2 Game Winning Streak!
That's two straight victories. Another great game by Al Jefferson. A solid second half for Gerald Green. And Brian Scalabrine was just killin the Knicks in the first half! Of course the team blew a 20 point lead, but managed to hold on for the rare win.
In other news, Memphis lost but Philly won again (they beat the Suns!).

I cannot believe that the Knicks came back from a 20 point deficit against us again with a 2-3 zone. Rivers is an idiot, how could he not have drawn up something to combat a 2-3 after we’ve seen how it kills this team so far this season.

based on this game I would like to see a starting line-up of
pg Rondo
sg Paul
sf Green
pf Al
c Perk
This was the first fun game to watch in a long time (minus the 3rd)
I keep telling everyone…not this year, not next year but 2 years from now this team is going to be something great. I also still believe we end up trading our pick this summer. (mark my words)
Q-tip stopped scoring because Paul and Gerald started getting up on his 3-point attempts.
This game was borderline ridiculous if we can still call anything left this year ridiculous. Is that the third or fourth time this year NY has come back from a 20pt lead on us using a zone? I think it was the second time they did it and went to man down the stretch (wake up, Isiah) just in time to lose the game.
Rivers plays out of shape Paul the whole second half, perhaps next year PP will be the one going out for the year with surgery. The Celtics inability to break a zone is pathetic, almost in an amazing way. At least they got it down to AL finally when NY was dumb enough to go back to man.
For the record 3 of the C’s 15 wins are against Their New York Knickerbockers.
i want to see them lose. i like to see them win. pp did a good job at the end of the game feeding it to big al instead of hogging the ball. delonte still looks out of it at the point. yes brick, perk was very good on curry, and was being picked on by the refs. doc waited way too long calling timeouts and subbing in the third. he yells at rondo all the time. has anyone ever seen him yell at scal. has there been a powe sighting?
Doc finally figured out that Gerald Green is his zonebreaker. It doesn’t seem that hard to figure that a guy shooting over 40% on over 150 attempts could counter a zone. But then again we’re talking Doc Rivers.

I agree w/ nazzbo about Pierce actually passing down the stretch. That’s gonna be necessary to get Al and G$ to the next level. They have the talent to deliver.
When Rondo learns to shoot, he’s going to be an absolute terror. He’ll always be better than Telfair for his boards and his defense. Even though he’s small, I can see some triple-doubles in his future.

Don’t fool yourself, the celts had no business winning that game, or any game, if they can’t beat a zone defense. How many times must it beat us before Doc can come up with an answer for it?
I also worry about our point guards. It’s obvious that the coaches are preaching driving to the basket but Delonte and Rondo are terrible at it. How many times does delonte have to lose the ball on a wild drive to the basketball before we change things up?
2 game win streak or no, these celts can play better!

definitley a good win in the karma department. if we lost this one, there’s no way the basketball gods wouldve given up a top 2 pick.
memphis on the other hand….that team is openly trying to lose, and it’s not even march yet. if there’s any justice in the universe, they’ll end up with the 4th pick this year.

Gerald Green finally gave me something to open my eyes to.
His scoring was relatively easy, he was moving without the ball and he kept the ball and drove on his man pulled up and his the jumper or drove to the basket and got fouled. It was as simple as move Gerald without the ball and you will find more scoring opportunities.
Paul had a decent game but Paul looks lazy on offense he doesn’t run up the court with any sense of urgency and that by itself must of cost us at least 8 – 10 points, he simply dribbles too much and stagnates the offense with his dribbling instead of running and passing the ball.
Jefferson needs to make up his mind quicker as to what he’s gonna do with the ball, imagine if he was able to just catch the ball and shoot that would make his head fake that much more effective and thus score with more efficiency. If he was able to hit that 15ft shot with regularity he would eat up most of the league with his offense.
Rondo played a great game, he dominated on defense and he was the jump starter on offense, his rebounding is like few guards in the league, he gets key rebounds all the time, then he pushes the ball forcing the defense to run back as soon as they shoot the ball.
Scal has one of those games last night but things settled down for him in the second half nonetheless he did have a decent game, I just hope he doesn’t get 3pt shot happy, and i hope he contributes more on defense and the boards.
I hope Doc isn’t benching Gomez he’s still a steady guy on both sides of the court though I know he struggles against quicker forwards.
Telfair has a strong outing in Houston and then gets a DNP-CD for his efforts. I’d hand over the point guard duties to him and Rondo for the balance of the season and start West at the two guard spot. Having Scalabrine starting and playing 30-plus minutes makes no sense whatsoever. Outside of getting hot from 3-point land in the 2nd quarter, Scalabrine was about as ineffective as a player can be. In the immortal words of hockey coach Jim Schoenfeld (using the voice of Cedric Maxwell), “Have another donut you fat pig.”

At times, we looked like a professional team last night. We totally shut down Curry in the first half excellent defense lead by Perkins.
Then at times, our offensive ball movement was not offensive!!!!!
Sharp passing, cutting to the basket, finding the open man – where was this all season? Can we do it two games in a row? (I know we can’t but I thought that I would ask). Doc still needs to go! (especially if we win out and lose the lottery top pick). ;D
I think that one of the most impressive things about Gerald’s game last night was how he kept knocking down at least nominally contested jumpers in pressure situations. His stroke was so smooth… Definitely showed the potential to be that clutch shooter. I just wanna see him get more buckets in the paint, alley-oops, etc., partly to keep the defense honest, but mostly to make sure Gerald the Celtics don’t forget that his outside game should be a nice complement to the athletic-freak-of-nature potential that got him drafted in the first place, and not his default.
God, this blog can be such a downer sometimes. Yes, we still have massive, huge, gaping flaws. Our coach is often inexplicable, and our inability to break down a 2-3 zone is mind-boggling.
However, we just won a game down the stretch with GERALD and AL leading the way. Until the last jumper, Pierce was an afterthought. It’s becoming glaringly obvious to everyone in the league that Al is turning into a terror. And in the darkest season I can remember, we’ve won two in a row, the most recent against the hated Knicks, at the Garden, on a night honoring the late great DJ. Am I allowed to feel good about something?

The Knick’s have done this before against us. Do you really think Doc didn’t prepare the team for it? And if it was so successful, why did the Knick’s go back to man to man? And who won the game? Why can’t we just take some of the good things that came from last nite’s game?
Lately, I just trun on the C’s for a few minutes, out of some sense of duty. But last night? it was great. Al, Gerald, Rondo all playing well? Right now, that’s all i want from this team, or at least can reasonably expect.
Though i have to say, if there were any basketball gods, cleveland would not have won the lebron sweepstakes – boston and memphis this year have nothing on the tank job the cavs did 4 years ago

Just some quick comments.
1. Al and GG are really starting to play better and may be solid starters or even stars down the road.
2. I don’t know if Perk scored last nite but his defense on Curry was impressive. Perk’s value is that he takes the beating off Al and allows him to be fresher on offense and to rebound.
3. Perk and PP are still way out of shape due to their injuries.
4. I agree with not liking Doc’s coaching. However, it wasn’t Doc’s fault that we failed to properly attack the zone. It was the players. they just didn’t execute. They did start breaking the zone later in the quarter, just should have been sooner.

“I know GG and Al had good games, but I thought Rondo was the story. The kid had 8 ast and 9 boards in only 25 minutes! He also lead the team to a 20 pt lead. I really don’t know how Doc can defend his position to keep starting West at point guard. He is awful.”

Rondo had trouble with press last nite so was taken out. Unless we get another pg I think Rondo is pg of the future, but I don’t think he’s ready yet. He’ll need to develop that shot first. On another subject, no mention was made of Perk’s game last night. The last time the Knick’s played us Curry was able to do what he wanted with Perk (because of foot problem). Last night Perk was able to hold his own and basically take Curry out of the game and this could have been the difference. When Curry charges into Big Al (and it’s not called) Al bounces 3 or 4 feet backwards. When Curry did this to Perk last nite (and in the past) Perk just don’t bounce.
badax33, I’m sorry I didn’t read your last post before I wrote mine, but totally agree with you (except on Doc who I think is a better coach than people give him credit for). On GG I wrote a few days back that GG takes off too soon when he goes to the basket. Last nite he had a one dribble drive to the basket and got right under it before he took off and stuffed it. He’s learning every day. He’ll become consistent with time and he’s going to be quite a player.
