Doc rivers is quickly going from the worst coach in the league to the best. Funny how KG, Ray
Allen and co can do that to a coach.
Rondo hitting open jumpers and Perk hitting free throws make this a very, very dangerous team. Doc really didn’t need to bring back KG in the 4th (and I worry about injuries), but maybe KG is less stressed on the floor.
I disagree. I still think he’s a terrible strategic coach.

It’s still time to breathe deep and enjoy; what a joy to root for a team that not only can win, but one that should win!
Though they are largely new to us, “our” team is winning, our team is playing defense, guys are showing up. I have been holding my breath through the first few games, not quite ready to believe it could really shake out this way. I can’t believe this giddy feeling after the numbness of the last few years.

the REAL reason opponents are shooting so poorly and our defense looks so good—is because the other teams are worn out trying to guard our guys…The Nets were finished halfway through the third tonight—even J.Kidd was exhausted and turning the ball over.

it was good d again. posey is a real pro and a great late pickup by danny. rondo was all over the floor. no hops for tony but he stuck it out in a tough situation for him. we might be needing that backup pg some day- not necessarily now, but by playoff time. kidd is a true hall of famer and the tv boys made a salient comment that richard jefferson looks like pp did when pp had to carry the c’s- toomuch of a burden.
I’m hoping that Doc realizes that at home, if nowhere else, the fans will give the guys off the bench a lot more energy. I think if he can incorporate enough of these guys into the lineup that everyone will know their roles. I was pumped to see so many guys contribute tonight. Friday night should be more of the same.
Seeing Tony keep driving, even though it’s obvious he’s struggling, was great to see. I think Pruitt could give more off the bench in terms of playing point than TA does, but TA was decent enough.
This feeling is so foreign to me when watching the Celtics, but the feeling itself is not foreign. I am adopting the same mentality watching the Celtics now as I do when I watch the Patiots. It feels eerily similar. And you know what, the way the players and Doc are talking is very similar to the way the patriots talk. great stuff.
Tony can’t jump but he stills moves laterally pretty well. He was all over Kidd and made a big difference with his defense. Kidd got tired trying to get free of Tony. Tony’s not finishing his shots because he still shoots like he’s two feet off the ground when it’s more like 9 inches. If he can adjust, and please make his free throws, he’ll still help the team a lot. If he could fully recover by January like last year — if we’re only so lucky — this team will be so nicely stacked. Sometimes his decision-making is really off but his courage to come back is recognized even by the opposing players. When he’s on, he has unique talents and I really hope he makes it.
I agree that Tony Allen may well wind up being the team’s most valuable bench player by mid-season if he can regain the explosiveness that was lost to surgery. At least it would be a toss-up between TA and Posey. Before Allen got hurt last year, he was starting to come into his own as a very good NBA player. His ability to get to the rim (and hopefully finish more often) is so valuable in terms of getting space for his spot-up teammates and drawing fouls. He has terrific instincts on defense as well.
As an added bonus, the more Tony Allen plays the less we’ll see of Scalabrine.

I’m one that believes good things come out of bad. Tony Allen——before his injuries he depended on his athleticism. Temporarily without that athleticism I actually think he’s becoming a better player. Instead of those high flying trips to the bucket he had a few Ray Allen-type layups last nite. He also seems to be looking for other things to do to help the team instead of being one dimensional. He may also be playing smarter defense, not depending on his athleticism to make steals. On another note, in a post-game interview last nite Rondo explained that Doc had told him, during half-time, to stay in front of Kidd and not keep poking at the ball trying to steal it. Rondo did this in the second half and his defense was much more solid. Rondo and Allen really beat up on Kidd, something we haven’t seen before.

I don’t think Scals played that badly last nite and I’m not sure I want to see less of him. He’s an excellent defender, using intelligence instead of athleticism, to do the job. He just knows what to do and where to be. I also think his shooting will improve once he gets more comfortable with this new situation. Scals was one of the reasons we won last nite. Forget his stats, look at what he stops opponents from doing. Same could be said for Perk. There should be a stat on how many points those guys prevent from being scored during a game.
TrueGreen,
I think it’s just in vogue to pick on Scal and make statements about how terrible he is. If he was half as bad as most fans make him out to be he wouldn’t be in the NBA. I, for one, agree with you that Scal is a far better player and a very valuable player in terms of things he does that never show on a stat sheet.
