Gerald Wins It
First off the side of the backboard (with help from Pierce).
Then over Nate Rob with the Dee Brown tribute. (which was the best one)
Then an alley oop over the shot clock.
Finally, over the table windmill.
Done.

since the men in green finally won something, can we just cancel the rest of the season?

First legitimate smile I’ve had for a Celtic in some time…He destroys the rim…Hope it adds confidence and determination to his game…Nice of Paul to be a part of it. Our patience will pay off in the end…

I thought he was SIIIIICCCKKKKK. The only weak dunk he has was the pass over the backboard. Everything else was ridunkulous. Maybe he’ll defend next year and guys like Josh Smith and Iggy will sign up again..

I’m happy for him, I hope this somehow increases his play with the hopefully new found confidence.

i think barkley could have been more of a challenge to gerald than these other guys

I think Dwight should have been in the final. I wanted to see what he had planned for his finisher.

It was a boring dunk contest. The other guys stunk. The only good dunk I saw from the other guys was Howard’s second one. Ty Thomas didn’t even try. Nate Robinson is only there because he’s short. Gerald had some nice ones but the only one that I thought was great was the Dee Brown over Robinson dunk.

Gerald’s Dee Brown Dunk OVER NATE was the best dunk i’ve seen in a dunk contest! he shoulda saved that for the final round. i wonder if he used the cardboard tho if it woulda been better? or would it have fell if he slightly nicked it?

I liked his first dunk of the side of the backboard the best by far.

His second dunk shoulda easily been a 50. i think there’s a few dee brown haters on the panel

great, now that charlatan Wyc Grousbeck has a shiny new penny to throw to the season ticket holders. If only Gerald had done a dunk where he takes out his eyes a la Oedipus, allowing the Banner 17 consortium to stage a cross promotion with the “Adversity Advantage” book signing at the local Barnes and Noble. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ap-celticsslide&prov=ap&type=lgns

You could just see that the judges had Gerald picked to win after his first dunk. They had no use for Tyrus Thomas, and Dwight was impressive in his own way, but not fluid enough to compete with the other two. Nate has great ups, but Jordan, the Doctor, Nique, Vince and Kobe weren’t going to be blown over by seeing a little guy just dunk it – they wanted flair. I have to give Robinson credit for actually allowing Gerald to dunk over him. It was a nice display of sportmanship.
Personally, I think Gerald psyched the others out. They saw that first dunk, and just packed it in. The look on Robinson’s face after the Dee Brown tribute dunk said it all – even he was amazed by Gerald’s athleticsm. Gerald didn’t even have to take risks in this one. He played it safe in the final round, because he knew it was in the bag. I’d really like to see the league give him someone to push him the next time out, so that Gerald would actually have to try.
I have to give Dwight Howard comedy points. That “sticker dunk” was hilarious. The best part was the intentionally goofy picture of him on the sticker.

I love watching gerald but Nate made the finals look horrible. If Howard was in it I think Gerald might have had a few more dunks in his bag if he needed them, but all he needed to do against nate was dunk the ball like he does anyways. Going against Nate didn’t force him to do anything special. It would have been a nice final to see howard go against green but I still think green would have pulled it off.
The over the shot clock dunk could have been much better – but Paul’s pass was too good… the catch and dunk by Gerald was too easy. Had it been a bad pass, Gerald would have been forced to go get it and use more of his athleticism.
Dwight Howard should have been in the final. I think he was saving his best dunks for later in the contest. I also expected Gerald to pull out something really, really special – but he didn’t. He blew everybody away, yet I still think he could have pulled off something really spectacular.
I’m still waiting for the three point dunk. Take off behind the three point arc and dunk it… someday, some complete athletic freak is gonna pull that off. I suspect Gerald could do an 18 footer… I seriously wonder how far out Dwight Howard could go… he is long and he’s got huge hops for his size.

I was so happy for him during the whole event b/c he seemed confident and that he was having by far the most fun of anyone there. Seeing PP out there helping him was kinda like watching an older brother help a younger one out, and that was fantastic to see too.
Was anyone else happy that Jordan was a good judge who finally made it tough to get a 10? I don’t know how they got them all to be judges, but that was great too. Now on to the all-star game, which I don’t give a crap about haha.
Howard should have got there based on the creativity factor, plus he put the sticker perfectly straight not just slapped up there. I don’t think the judges could see that without their glasses.
Gerald showed a lot of cool and I’m impressed with how he carries himself.
For this old-schooler the dunk of the night was just before the contest, when TNT showed past All-Star in-game dunks. That the vintage, sumptuous, bad-axe, afroed, out my way, windmill by Doc only got 10% of the vote by the teenagers out there shocked me.
I have to agree with some of the other posters in thinking the judges were giving an edge to Gerald early. That’s not to say he didn’t earn it with the Dee Brown tribute dunk. I also agree with MikeDfromNP regarding Nate’s show of sportsmanship. He showed a lot of class with that gesture.

He respected Red and the Celtics. He is untouchable in my book. Never trade him. What a great young man.

In my opinion, the final dunk was altered by the league, as I thought he was planning on doing the “Blackjack dunk” and that was simply too much of a gambling reference for Stern who obviously wants a team based there. Great job Gerald!
