Gerald Green's Future?
The Rake on Gerald Green (hat tip TrueHoop)
During a Wolves' timeout in the second quarter, Gerald Green spent the entire time well removed from the circular huddle, where, you know, he might glean some information that would improve on his reputation for not knowing where to go in the offensive and defensive sets. Instead Green was conversing with the injured Ratliff near the end of the bench. Twelve seconds after play resumed, Gomes picked up his third foul and with McCants also saddled with three, Sichting sent Green into the game. Thirty eight seconds after that, Green receives a pass just over center court from McCants for his first touch. Kobe and Lakers' rookie Jarvis Crittenton immediately sneak up behind Green and knock the ball from his grasp, resulting in a ruthlessly gorgeous, but rather embarrassing to Green, breakaway slam by Kobe. Two or three years from now, Gerald Green will be back in his old neighborhood, alternately bragging about his NBA career and complaining how he got screwed because nobody gave him a chance to play.

Thanks for Garnett and for taking the pouting GERALD! off our hands. I hope the kide snaps out of it, but let him do it in someone else’s uniform.

I wonder if he’ll be too confused to even score a job working on the And-1 circuit? :o

I’m glad Gerald green is gone… he was pretty immature and selfish

I have to admit I thought through the summer that we traded away two future stars – Al and Gerald. That’s why I have my day job. I’ve been wondering how come he doesn’t play for a team so weak. Gomes also was putting up better numbers last year for the C’s I think. And, Ratliff is back on the shelf. At least Telfair seems to have turned the needle back upwards.
McHale stil has 2 1st round draft picks but it really looks like Danny outpointed him on this one.
This excerpt makes Green out to be an idiot, which wasn’t a surprise to me. But if you read the entire column by Britt Robson, it further describes the incompetence of Gomes, Jefferson, Ratliff, and Antoine Walker. You begin to wonder if Doc might not have been a lot better smarter coach than any of us ever thought.
This just proves that force-feeding you minutes doesn’t make you a player, contrary to popular opinion. Gerald averaged 22 per contest last season, and apparently got nothing from it. Consequently, on a TWolves squad which is packed with youngsters which seem to handle the NBA better, he sits. I sure haven’t seen many TWolves fans complaining :)
Being a potential T-Mac doesn’t do much good if the chance of this happening is, like, 1%.
You won’t be able to fully assess Jefferson until McHale puts a team with some vets around him (or waits a few years for everyone to mature). Of course, put Michael Beasley aside Big Al next year and that team will make some noise a lot sooner.

I wonder where gerald will be one year from now…with anyone?
it’s also interesting to see the Twolves lose games exactly like the C’s did last year which means even though those former celtics are a year older they are still not winning any games… you have to wonder if the celtics had kept all those guys in a full blown youth movement, it might have been disaterous with the exception of Al maybe
Gerald’s just not very intelligent, basketball included. This comes as no surprise to me, and shouldn’t to anyone who understands basketball. He was relentlessly and needlessly romanticized by the lovers of the youth movement. Thank God he’s gone.

Big_Easy – these Euros start playing professionally at a very young age, and no one is screaming that the Euro kids need college. G$ isn’t very good. Getting “taught” the game of basketball at some sham university wouldn’t change that.

Gerald Green— good kid, extremely athletic, just not too bright.

Gerald Green has always been fools gold. If you are looking for a good reason why Stern enacted that rule to force prospective athletes to attend one year of college before making the jump, Gerald Green would be an applicable poster child. Anyone with any basketball IQ knows a fake from one of substance. Beyond his flashy dunks and smooooth jumpshot, there is really very little substance in his game. In fact, I’d contend that he won’t be in the league after this rookie deal runs out, with the exception of a possible 15th man role or two in his foreseeable future beyond that point. But hey, just two years ago most of you were wondering why he wasn’t taken in the lottery. Need any more evidence?

Sad,,,, sad to know many of you in here did not want to part with Gerald Green at the time… everyone’s thinking was that he could have been another Kobe…….“" Could have been "”"
I think going to Minnesota was a mistake. He simply is with the wrong team. What Gerald needs is to be on a team with Veterans…. Veterans who will ream his behind and get him to play his game….
I think of Gerald I think of a kid getting the wrong advice……ala the women’s golfer Wie….
For Geralds sake, he needs a change of scenery!
I have zero interest in ever seeing Gerald Green in Green again.

Look he’s a high school kid who never learned much defense.
Who’s talking about defense here? For all his time in Boston, he couldn’t learn the playbook for his position.
Reportedly, he had academic issues in high-school. In high-school! Last time I checked, this is not rocket science, and is compulsory in most countries around the globe. I am sure that Gerald was surprised to find out that aside from running, jumping, and tossing the ball in the hoop, basketball tends to require a lot of thinking and theoretical preparation. Tough.
Gerald didn’t work hard enough on his ballhandling and is purely a jumpshooter. He’s a one dimensional player, which would be okay if he could drain threes like Steve Kerr or Dale Ellis, but he can’t. He’s athletic, but not dynamic.

Iowaplowboy, I couldn’t tell if you, as something less than a wildly enthusiastic Doc supporter, are saying you can’t grant the possibility that Doc’s better than you once thought – or that you were simply laughing at the way some of my not so goodest grammar spilled out.

;D ;D The correct answer would be “A”.
Excellent point, Wahz
