Around SBN: Win or Lose, Boston Celtics' New Big 3 Era A Success

The Suns Also Rise

Game Thread | Chat Room | Box Score

pho.gif At least this is a game that we'll have zero expectations for. There isn't even a glint of hope that the Celtics could win this game. So it should be a no-pressure, little defense, somewhat fun to watch game.

In other news, Memphis plays a winnable game in Golden St. and the Sixers have a pretty good shot at beating New York. (Scoreboard)

Update: I don't feel like creating a whole new post to tell you the C's lost again, so this is all you get.  Nice game by Big Al.

Is it just me or does AJ’s left hand tape job keep getting bigger and bigger?

Did anyone hear anything as to why its taped up?

thanks

He’s trying to look more like Greg Oden ;)

now our record is almost an inverse of the Suns

13-40 vs. 41-13

yep, we’ve got a looooong way to go

Green and Rondo barely play tonite, and Telfair makes a couple of drives to the hoops and he gets there minuites. He rode the bench for half the year and now he makes a couple of shots and suddenly he is the second coming of Havlichek. Rivers is wierd… Nice game AJ

naw, just closer and closer to going VC and mailing it in for the rest of the year

I need a new motivation ;)

Anyone else think PP played too many minutes (41)? He looked tired in the 4th as he was front rimming shots, missing layups, not getting much lift. I just don’t think he’s ready for big minutes and probably shouldn’t play that much for the rest of the season.

by Bankshot on Feb 21, 2007 11:38 PM EST reply actions

Ok, I wasn’t glued to this game minute for minute, but did PP not get rest in the second half? Pierce looked absolutely beat in the 4th and that is simply asking for another injury (with all this talk of tanking I hope this is not the objective). The chances the C’s chances of winning this game were infinitisimal, why do this with Pierce????

by flexilexi on Feb 21, 2007 11:45 PM EST reply actions

I think they felt it would be a big confidence booster to beat the second best team in the league, so I’m sure that’s why they left Pierce in so much. Ironically, he may be the reason we lost down the stretch. As Bankshot said, he wasnt making anything at the end and looked gassed. I think one reason why Telfair is getting so much play as of late may be to showcase him for a trade. Supposedly the Cs are burning up the phones for bigmen. For what reason? I have no clue.

by Vicirus on Feb 21, 2007 11:59 PM EST reply actions

I agree with you about Pierce’s minutes. I could tell without even watching. I was listening and following on ESPN Gamecast and you could tell he was playing tired and not very effective down the stretch. Let Green play 5 – 8 more minutes.

Put simply there’s is no sane reason to play him so many minutes in these games where he’s working himself back into shape. Doc has to keep things in perspective even while trying to win. Pierce will play as long as Doc lets him, so Doc has to be the one with some sense. The injury he had didn’t heal as fast as they expected. So there could be a risk of longer term damage if he were to reinjure it. Probably an increased risk of developing another injury as well. So what’s the point.

We didn’t play badly against of the league’s best teams. Unfortunately, if we play like this against every team, we will win too many games, and be out of the Oden/Durant race.

by SoCalCeltic on Feb 22, 2007 12:44 AM EST reply actions

We have a great buffer right now at being one of the top 2 teams. Even if we play decent down the stretch (what like 30 gms) we will only be in the bottom 4. But trust, the Celtics stink, Szczerbiak will never be healthy, pierce isnt 100% and Doc is giving Telfair minutes…dont worry, Im not saying we will definitly land Oden or Durant, but we will have a strong chance with the 1 or 2 worst record. Which we will undoubtably have

I was at this game and I have always thought Big Al was good, But after this game he is deff a keeper!!!!
The only thing I was thinking during the game why isnt Gerald playing more??? What are we playing for a title this year? Play the Kid! Great job Doc he wins the slam dunk contest then you give more PT to Telfair? Wtf way to smash the guys confidence and btw telfair is a great street baller but not a great NBA player!

by BostonGardenDeadSpots on Feb 22, 2007 3:47 AM EST reply actions

I dont have any problem with Doc finding what he has with Telfair… This is a lost season…Even for purposes of a trade.. He cant bury Telfair..Rondo disappointed me with his response with the loss of minutes…

While the losses pile up I’m getting more and more excited about the break-out season that Al Jefferson is having. While he’s still got rough edges on defense, he’s right there with his rebounding and offense. It would be foolhearty to expect more improvement from him at this early juncture. His impressive double/doubles speak volumes about his improved play. If only we could see the same improved consistency from our other “potential” stars!

The mark of a star is consistency of effort. Hello Mr. Jefferson, your star is beginning to shine through your production!

Agree on Al. He looks better than Gasol to me right now. If he played the first half like he played the second, that would’ve been a different game. At least the rebounding is consistent now, no matter what he does offensively.

I couldn’t watch the 2nd half as much as I love watching Nash. The outcome has become too predictable. So congrats to you real addicts. Let’s discuss Perkins. He’s either hurt to the point of why play him or he is barely NBA talent. His lack of progress is huge disappointment. How about his minutes going to Kandiman. As to Telfair we should defer to the talent evaluators (whoever they are). I, and most other bloggers, was ready to run T. Allen out of town in the first month and they hung with him and they were right. So maybe Telfair does have a game. I agree it doesn’t look like it now but we don’t see all.

I did not see the game but was it Marion covering Pierce primarily? Pierce went 7-20 and there were comments that he looked tired in the 4th. Was there some good defense too? I wonder if someone is actually interested in Telfair and he was being showcased?

by Vermont Green on Feb 22, 2007 12:13 PM EST reply actions

On Big Al—I think he took a great step forward last nite. He was a different player in the second half than in the first. Doc talked about it in the papers, but Al went from seeming to be intimidated by Stoudemire to attacking him ruthlessly. Instead of taking time taking his shot he basically caught and attacked the basket immediately. This is a big part of his growth process. As to PP—I also thought he was gassed in the 4th period. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s the one who wanted to be in there. What I’m more interested in is his free-throw shooting. Is it me or does anyone else think he’s shooting them differently. Last nite he was going to the line with his right foot ahead of his left. I seem to remember him shooting free throws with both feet evenly on the line. Vermont Green—Marion was guarding PP, but I don’t think he was all that effective until late in the game when he blocked a PP shot. PP barely could get off the floor with the shot and it was an easy block.
