Young Celtics Fall to Sixers 88-82
Celtics took the floor tonight with only 9 players and Ryan Gomes was the oldest player at the ripe old age of 24. Pierce sat out with his sore elbow and will be day to day for the next game and in his absence, the young Celtics played hard but came up short. They were behind by as many as 15 and came back to tie the game with 5 minutes left in the fourth quarter. They just didn't have enough to finish though without any veteran leadership on the floor.
Rondo once again filled up the stat sheet and finished with 6 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 1 block. I can't wait to see what he can do with a summer to work on his game and coming back with a year under his belt. Telfair played 18 minutes and didn't score but had 5 assists. Allan Ray played 26 minutes and struggled on both ends of the court. He finished with 7 points on 1-6 shooting and was 4-4 from the FT line. He struggled on the defensive end and was constantly burned by Korver as he went for 26 points.
Delonte West is becoming the iron man of the Celtics playing 45 minutes and finishing with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block. Gomes finished with 9 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals and looks as if he is getting his legs back under his jumper after coming back from the injury. Gerald Green started in place of Pierce and played 20 minutes. He finished with 12 points and 3 rebounds.
Al had another strong game finishing with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 1 assist. Perk played only 28 minutes. He did a good job defensively when he was in and wasn't in foul trouble so I am not sure why he wasn't on the floor more. He finished with 6 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 1 block. His assists were great bullet passes from the top of the key inside to Al. Both resulted in a 3 point play for Al. Powe played 12 minutes and as always made the most of his minutes finishing with 6 points, 4 rebounds and took a couple of charges. He also had 2 fouls which should make Doc happy.
It seems as though this team depends on Pierce for so much when he is playing, they have trouble executing the plays when he goes out. They play hard and are in the game right up until the end but just can't seem to finish out games. I really hope they can pull it together and win a couple more without Pierce even though Milwaukee is sneaking up on us for the second worst record. They are only 3 1/2 games behind us now and breathing down our necks. But right now, the confidence that these kids would get from pulling out a few wins on their own would be worth it.  This loss officially eliminates the Celtics from playoff contention.

Hello, everyone… Cambridge-bred, checking in from Chapel Hill. :D
No TV… :-\ … so…
“How was Gerald’s defense? (Or something like it…?)”
“Did Telfair force those shots he missed, or no?”
“Was Powe overmatched or up to it?”
Hello, everyone… 10 games left.

I don’t care what the stats say, our guard play does not get it done. We play so bad without Paul because everything is run through him. Everything is run through him because it cannot be run by our guards effectively. We need more talent, better defense obviously but a big thing we will need to become one of the elite teams is a big time guard. It’s not going to be West and the jury’s still out on Rondo. Can Rondo get to that level before Pierce’s time is up? Big question.
West is a nice player but not a 40-plus minutes a game guy on a good team. Rondo and Telfair need to get better and hopefully that will happen in the next year or two. A vet back-up would be a nice option, though.
The tapes of last night’s game should be destroyed lest they fall into the hands of any European or Chinese broadcast outfits. It would set David Stern’s global marketing strategy back ten years if anyone saw replays of that abomination. It was a good night to have a remote control and other options.

wiserguise,
GG had a solid game on both ends except for early fouls. Telfair also played relatively well and kept the team going in the 2nd Q, no forced shots. I agree with the analysis of Perk’s contribution, you gotta wonder if his feet were acting up. Powe played well but so did Andre Miller, and Dalembert, Korver. But overall it was a sloppy game. Gotta lol about finally being eliminated from the play-offs…the tears are long gone.

I know this is going to sound like a broken record, but I know the majority out there think the same. Brickowski…You’ve either got to mix in some suggestions or positives into your posts or stop posting. You ruin the flow man! Look at almost every other post on this thing and about 95% of them have a suggestion for improvement in with things. Maybe pointing out a player that had a good game, something. You just bring everyone down and complain. I know there are a few others that do the same a lot, but there is obviously a reason why yours stand out. Try to come up with something that is worthy of discussing. Are you sure you’re not a Laker fan put in here to sabotage the troops?!
Big Al had another nice game but was getting all the attention again with Pierce out. I’m not sure why we can’t seem to realize his importance to the team. Why do we wonder why the offense struggles when you have one of the top scorers in the league out of the line-up. It takes some time to adjust. These guys are going to be solid for a long time. I would like to see Gomes get back into his old groove. Telfair has lost all confidence which is too bad. He’s better than he’s playing. Powe needs more minutes…

As for negativity, what’s so negative about saying that Rivers tanked the game when that is, in fact, what happened? Many people here favor tanking to increase the chances of getting the #1 or #2 pick. Wouldn’t it be more negative to say that Rivers cost the Celtics yet another game with his idiot coaching moves? He’s done plenty of that, too, but last night was intentional and the result was what the team wanted.
last night was the first game all year that i missed. i have either seen, or watched every other game this season in their entirety. for all you people that dont think rondo will be our point gaurd, please, the next game watch only him on the court. dont watch the ball, but keep your eyes on him. he does everything correctly, except shoot. shooting can be learned. the other great things he does are pure instinct. im all in favor of getting a top 2 pick, but i might be in the minority of people who think that no matter what happens in this years draft, we will still end up being one of the top 3 teams next year. like i have said, i have watched EVERY game including all the pre-season ones. ive said it before, but never really meant it until now …… “watch out next year”

Well I knew there had to be at least one post out there of yours that wasn’t just a complaint… More of those type and less whining please!
Here are some thoughts though on that. How are any of those coaches better than Doc. None of them have done anything at all. Coaches get far too much credit and far too much blame. Unless you can pick up a Jerry Sloan, Larry Brown, Phill Jackson, or that level coach then you are just creating the same situation in 2-3 years. Elite coaches are not out for bid typically.
Unless we get Oden or Durant, no one out there is going to help us for 3-4 years and likely not better than what we have. Oden or Durant will not likely help for another 1-2 years either. Rookies don’t come in and dominate typically.
Kirilenko is a nice player, but there is no way the Jazz, who have plenty of offensive firepower, give up an all-star defender and hustler for Paul. He’s only 26 years old. We saw what happens when we lose PP’s offense. We need more offensive help, not less. Kirilenko has also had a problem staying on the floor the last 3 years. He has missed between 15-30 games each of the last 3. Too thin and brittle to play as hard as he does.
I think we sign Doc for an extra year extension so that he is not a lame duck coach and then don’t have to eat too much if things don’t pick up dramatically next year. We trade the pick if we don’t get Durant or Oden with Theo’s contract for Lamar Odom (works in the trade machine). And most importantly we stay healthy! This team was a playoff team for sure this yar with Paul, Tony, and Wally, and Perk staying healthy all year. You throw Odom in that mix and the youth progress a bit more and you can be a force in the east…
Keep up the constructive posts. Don’t just make us all feel bad about our team. C fans can’t be fair weather fans… If we haven’t learned that the past 21 years then I don’t know why we’d still be around.
When he kept O’B & Walker he was a bad GM/or even worse….my point is all but Pierce and ChrisWallace are new to Ainge and if he turns this pick into something he’ll get credit…if Jerry West gets Oden to go with Gasol,Gay,Miller,Warrick, signs a mid-level guy and the Grizz soar he’ll be a genious again…GM’s do 8 bad things to every 2 good but if the 2 good work out???? sittin pretty..
Nazzbo – Where does credible come from? None of us are credible. We’re a bunch of fans who sit around and read/write on a blog. If we knew something we’d be making a living at this. We do this for entertainment purposes only. That’s being a realist. Saying someone sucks doesn’t take anything. Giving a solution says something. Just becuase a person posts a bunch doesn’t make them right about anything. We just want some dialogue and “what ifs” to discuss and read as Celtic fans, not everyone whining and complaining. If I wanted to hear that I’d go listen to Liberals. All complaints, no ideas or solutions!
Thanks, R. Robey R. Hi, Jaycelt.
Little aspects still hold my attention, metasabermetrickishly.
