February Schedule
The Daily Dime pointed out that the schedule doesn't get any easier for the Celtics in February. I've added the current winning percentages for each team.
Fri 2: LA Clippers - .511 - won 7 of last 10
Tue 6: at Detroit - .591 - best in the East (with Wiz losing Jamison)
Wed 7: Miami - .444 - but Shaq is back
Fri 9: New Jersey - .478
Sun 11: at Minnesota - .489
Wed 14: Milwaukee - .391
Tue 20: at Sacramento - .409 - start of road trip
Wed 21: at Phoenix - .800!!!
Fri 23: at LA Lakers - .609
Sat 24: at Utah - .638
Mon 26: at Houston - .644 - end of road trip
Wed 28: New York - .417
That 5 game road trip includes two back to back sets (4 games in 5 nights). There will also be the fun distraction of the trade deadline smack in the middle of that road trip (Feb 22).
I think Gerald better win the Slam Dunk competition, because there might not be too many other wins to look forward to for a long time.

Speaking of Gerald in the dunk contest…. do we know if he made it yet? if not when do we find out?

I see us losing 18-19 in a row with our best chances to win coming against Milwakee and Sacramento but if we lose those games I don’t think we will be winning until we see the Knicks. Unfortunately by the time we see NY we could be on a 24 game losing streak which would be absurd. I hope and pray that it does not get that far.

Jeff, the Bulls are the best team in the East, not the freaking Pistons :P

Let’s just face facts….
This team is going to end up with the 1-4 picks in the draft….and at this point there is nothing wrong with that.
What we should be focusing on is
1.) What happens after the season ends to this team
2.) Does Doc return
3.) What trades are made
4.) Have the young guys developed where we feel comfortable going into next year with them
5.) Do we have to make the playoffs next year for this team to feel that they accomplished something
6.) What Veteran presence does this team need…. a point guard or a big man?
Just for fun….
I was messing around with ESPN’s trader and came up with a scenerio that works
Boston trades with San Antonio Spurs
Boston gets:
Brent Barry (2 years remaining at $5m)
Eric Williams (1 year remaining at $4.3m)
San Antonio gets:
Wally Szczerbiak (3 years $11m)
2 2nd rounds picks
San Antonio gets help off the bench and a scorer they’ve been looking for, the Celtics get Eric Williams contract off the books and Brent Barry for 2 years.
Hey, everyone better watch ESPN right now – this may be the only chance you have to see a Rivers family win in the near future. Georgetown is crushing St. Johns and Rivers’ son plays for Georgetown.

Wally will be fine as a 3rd or 4th option. When you start designing plays for Wally (like at the end of the 1st half) is when you get into trouble. Once healthy he will be able to shoot but trying to take people off the dribble, I’d say those days are gone.
On a scale of 1 – 10 isn’t fair. At some point you have to look at the coach and ask why is he trying to isolate Wally on the perimeter.
He’s a shooter not a slasher, not a play maker, a shooter, behind screens, receiving the ball when someone drives and kicks back out, he’s a shooter like Scot Wedman.
Someone just needs to tell Doc.
Unless your tanking, then everything’s good.
Brent Barry is more valauble than Wally. Who’d make that trade. Wally is with us to the end, unless we take back a gangster, or a worse contract, or give up a valued youngster.
This season’s over, and unless they can start winning once PP gets back, and show something, it’ll be open house on remodeling this team. They could easily lose the next 6 games until Pierce gets back. That’ll make them 12-39. With 31 games left after the all star game, if they can’t win 15 of them, everyone including PP should be available. And there’s no way Doc will be back next season. No matter whose fault it is, this team needs another voice.
Maybe we will lose 20 in a row for Oden number

Most consecutive losses in one season is 23. If we break that record it would be a shame, but in the end it doesnt really matter.
The only people who look for that stat are fans whose teams are crash diving and have no hope.
That is not us, we have hope and are building a core of future players for the long run back to the top.
I see you guys have picked up on my last couple of posts about February…Hah!…The question is: What is the NBA record???
…an aside might be, if Pierce gets back and we start going .500 ball, he should be MVP…I’m only half joking, half delirious…

5 out of the 12 games are winnable: LAC, NJ, Mil, Sac and NY. But probably not by a Rivers-coached team without Pierce and Tony Allen.
If they keep the streak alive, the loss at Houston on the 26th will set a new NBA record for consecutive losses.
I’m sure that both Ainge and Grousbeck will be on the radio the next day saying how happy they are with Rivers.
Even though losing so many games in a row is painful, you have to be mindful of the fact that besides temporary embarrassment, none of this really makes any difference for next season. By October we’ll all be upbeat and positive again, thinking, “hey, they could make the playoffs, the East is wide open,” or “Jeez, drafting a superior talent like Durant/Oden makes me realize how much we overrated the guys we had on our roster before! So this is what a real blue-chip prospect is like. I haven’t felt this way since Pierce in 98 or those few games we had Joe Johnson.”
Those of us who always said they should be tanking have to grin and bear it now that they are, and remember that this 20-win season actually isn’t the crisis it’s being made out to be. A 30-win season, now that would be a disaster.

we need someone to do a projection for the rest of the season going game by game. Hooray for a tough schedule. I know that the easy part of our schedule was back in November so presumably the 2nd half is harder. The key will be the games in March and April when other teams don’t have anything to play for either because their playoff position is set or they are out of the playoffs. Remember minnesota last year.? That’s when it will truly get ugly. I fear that the celts will win a disproportinoate share of those games ( remember beating miami?). We have to win some games so that this team has some confidence going into next year. We just need to let nature take its course.
In response to Ancient Red’s question about what vet presence this team needs, I’d say a PG, simply because there’s several quality bigs in this year’s draft, and no PGs. We can plug the “big man” hole via the draft. So I say look to get Dre Miller, Bibby or someone like that, if possible.
I agree 1000% with Red2 that, once March comes, all the crappy teams will be tanking like crazy. Their illusions will be over, and they’ll be making Minny last year look like amateur tankers, given the pot of gold at the end of this year’s lottery rainbow, compared with last year’s pot of bronze. That’s what worries me about (1) Pierce’s return, and (2) DA and Nurse’s attitude. I can easily see us winning a bunch of meaningless games and playing ourselves into the 8-12 draft range. Yuck!

I have a hard time believing they could beat the Florida Gators

As the draft approached last season, we were wondering what DA what parts DA was going to add to this young team to help them reach the next level. Instead, he went on a cost-cutting spree and passed on real help (Foye or Roy) through the draft. I’m really losing faith in this organization’s ability to build a winning franchise.
If Wyc becomes the Donald Sterling of the East, that makes DA the next Elgin Baylor. You know Elgin, the “veteran of the lottery process”!! Heaven help us all.

The Cs weren’t exactly setting the world on fire when Pierce was healthy. But his presence could win enough to cost the franchise a 1-4
pick and that wouldn’t be that helpful. If you are going to tank you should do it right and get the most ping pong balls.
