Well deserved…the high school phenom has arrived in the NBA!!!

by Porky on Mar 5, 2007 5:04 PM EST reply actions

many more of these to come.

by gmw1987 on Mar 5, 2007 5:12 PM EST reply actions

He deserves this award. I always suspected he would have nice post moves and be a good rebounder but he’s even shown an ability to face up and out quick some of the bigs he’s matching up against.

Glad we didn’t trade him for some malcontent overrated stiff like Garnett or Iverson.

Go Celts!

by lovethecees on Mar 5, 2007 5:12 PM EST reply actions

Hopefully the first of many to come.

by Gino on Mar 5, 2007 5:12 PM EST reply actions

Stamina? 96 minutes in 24 hours. Turnovers? 1 turnover in 96 minutes. Proclivity to foul? 5 personals in 96 minutes.

by Celtsfansince55 on Mar 5, 2007 5:13 PM EST reply actions

this is just a glimpse of what we will see for years to come!!
With Oden and PP we’ll have be best frontcourt in the NBA!
Any doubts?

by Banda on Mar 5, 2007 5:14 PM EST reply actions

Excellent! Big Al is truly coming into his own. Now we just need a second big to complement him.

by Eeyore III on Mar 5, 2007 5:52 PM EST reply actions

Good for him. Good for the team. Good for us. everyone deserves this.

by MaineBleedsGreen on Mar 5, 2007 6:08 PM EST reply actions

Everybody should relax on the Durant/Oden fever kick. If I recall correctly some years ago Toronto finished with a better record then us and they grabbed the first pick. The two may not even come out of school. Of the two I think Durant is the most likely to declare because Oden is still working on his game. Durant is a 2 nothing more, just a 2. Who says Noah wouldn’t be a good fit.

He is not Oden but he has motor he is far better then Perk and he is a 7 footer. The franchise has a long way to go, number 17 is prob 7-10 years away.

I don’t know who supports the patriots here but if anybody has been paying attention there are rumors swirling that BB might bolt to the Giants in 08. Now, back to the Celts, they will be fine in the future. Anybody check out Law 1V of Texas A&M. He got some game doesn’t he. Trading Paul at this point would be a mistake. His contract although movable is not going to get us a difference maker. I heard some blog about Sam Cassel…a complete waste and so isn’t Kidd. Who says Garnett would want to come to Boston not many players do. Ainge and I am not a big fan either is working with what he has. Boston is the Red Sox city. The celts are like the 4th team here, we should be excited Pierce signed an extension.

I honestly didn’t think he’d have this kind of year until his fourth. Talk about pleasantly surprised. I mean, I was thinking a 10/6 kind of year last year but pushed it to this year cuz of him being slowed down so much by injuries.
This is really awesome. The coming-out party is here.
Praise be…
Now here’s the fire-starting debate: How much credit does Doc get?
I’m outta here!!!
LOL

by Big_Easy on Mar 5, 2007 6:12 PM EST reply actions

I’ll give Doc credit for adding Clifford Ray to his staff.

by Berkcelt on Mar 5, 2007 6:35 PM EST reply actions

Finally Al is getting the respect from the refs that he didn’t receive in the past. No longer does he have to go sit on the bench for getting two quick cheap calls in the first quarter.

Now if Perk could just earn the same respect someday….but he still has a ways to go.

by Celtic Steve on Mar 5, 2007 7:12 PM EST reply actions

Clifford Ray for 6th Man of the Year!

by MattD on Mar 5, 2007 7:29 PM EST reply actions

This is the best news of the season so far. The celtics were a laughingstock a few weeks ago, and since then we have had Gerald Green win the dunk contest and now this. Maybe people outside of New Englad will start realizing we do have some good young talent.

by PrimusSucks on Mar 5, 2007 7:31 PM EST reply actions

Good job Al. Even the most ardent of the anti-Ainge crew have to give him credit for Drafting Jefferson.

by Birdbrain on Mar 5, 2007 7:53 PM EST reply actions

Im Applauding… ;D

i had my doubts but ill be the first to congratulate him as well.

Kudos Al.

Remember when he couldnt stay on the court because of foul trouble? Wow, he has done a remarkable job this year.

by What Would Stojko Do? on Mar 5, 2007 8:33 PM EST reply actions

WWSD : and when he would sprain his ankles with every step?

YEA BIG AL! 8)

Well deserved.—-Everyone has been saying the Celtic’s need veteran help. I’ve always said, since Danny’s arrival, that that help would come from within. I’m not saying that Al is completely there, but he sure is close to being some of that veteran help. I think more is on the way in DWest, GG, TA (thinking ), and I’m up on Perk. Some want KG here. Compare Al’s game to KG’s last nite. Al is a tough under the basket player. KG is a soft outside 7 footer. To me he is Blount supreme grade. Al, Perk, Gomes, Powe, Pierce, West and Rondo are all tougher under the basket than KG when it comes to rebounding. I know KG gets 10 rebounds a game, but they seem to come to him. He doesn’t seem to fight for them. I’ve never seen him take a charge and he doesn’t seem to go hard to the basket unless there is an open lane.

this guy deserves MUCH love and MUCH respect…..after his rookie season, 90% of Celtic fans expected too much too soon (me included)….he had some real bad luck with injuries, and it seemed 90% of Celts fans backed WAY off of Big Al, even willing to trade him….he came back this year, shook off even more bad luck (appendectomy..!) and is having a break out year…….hope hes in Green for many many more Player of the Week awards…

Atta Baby AL. KEEP it up!

by AdrianoMG6 on Mar 5, 2007 9:49 PM EST reply actions

Congratulations Al, well deserved !!!

May this award be the first of many throughout a long and illustrious career.

I wonder how much credit Al would give Clifford Ray and how much credit he would give Doc? Just a thought.

Love your work Al and I hope I get to see another 17 years worth in a Celtics uniform.

Cheers

The first week in March next year, Green will be the next recipient. Congrats to Big Al and I wonder if he can win “The Most Improved Player” award at the end of this season.

by AllabouttheGREEN on Mar 5, 2007 9:53 PM EST reply actions

I told you guys he is better than Kevin McHale

by BigAlBeezy on Mar 5, 2007 10:04 PM EST reply actions

Al has improved by leaps and bounds this season. The biggest improvement is that he has been able to stay out of foul trouble. He went from being a foul magnet, to being able to play 40 foul free minutes, which has opened up the rest of his game. In reality, he scoring and rebounding at roughly the same rate before, when he only played 19 minutes, but since he often plays double the minutes now, he puts up double the numbers. It has been great to see.

Props for proving all the haters & doubters wrong. Al himself once said “The cream is gonna rise to the top…”

by LuckyNumber07 on Mar 5, 2007 10:38 PM EST reply actions

Did Big Al ever really have “haters”? I don’t ever recall seeing a “hater” post. A doubt or two, maybe.

by Big_Easy on Mar 5, 2007 11:55 PM EST reply actions

23.5pts./ 14.5 reb/ 2.5 ast/ 1.5 blks in the 4 game winning streak

19.8 pts/ 11 reb in the 5 game winning streak in Dec….who says he doesn’t play well with a healthy Pierce…Ofcourse he struggled during the 18 game losing streak as we are asking him too much to be the leader when he is only 22.

As a sidekick though and without the pressures of the double team down low, he is an absolute beast. I mean these figures that he has posted during these wins is sick im pretty sure he’ll become a fixture in the Annual All-Star event.

by bopna on Mar 6, 2007 4:00 AM EST reply actions

good going al. good going clifford. backtracking on al- where the hell was the coaching staff, medical staff, and ainge when they were allowing al to play on those bad ankles- and were they even taped the first time? that’s what i would like to know. then all this happy horsebleep that he has to earn more time on practice effort.

by nazzbo on Mar 6, 2007 7:16 AM EST reply actions

Everyone wants to bash Ainge…Now can he say he hit a homerun with the 15th pick in the Draft…What Big Al does in the offseason will be interesting. Will he add some bulk or work on the jumper or improve those passing skills…What ever he does I think we have a 20 and 10 guy next year. Now what do you do because we will have the Number or 2 pick this year… and if oden doesnt come out, what do you do…keep the pick…grab durant…they would be teams willing to give you the farm for durant…With his length and range on his jump shot..he can give 15 pts per game next year coming off the bench on put backs and 3’s
