Celtics Short on Big Guys
Scott Souza is reporting that Perk and Pollard both sat out practice today. Pollard woke up with back pain and Perk sat out with a sore foot. Doc said that it is Perk's big toe that is bothering him and that there is a good chance that the Celtics will be without both Perk and Pollard for tomorrow night's game against the Kings.
If Perkins cannot go, Kevin Garnett will switch over to center and Glen Davis may well get his first career start at power foward. Brian Scalabrine would appear the other top option as Rivers would seemingly like to keep Posey coming off the bench to back up both frontcourt positions.
"We will go small - we have no choice," Rivers said. "When you play a team like Sacramento you don’t want to go small. … Baby right now is probably a better fit, but right now I don’t know (who will start)."

Don’t need any of those guys above. They just get in the way of the development of BBD and Leon. Time to let the young guys bang and bang and bang. Scal also plays good D although not a glass cleaner by any stretch of imagination. Brad Miller is a good pro who would get his points and rebounds off Perk and Pollard too.
I hope Perk is well enough to go, but if not, this will be a good challenge for the team to overcome and gain some confidence in the bench guys.
It will also be a big challenge for Doc. Sounds like most people’s confidence is booming about him. ;)

The Kings don’t really worry me. Mikki Moore and Brad Miller aren’t the most dominating big guys out there… I think KG and BBD can handle them. I think KG will have to play a lot of minutes in the first 3 and a half quarters until the game is out of reach. I just hope Ray finds his shot soon so that these games will turn into blowouts a lot quicker.
I heard on the radio that Perk was moving/fixing his bed and dropped the headboard on his foot. Sounds like a Pervis Ellison injury to me. But I do worry that his foot is more that “sore.” Dropping heavy objects on your feet is a great way to break a toe!

What’s Doc talking about?
Sacramento have horrible big men.
Mikki Moore can do nothing unless a shot is created for him by a guard. Brad Miller stands 20 feet from the hoop and might be slower than Chris Webber. Kenny Thomas is Leon Powe with more useless weight around waist (and I don’t like Leon Powe). Spencer Hawes is their biggest threat down there and he plays 10 minutes.
Mikki Moore is the only one that can claim to be an average defensive player. The rest are terrible defensively.
I hope Mikki Moore checks Glen Davis because BBD will just abuse him on the boards.
Doe anyone seriously think we can challenge the Spurs?

KG won’t be able to roam as much with BBD in the linup in place of Perk. Long term, this won’t work.

No big deal, Perk only plays 20 minutes a game anyways…. more minutes for Baby. I think Baby can handle about 30 minutes.

I think if Perk can improve a little bit and if Scot Pollard is healthy enough to give 5-10 minutes on Duncan, then yes.
If Perk gets in early foul trouble and Pollard is out, then no. KG is able to defend Duncan in stretches, but in the long run Duncan is too big and asking KG to stay on him down low eliminates a lot of Garnett’s effectiveness in disrupting the lanes and challenging the pick and roll.
Yeah, KG and Baby isn’t the ideal pairing, but it’s still a good sign that Doc’s even considering Baby in this situation. Also, I was actually relieved when it turned out Perk’s foot trouble was with his toe—and even better after a bit of an accident—rather than a recurrence of something structural such as the plantar fasciitis. A little more time for the Babe et al won’t hurt, and Sacramento isn’t really a bad team for this at all.
Well deserved time for Powe? There’s a reason the only player on the team with a negative /- is Leon, he’s not very good. And not really deserving of more time.

The Kings suck, and I don’t think Perk was gonna be the reason we would beat them. This should be fun if Big Baby gets like 30 minutes. The guy is just a ball of energy out there! I still have no idea how he lasted till the second round. I think he is playing better than many of the first round picks (cough Joakim Noah *cough*). Who knew we would get such production out of the guy.
Agree about Ray – when he finally finds his shot, the blowouts are just gonna be that much worse. Also, I am looking forward to seeing Rondo guard Tony Parker and Posey/Tony Allen come in off the bench and shut down Ginobili with some hard fouls.
You know who used to give some hard fouls was Wally. Hey it’s easier than playing defense. That was about the most productive thing he did for us.
