How about Ray misses 2 game winning FTs. Cavs get mucho help from refs.

I can’t stand the Cavs.

Can’t win them all.

I’m still waiting for a win against a good team (or even a mediocre team) on the road.

by Brickowski on Nov 27, 2007 9:59 PM EST reply actions

Pierce got absolutely dominated tonight, couldn’t stop James, and couldn’t do a thing on him, he was scared to dribble, to shoot, you name it. His passive game was down to lack of courage. He was scared to be agressive, rarely drove the ball, his feet were cement all night.

Gutless performance by P2.

Teams are getting up for the C’s Better be prepared for this type of effort all season from the opposition. Still think we need another scorer/playmaker off the bench (frontline or PG doesn’t matter). Big Baby may be one day but he’s not ready yet, Posey is streaky, and House may not be enough. I think if Tony Allen is healthy a frontcourt scorer off the bench might make more sense. Is it me or does Powe look like the odd man out? Getting waived or traded by mid-season?

by Hillcrestwildcat on Nov 27, 2007 10:01 PM EST reply actions

Ray Allen is the last player I would have expected to choke at the line. Ouch. Blame for this loss can certainly be spread around.

by Roy_Hobbs on Nov 27, 2007 10:01 PM EST reply actions

Cavs big men do a great job of closing space and they shut down the lane. Made it tough especially for KG and Pierce.

I’d like to see Glen Davis start to get more time. I think our vets and bench players are all pretty settled right now. They’ll be able to work around his rookie mistakes and put in positions where he can succeed.

we’ll kick em where it counts when it counts.

Could this team have done a better job at handing the game to the Cavs? Seriously, watching the horrible decision making, the terrible coaching, and the abysmal free throw shooting down the stretch and into overtime by a team that’s considered a “contender” was embarrassing.

It’s gonna be funny watching this team lose in the 2nd round of the playoffs.

by ucn33 on Nov 27, 2007 10:07 PM EST reply actions

I agree, Hobbs. No one played well in crunch time. Stupid shots by Rondo (3 points, 1-9, 43 minutes), Allen’s free throws, Pierce’s missed threes, Kevin only got 5 rebounds, Perk’s missed free throws, Doc keeping Rondo in there…. Our bench outplayed our starters.

by silvershamrocker on Nov 27, 2007 10:09 PM EST reply actions

it’s only 1 game…. we’ll get them on Sunday!!!

The win at Toronto doesn’t count? That also seems a bit strong as the 2 losses have been in OT and by 2 points….

by Green17 on Nov 27, 2007 10:19 PM EST reply actions

kudos to the Cavs frontline, Big Z and Gooden dominated Perk and KG. Was a little surprised that the Celts weren’t more up for this one, seeing that the Cavs were the east conf champs last year. But hey even with a lackluster performance, we were still in position to win.

by flexilexi on Nov 27, 2007 10:25 PM EST reply actions

we kept ourselves in another game where we were outplayed. we couldnot close this game out and several players stank. the bench was not too shabby. he still is playing ray way too many mins. pp has lebronitis. and i hate the 1 on 1 isos by both teams. rr made some bad shots but the kid stole some mean rebounds something that wasn’t happening elsewhere. with lebron cleveland can control the game.

by nazzbo on Nov 27, 2007 10:40 PM EST reply actions

Celtics had control of the game at the end of reg. and missed the freethrows. If Cleveland had so much ‘control’ they would have won in regulation.

Celtics had a bad game and still had a chance to win.

Powe does seem like the odd man out, but I don’t think this should be the case. His length and toughness could have really helped tonight against Gooden & Ilgauskas.

by IdahoGreen on Nov 27, 2007 11:22 PM EST reply actions

NoraG1 has it right. I remember the days when the Celts rarely lost, when they sleptwalk through some games and still won most of them. That was when a loss was a genuine shock. Despite tonight’s loss and the flaws we’ve seen thus far, that air of superiority is slowly creeping back. Oh happy holidays, finally we EXPECT our Celtics to win!

by Thruthelookingglass on Nov 27, 2007 11:29 PM EST reply actions

The C’s played well overall, but bricked a ton of shots. The LeBrons played well enough to win and Gooden played well over his head. You’ll see that maybe 3 times a season.

Rondo didn’t play well against the likes of Boobie Gibson & Devin Brown. Not good. He passed up a ton of open jumpers, only to shoot longer, contested jumpers. Poor decisions on his part.

Still, Ray hits those 2 FT’s and they go home happy. Can’t blame this on the refs. C’s needed to close out the game and they didn’t.

if Doc doesn’t figure out how to use the bench,we’ll be .500 soon.

It’s amazing the negativity around here after losses. It sucks and it stinks and it sucks. ;D

If we win Friday in Miami which will be a tough game and then obviously beat the Knicks and Cavs at home, that will make us 14-2 and people will forget about this one. I say they win by 20 on Sunday in Boston…

by tb727 on Nov 28, 2007 12:37 AM EST reply actions

i suppose the good news is that it took overtime and a big effort from the best player in the game for the defending eastern conference to beat our boys on their turf—and on a night in which our boys were not sharp. the bottom line is that we could have easily won this game—despite the fact that cleveland wanted it more and was playing at home.

I have not blogged in about a year but I keep tabs on the site. Loved the trade, still like Jefferson and am a fan. However, Rajon Rando I was a fan of. After tonights loss to the Cavs we either need a veteran quick or we will not make into the second round. I think Allen actually is the best of the big three as of right now any way. Oh, Docs gone by the trade deadline. Rajon Rando had only three points,,,had he had more we may have won the game. Pierce played 45 min that’s a lot.

by richardlight86 on Nov 28, 2007 1:35 AM EST reply actions

Celts looked very tired at the end of the game. Blame Doc for that and give him partial blame for Allen’s misses. Rondo was off all night — House should have played a lot more. No one was cutting when Garnett got doubled down low in the fourth quarter. Lots of standing around. We really need a solid rotation that gives the slightly smaller 3 more rest. Thibodeau must have been pulling his hair out with the decisions Doc was making…

by greenkite71 on Nov 28, 2007 4:47 AM EST reply actions

if we had beaten Cleveland some people could have said that we still haven’t beaten any good teams on the road because they would “only” be 8-7

we beat Toronto, Jersey, and Indy on the road, all good teams that have beaten other good teams

the Celtics aren’t perfect anymore, boo hoo, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t one of the best in the league

by Jeff Clark on Nov 28, 2007 6:27 AM EST reply actions

Our shots weren’t going in,. and Gooden was on fire. I think Pierce did a good job defensively. Big Baby was immense. He was the only one keeping Z off of the block.

People are getting and studying film on us. They are starting to understand our tendencies. We just have to keep on getting better. It’s a long season.

by johnnymost on Nov 28, 2007 8:04 AM EST reply actions

I’ll say it one more time – the biggest problem facing the C’s is point guard play. Rondo is not very good in comparison to other points around the league and likely would be a back-up on most teams. There is very little dribble penetration from him which clogs up the offense, especially when your dibble/penetrator doesn’t shoot well.

Tis is the area that Ainge needs to shore up and is why you see Eddie House coming into games late in the 4th quarter. Yes, Rondo is only in his second year, but if the team wants to win now they need some help at the point.

I can’t believe Doc “psyched” out Perk before his free throws.

What’s up Doc?
