Friends, Romans, Countrymen, Lend Me Your Team

Next fall, the team will open Training Camp overseas.  Details at Celtics.com

LAS VEGAS - The Celtics will join the Minnesota Timberwovles, Toronto Raptors and Memphis Grizzlies this fall in the second year of NBA Europe Live, staging their training camp in Rome, Italy from October 1-5 and NBA Commissioner David Stern announced that the four teams will play six exhibition games in six European cities in four countries.

The Celtics will play their first game of the 2007-08 preseason against the Toronto Raptors in Rome at the PalaLottomatica on October 6, 2007. The Celtics will then travel to London, England to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves at the O2, London's new state of the art NBA-style arena on October 10, 2007.

The Celtics last appeared in Europe during the 1988-89 preseason when they played two games in Madrid, Spain in the McDonald's Classic. The Celtics beat the Yugoslavian National Team on October 21, 1988 and defeated Real Madrid on October 23, 1988.

It’s weird that the C’s aren’t playing any games against Euro teams, I guess those teams want to face better NBA competition.

that bandit Wyc Grousbeck must think he can unload all those surplus Sebastian Telfair jerseys on the poor unsuspecting Italians

Looking at those teams, I almost feel bad for the poor European fans. The Celts, Grizzlies, and Twolves? Ugh… That has the potential to be some bad basketball, right there.

If Doc is back next year you know darn well he’ll use the European trip as an excuse throughout the year. He’ll tell us how the team didn’t have proper time to prepare, etc, etc, etc. He is the master of excuses, he’s so slick, he’ll say there are no excuses but then he’ll go on to list a litany of excuses.

The Italian people will certainly fall in love with the only Celtic with an Italian surname, Rajon Rondo. I’m certain the Italians will also love the newest Celtic, Gregorio Oden.

I’d be thrilled to go to Rome to see them, too bad I am back in the Boston area in September. Ah well.

I guess now we already know what the excuse will be for next season’s slow start.

Maybe the presence of dancing girls will make up for the quality of basketball that will be inflicted on the Italian populace.
