Big Man Help?
The Nuggets and Celtics appear to be two of the more active teams, but neither appears to have the assets to pull off a major deal. George Karl has said he would like to add a point guard, and there were reports of a deal with the Mavs that would send Anthony Johnson to Denver for Eduardo Najera. The Celtics are said to be seeking any kind of big-man help.
Curious side rumor coming out of Detroit:
Rumors are still swirling around the Detroit Pistons, who are in the market for a perimeter player. Current Pistons Nazr Mohammed, Dale Davis and Flip Murray have been mentioned in trade rumors.
Talked about as possibly being Detroit-bound are two former Pistons--Chucky Atkins of the Memphis Grizzlies and Mike James of the Minnesota Timberwolves--along with Juan Dixon of the Portland Trail Blazers, Brevin Knight of the Charlotte Bobcats, and Morris Peterson of the Toronto Raptors.
I'm not saying that the two have anything to do with each other, just gave me just enough pause to wonder.

Guys we are so undersized it isn’t even funny. Our only two big men who aren’t undersized suck. Kandi is terrible in general and Perk is bad this season becasue of the foot. We desperately need some real big men not undersized ones.

How bad does Olawakandi have to be that he can’t get minutes on this team? Is he really that bad? The few glimpses we’ve seen of him this year he didn’t seem that much slower than Perkins and is a little more capable on the offesnive end. Why not sit Perk until he loses some weight and is healthy again and let the Kandi man do his thing?
This rumor doesn’t make much sense to me, but then again, anything is possible with this team at this point.
Skilled big men are always in demand which makes their acquisition suspect. Teams looking for PGs are generally looking for a number 2 or 3 PG, hardly trade bait for a quality big. We do have draft choices and expiring contracts and injured players who might have had reasonable value if not for their physical ailment. Since no one values our youth like we do, knowing what others don’t….that all of them are going to be superstars (LOL), we suffer quietly, silently hoping for the right ping pong ball to drop.

“How bad does Olawakandi have to be that he can’t get minutes on this team?”
The real question is how bad do the Cs have to be that someone is talking about Olawakandi getting minutes for them?

We get torched on the defensive end every night because of our lack of a major interior presence. We need a defensive machine— Perk COULD have been that, but his injury derailed him. For now, we live with Al’s defensive lapses, and maybe the team doesnt see those improving, in which case we need a monster 5 next to him to pick up the slack. In fact I see this as the single biggest need the team has— Oden is exciting to me more for his defensive lockdown ability than necessarily his post play (although I think he’ll be a very good scorer if he needs to be).
Brick, do you honestly think this team as is can get it done?
I know Doc has cost us between 5-10 wins this year, but don’t you think having 9 rooks on the roster has something to do with it also?
If we can move some of those guys for Pau, we would be crazy not to do it. He is a sure thing, and so are Paul Pierce & Big AL. Oden and Durrant still need 3 years in the league to get to where Pau is right now, at which time Paul is as good as gone. We will not get a better chance at a better player (who fits us perfectly btw) for years.
Theo, Green, Gomes/West, Perk, unprotected 07 #1 gets it done. With AL, Pau and Paul, who needs Oden?
Agreed D dub,
It seems like the more people talk about Gasol the worse he becomes.
the guy was an All Star a couple of years ago. He also lead his Spanish team to a World Championship over an American team loaded with guys that everyone would have taken over him. The guys a winner. He just needs to be in the right situation
Under Doc Rivers’ coaching he’s bound to improve immensly
All right I’m kidding on that one. But I do like Gasol for this team.
With all of that said it would surprise me if he ended up here
Thing is, Pierce is capable of carrying a team out of the East right now. Which means we should be improving the team right now. There will be no better player on the block than Pau for a long time.
With Oden/Durrant (if we win the lotto), maybe we see the first round in 08, 09, and hopefully, if we can re-sign everyone, and if Pierce is still around & healthy, have a shot at contending in 2010…. Too many if’s to bet this franchise on when we have the chance to write our own ticket today.
So anyone else been watching that kid Granger playing for Indiana?
He was the pick directly after we selected GG. Danny went for “raw, but huge upside” w/ GG … Granger has been a solid contributor w/ Pacers. I have a feeling that the delta between these two will continue to expand. Also, I feel Celtics Nation is at the end of the Ainge/Rivers era … it’ll be over by next year’s All-Star game. Danny has run out of time. He’s drafted ok (Jefferson is a starter, Delonte a solid 3rd guard, Gomes can stay in an 9-man rotation, TA … still not sure, and GG is too far away to know what we have, Perkins is a backup), but his trades and FA activity has been horrible, HORRIBLE. They have the worst record because collectively, they have the worst talent. A top 3 pick in the 07’ draft will help begin the process of turning over this collection of players. Shed Telfair and Wally for whatever you can get to open roster space and cap space. Move Pierce … that’s right … move Pierce now. Chicago would give up Deng (a talented 21 year old who can score and rebound as a wing player), and NY’s 07’ pick (a top ten for sure). Sign a veteran PG who can play 20 minutes a game, while tutoring Rondo and West. Pray … PRAY for Oden (since Deng and Durant would constitute some overlap in how they play, but maybe not). So let this collection play … use NY’s pick and Minnesota’s pick next year to add talent (via draft or trade) … add Jefferson. I’d feel better about that future than trying to trade for veterans to surround Pierce before his biological clock runs out. Come on Wyc …
