of months…. Can’t think of a better way to start a day than to read about our beloved Celts!

The Bulls thing is ESPN’s way of laughing at the Celtics when they don’t meet those crazy expectations. Believe me, I’m enjoying this fast start, but the team is only 6-0, and we still haven’t played the best the league has to offer. If the team is 36-5 halfway through the season, then you can bring up the Bulls. But for now, let’s just be happy that the team is taking care of business against every team they’ve played so far.

I keep savoring the thought that a year ago, Celtic fans were being repeatedly told by league experts that we overvalued our younger players, and they couldn’t be traded for a prominent player. Well, somehow everyone was wrong (certainly, I was). We did overvalue our kids, but Ainge was still able to trade them, and not for somebody else’s headache, but for two solid-citizen all-stars. Life can be good.

Talking about media stuff, what’s with all these player post game press conferences. We didn’t have them last year. Are they only when TNT or ESPN does the games? To me it is too much to ask the players to do this. These guys are exhausted after the game, you can just see it in their faces. I’m amazed they can keep their cool after answering the same questions over and over.

Why the heck not compare to the Bulls. I hate the media trying to find every excuse as to why the Celtics are “not there yet”. As CelticsWhat35 said, I really feel like the Media is setting up the Celtics up for the loses to come and say “I told you so”. I hope the C’s play with a chip on their shoulders all season. I’d like to compare this team to the 95-96 Bulls, I’d like to know why no one asked “What if one of their superstars gets injured?”, “Bench Depth is vital, who do they have?”, “Age is going to be an issue” All these questions could have applied to the ’96 Bulls. So go ahead, Compare these Celtics to that team. Challenge them and see what you get. Make us do push ups between free throws.

Legs drives me crazy sometimes. Between saying KG didn’t deserve a spot on the all star team and now saying KG changed his number because he wanted a new identity on the Celtics… or maybe, as published, because #21 was retired?

I don’t like the comparisons to the Bulls. Waaaay too early for that.
