Chad Ford's Trade Idea
Chad Ford has an idea on how the Celtics can land Ray Allen. Its a doozy.

I disagree, Bankshot. Yes, we have other needs, but if you can get a player of Ray Allen’s caliber, while still keeping the core of your team, you do it. We’d also be getting back Robert Swift, who helps fill the need for a big.
Of course, this trade would look a lot better if we could find a way to move Wally.
I’ll give him points for creativity, but not much else.

Horrible idea. Ray Allen is way to expensive, particularly at his age. And who is going to play any defense?
I’d rather do what NJ and Seattle are doing: dumping their “stars” and rebuilding in earnest. How long does this “we’ll rebuild with Pierce” charade have to last? It ain’t working, Wyc. Wake up and smell the coffee.
as a celtics/bobcats fan I love this trade (mainly for the Bobcats because I hate Adam Morrison and i am a biig Lewis fan). From just the Celtics, not so much. Is seems like they’re giving up way too much for another aging wingman.

hobbs why do you “love that”? You love the idea of trading Gerald Green, a player of the future, and getting Ray Allen who has a couple good years left??? Im not sold on Robert Swift either at all.. talk about a kid who wasnt ready for the nba and should have went to college.. Plus the injury that sidelined him all season. This trade only makes sense for Seattle, nobody else. I would HATE this trade.
I love this trade because Robert Swift has breakout potential, ala Big Al or Andris Biedrins. His numbers in limited minutes are very good, although the injury is obviously a concern.
As for Ray Allen, come on. The guy is an elite player, and we’d be getting him for Gerald and Gomes? I mean, the guy is scoring 27 ppg; There is about a 1% chance that Gerald is ever as good as Allen, and Gomes is easily replaceable.
“This trade only makes sense for Seattle, nobody else.”
It makes no sense for Seattle. Why would they deal Lewis and Allen for marginal prospects? Because right now that’s all Green and Morrison are. On top of that they give up thier best prospect whom could have landed either Jefferson and a pick or Green a pick and another piece during the summer.

Swift is an injury-prone gamble. Scotty, I disagree with your analysis. Seattle wins this deal hands down. They ae going nowhere with Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis, so why not retool? The Celtics, meanwhile, settle for another 5 years of mediocrity, especially if Shuttlesworth makes them good enough to lose out on the #1 or #2 pick this year.
Wow, this is a strange trade. Mainly because if it were proposed by someone on this site, it would immediately be shot down as incredibly unbalanced in the Celtics favor. They get a borderline superstar, and a young center with a ton of upside, and all they have to give up is a prospect they are not completely in love with (Green), one they seem to be ready to give up on (Telfair), and a solid role player, that would really be expendable since Al can play the 4, and they will have Perk and big red in the middle.
Sounds too good to be true.
Personally, I might scrap the whole Seattle part, but I’d gladly trade Telfair for Childress at this point, if the Hawks are that desperate for a young PG.
Even if the whole deal were to go down, I’d rather keep Childress and let Seattle keep Swift. Childress is a nice defender and efficient secondary scorer (plus, the afro is sweet…)
This is a bag of crap trade and nothing else. Absolutely terrible. Why does Seattle do this? To get back Morrison (a bust), Childress (a disappointment, with some value), Green, Gomes and Theo’s contract, while giving up the best player in the deal, the second best player in the deal, AND the most valuable young player in the deal? Why on earth does Atlanta do this, to give up a player, who while disappointing, has some value, for a young bust of a point guard with no value? The C’s and Bobcats would RACE to sign on the dotted line (assuming in Charlotte’s case their skinflint ownership signed off on taking on Lewis’ salary). Idiotic, just like Ford. If he thinks Seattle would take that load of crap for Allen, Lewis and Swift, he’s crazy.

I’m with LA33 on the Childress for telfair. Let’s get this one done. It makes absolutely no sense to me from Atlanta’s standpoint, but if they insist, we should oblige.

The reason Seattle is doing this is to get rid of 72 million tied up with just two players for the rest of Lewis and Allen’s contract and getting good young players in return who are cheap. It makes sense for everyone except the hawks as stated by some people already. They need something else for childress, a pick or something.
total nonsense…the trade is awful for the celtics and the sonics..just doesnt make any sense…Robert swift please!!!!

"Horrible idea. Ray Allen is way to expensive, particularly at his age. And who is going to play any defense? "
Yeah this from the guy who thinks we should trade for Jason Kidd. You kill me Brickowski.
As far as this making sense for the Hawks, well this is the team that took a 19 year old who couldn’t start at UNC over the best PG prospect in a decade. Perhaps, it not making sense for the Hawks makes it more likely to happen.
Cheap shots at Brickowski aside, I have never been a big Ray Allen guy and he does play the same position as Pierce. Would Pierce and Allen really compliment each other? I don’t see why you would do it.

The trade is silly. Why would Seattle trade two perenial allstars for a bunch of role players & projects? Five of them too boot. Trade two all-stars, get back 3 pennies, a nickel, and a dime. That’s a really dumb trade. My guess is that draft picks would have to be flying all over to make that trade seem more rational. Telfair for Childress seems odd to me. Atlanta needs a PG pretty bad, and I honestly don’t think Telfair is worthless, but Childress is a pretty servicable player, odd mechanics and all. The salaries look like they could be a striaght up match almost, or with a filler added in, like Candi.

BTW, the C’s aren’t going to trade till the offseason. They will tank, hope to draft 1 or 2, and then go on from there. FA’s to consider will be Carter, Bibby, & Lewis. Signed vets will be the usual names JO, Garnett, & Gasol. I think that if the C’s draft 1 or 2, and get Durant or Oden, then they won’t make a blockbuster move. However, if they get hosed in the lottery, then I could see them move the pick/players Theo for something decent. IMO anyway.

half the folks on this site can create a better – and more realistic – trade scenario than that half-cocked trade by chad ford. why would the sonics trade for three young players who all need development and all basically play the same position.
most of those trades would get shot down; can’t believe that ford gets paid to come up with that crap.
(although i’d take childress and swift in a second…)
why on earth would chad ford waste his time on something like that?

Wow,
Include me among those that think Chad is raking Seattle over the coals here. Anybody else think they should do the opposite and make a bid for Garnett or Gasol? Cheap ownership? They could offer as much as Chicago.
Something like R. Lewis, Swift, E. Watson, D. Fortson’s expiring, and a draft pick? They have plenty of other young prospects to sweeten the pot – Petro, Gelabale or Sene. Trade for either Garnett and a bad contract like Jaric. Or Gasol and a bad contract like Cardinal.

I love how people think trading Green and Gomes type players is too much for Ray Allen. Ray is a HOFer still in his prime. If the Cs can get him for a good price, THEY BETTER!

Wally, Ratliff, Delonte, and Green/pick for Ray Allen and Danny Fortson.
I would think Seattle would want to wait until the end of the season…maybe evn until the Cs find out what # pick they have…before trying to make this trade.
Unless the Celtics have a top 2 pick, I dont even hesitate to make this trade.

“Robert Swift has been out the whole year and will be out the remainder cuz he was an idiot being drunk with his brother and crashing his car while driving under the inf…..Tore something in his leg, NO THANKS!!!”
You should try actually knowing something before typing. might help with that whole ‘credibility’ thing.
PS, he tore his ACL playing in a pre-season game. I’m fairly certian his brother’s car didn’t hit him on the court.

ray allen is NOT still in his prime. He is on the decline, doesnt play defense, and is getting old. Why would we trade gerald green for him, gerald green reminds me of a younger version of him except gerald can dunk. Robert Swift is a stiff. Talk about a gamble COME ON… there is no way Swift has the same potential as Al Jefferson, not a chance. Lets just trade all of our guys who have breakout potential and then trade them again as they are breaking out… sounds like a plan.
