We Have An NBA Blogger
Please help me welcome the newest Author to CelticsBlog, Steve Weinman. Steve was formerly the lead author of the blog The NBA Source over on MVN. He will be blogging regularly for our NBA section, so please check it out as we might not have room on this front page for all the stuff that will be going up there. Steve seems like a perfect fit because he's already been covering the NBA and he happens to be a big Celtics fan! Welcome aboard Steve.
See Steve's first article on Anderson Varejao here and don't forget to check the NBA page often for updates and news around the league.
Update: He's already got another article up - previewing tonight's games. He's getting off to a good start.

Steve has a great knack for picking up the right stories at the right time. That combined with his knowledge of the game and the league should make for some great reading. I think he’ll fit right in around here. Between Jeff, IP, Steve and our other NBA blogging friends, our NBA Blog is getting plumb phat.
I’m looking forward to your contributions Steve. ;)
Great pick-up Jeff.
I’ve been a fan of Steve’s for a long while. Excellent writing on a daily basis. Every blogger knows how hard that is to do.
Congrats, Steve! You have a bigger platform here, and a great group of knowledgeable Celtic fans. BTW..they’ll let you know if they think you’re wrong. lol. But that’s good, too.
It’s a good board.
It couldn’t happen to a better guy.
Celticsblog just got even better.
Warning: Just don’t follow Steve’s betting advice, everyone.
Another good reason to check this board.
peace,

this argument is extremely counterintuitive. What difference does it make whether the Cavaliers would have won more games with the Wild Thing on their roster over the first 20 games or not. The schedule itself has more to do with the arguments you make than any real critical thinking about Anderson’s contribution.
The real conversation here should be whether or not he makes them a better team for the next 62 games plus the playoffs. It is not a logical assumption that just because they would have roughly the same record with him through 20 games that they would be just as well off for the next 62.
When you say that this team should show no improvement from last season because of the improvements in the East this is simply not true. Roster turnover is not necessary for improvement.
LeBron James has played better when healthy this season than last in terms of total production. Daniel Gibson is also vastly improved and will continue to do so.
Also, the Cavs have absolutely no depth inside without Anderson. I do not see how his presence will take minutes away from Gooden or Z. Combined, there are 96 minutes to be played at the 4 and the 5. Right now, Gooden and Z are combining to play 68 minutes a game. A little math here will tell you that leaves exactly 28 minutes for Anderson, which will not cut into the playing time of either starting big man. His return will cut into the playing time of Ira Newble and Dwayne Jones. That is a good thing. Without him the Cavs have been forced to play Gooden at center and Marshall at the four for long stretches, which makes it impossible for them to matchup defensively.
Adding Anderson to this roster certianly does not hurt it. His presence also allows the Cavaliers to revisit earlier trade talks that would send Drew Gooden out of town for a PG b/c Anderson gives them depth on the interior.

Ray Allen’s shooting percentage has been pretty bad of late.
