I know this has been said a ton of times on here. But I want to say it again. Al Jefferson is the real deal. He is really starting to carry himself like an all star out there. He is really fighting for rebounds.
I also think that his offense is pretty good right now. But there is a huge room for improvement there still. He is really only using two or three moves on the offensive end.
The twelve foot jumper is a little ugly right now but at least we know hes working on it. I’d actually like to see him shoot it from a higher position above his head. I think it would make it harder to defend than when he shoots it from the shoulder. Like how KG and Jermain Oneal shoot that shot.
Al and Perk look like they are slowly learning how to play together. Perk is learning to get the hell out of the way when Al has the ball.
Things are actually not looking TOO bad for next year with Al and Pierce and hopefully a healthy Wally. It would also be cool if we end up getting a rookie that can contribute right away. But I think we need a veteran point the most.
Take a bite of reality. For anyone who thought this was going to be a cakewalk and that the Griz were going to roll over—no way! It’s going to be tooth and nail to the bitter end.

Telfair derserves some props for this one. He got in the lane and created down the stretch. Dont know hwere that’s been all season but that’s why he was brought here.

Why do I feel like this was a loss? It’s the Bizarro Superman syndrome – up is down, right is wrong, wins are losses. This was one horrible NBA game that unfortunately one team had to win. I think the Austin Toros, even without DJ coaching, could have beaten either team last night.
The Grizzlies snatched defeat from the jaws of victory at home against the Nuggets, picking up a game on the Celtics in the lottery chase. When it became apparent the Rockets had lost, Clyde Drexler commented that this was the game they would likely bemoan losing at the end of the season if it hurts them in the playoff seedings because it should have been a win even with Yao and T-Mac absent. On the bright side, the Sixers got a win as did the Sonics.
Drexler also chimed in with repeated references to Scalabrine, wondering aloud why he was logging so many minutes. Note to Clyde – Doc wanted to keep him warm for gobbling up that jump ball. Those were the Globe’s words, not mine, and perhaps a subtle reference to Scal’s inability to push himself away from the dinner table.
For the Kool-Aid drinkers out there, the Raptors got squished by the Spurs last night allowing the Celtics to pick up a full game in the Atlantic Division race.

Funny, I checked the game score while looking at my Fantasy stats for Pierce…saw 77-72 and assumed we lost. I didn’t even realize it was a win until I checked celticsblog.

Well how about this… I think Doc won this game with coaching. To beat the defense oriented Rockets, you had to change the tempo of the game and not let them set their help D, which allows premier defenders like Mutombo and Battier to excel. So Doc finally let Rondo and Telfair run wild and the pushed the pace, and changed the game. That is what good coaches do, and it really impressed me last night.

Seemed liked the little I saw the defense picked up with Rondo and West out there. That helps as does having TMac and Yao out! Saw Telfair out there in the 4th. Can anyone explain why?
Telfair was out there becasue Delonte West sucks as a point guard, what I’ve been saying since last season. Notice how you said things picked up when “Rondo and West” were out there? That’s because West wasn’t running the point. The same reason the Cs pulled it out at the end….West wasn’t running the point.
West sucks.
West is a “great player” in the same sense that a parent always thinks their kid is the best athlete or the best looking. Celts management overvalues many of our guys because they refuse to admit they drafted poorly. Sure there are exceptions, like Big Al (who is legit), but did you see anyone else in the league inquiring about D West? Of course not. The Celts think he is better than he really is because they cannot form an objective opinion.

This was one of the ugliest games I have ever seen. Props to Al, props to Bassy, Perk played well in limited minutes, Rondo showed why he is a rook but there is no question that the team played exponetially better with West at the two and either bassy or rondo at the point…I still dont understand what Docs fixation with Scal is….it was really quite funny to see the Houston announcers puzzlement at Doc’s moves…

For those who are in panic mode because we just killed our chances in the draft sweepstakes, you might take solice in two things. A win every once in a while (1) Keeps fans interested, and (2) Probably helps keep the C’s off Stern’s radar. I think that anybody who has watched the intentional botching of close games with (diplomatically) bizarre coaching decisions would be delusional if they didn’t think Stern is watching.
It’s refreshing to see coaches actually try to win a close game instead of what’s gone on since Paul went down.
The reality is that Paul will win some of these close games with or without the coach’s help because of his talent….so there will be a few more dissappointments this season for you “fans” out there.
Bankshot = broken record?
Bankshot
Does saying something over and over and over an over again make you beleive your own opinion more, or do you think you are actually changing someone else’s opinion?
Not being disprespectful Bankshot, but you were so hyped on Telfair ealrlier in the season and obviously he has been a dissapointment, although he has his moments and I like his speed.
So my ? is have you transfered this big dissapointment in the person you hyped incessantly before the season over to DW? Is he really so easy to hate and why?
While I love DW as a player (mostly his hustle), I can see the flaws he clearly has. These flaws will either break him or he will fix them – same as any other player.
You however act as if he contributes nothing tot his team and you can never wait to say – the faster we trade him the better off we will be and man he is not a PG (over and over and over).
It is a never-ending single minded focus and I find quite odd, tiresome and somewhat revealing. I think you know basketball, I think you are true Celtic fan, and you add to this site but really the non-stop bashing is grwoing old. I didn’t see your boy Bassy dving on the floor last night for loose balls and DW was. Find something positive – it might grow on you.
Peace
Come on BANKSHOT, give DW a little credit.
He has fought hard, deosn’t give up, he’s an above average shooter, he’s not afraid to drive the lane, and he has a high basketball IQ.
He played 43 minutes last night, made all 8 of his free throw attempts, had 5 defensive rebounds, and 16 points.
Yes, perhaps he’s a better SG than PG, but he’s key to THIS team, not in a trade.
Why do you dislike him so much?
Is it the tattoo on his neck?
How can anyone NOT agree with Bankshot that West sucks? I, for one, wholeheartedly agree.
Funny that no GM’s where inquiring about him at the deadline. Any guesses as to why that was? LOL….

I personally called and talked to the 0ther 29 GM’s in the league. I am a former Front Office executive.

Doc’s “fixation with Scal?” Easy. Doc’s playing to Danny in the hopes of saving his own arse. That, and with every minute that Scal plays our chances of outlasting the Griz increases.

Cleveland, to name one team, would LOVE to have Delonte as their PG. You should listen to Mike Brown’s weekly radio call-in show. He actually fields calls (“catches spears” might be a better description)from fans, and about 75% of calls lately have been irate calls saying stuff like “Why didn’t you get a PG during the offseason?” and “What makes you think Daniel Gibson is the answer at PG?” Cleveland fans would turn somersaults if they had somehow traded for Delonte. Trouble is, Cleveland has nothing comparable to trade. Varejao, being a big, is worth too much, and everyone else on the team is either grossly overpaid (Hughes), totally out of reach (LBJ, Z), or a stiff. (Gooden might have worked a year ago, but with Marshall showing his age, and Varejao being as limited as Perk offensively, they have realized they need him for this year’s playoff run.)
He’s a LOT better than Eric Snow (at least today’s ancient, vastly overpaid version) or Daniel Gibson. Delonte, as many others have said on this board, would probably work great at PG on a team where the offense runs through another true creator (example, LBJ, or Kobe, or t-mac) so that Delonte could do what he does best, but from the PG spot.
Delonte does have trade value, but only for the right team.
The trouble here is that we have a mish-mash line-up (half runners, half plodders) so that, in context, Delonte is neither fish nor fowl.
I think you may be blaming Delonte for a team-design issue that is really DA’s fault.
Give credit to Paul for this one, had a terrible first half but came to play in the second half. For those saying Pierce is selfish, he was willing to pass on the possession he hit the dagger three but when he gave up the ball his teammates chickened out and gave it right back to him. Its not Paul’s fault his teammates don’t trust themselves, they had 2 months to work things out without him in the lineup. Great play by Big Al and Telfair looked good down the stretch as well.

Anyone else notice we only got 14 total assists? That’s shameful. Lucky for us, Houston only had 15. JKidd had 14 assists on his own 2 nights ago. C’s really need to move the ball to be successful.

it was a butt ugly game. d west does not look good as a pg-forces way too many passes, no moves to the right. he did make clutch free throws and would make a good second string combo guard. gomes was lost and scal is and was a waste. doc is a bigger waste. telfair finally showed some good stuff. this team is a long way away from anything good.
Ummm Powe only played 3 minutes after starting??? For serious? And he didn’t get hurt? Thats normal…
