Around SBN: Indy 500: 'Greatest Spectacle In Racing' Set For Sunday

Welcome to Tank Week

TankThis week's lineup is as follows:

Tuesday: Atlanta, who just suspended Josh Smith for cussing out his coach.

Wednesday: Philadelphia, one of 5 teams with 31 wins.

Friday: Milwaukee, coming to town for a rematch of last week's Battle of Who Could Care Less.  Oh yeah, and they just offiially shut down Redd for the year.

I don't mean to scare you or anything, but there is a distinct possibility that we could win all three games.  Fear not, there are 3 very losable games to finish out the season next week.

That is a hysterical picture, Jeff.

We have a secret weapon tank!!!! – when the gamne is close. It’s called the “ClipBoard Doc Tank” – it draws up a game losing ISO play and then shoots a desperation blank blowing up any chance of pulling out a close one.

yeah that picture is classic. Mike Dukakis. Did you just google " army "

by Tommy on Apr 10, 2007 4:50 PM EDT reply actions

It’s too bad that someone with Adobe couldn’t have substituted a Celtic luminary (e.g. Ainge, Grousbeck or Rivers) for Dukakis in that picture.

i mite be wrong but is the atlanta pick thats going to phoenix top 3 protected? if so that is the only team that should really be tanking right now

It truly is one heck of a race to the bottom that we are witnessing. The only thing that was missing was a shot from a starting pistol! :D

Josh Smith is a guy we need on this roster. We have roleplayers in every capacity except the slam dunk champ who feels entitled simply because he won a dunk contest and has done little else. Maybe Gerald will develop a sense of entitlement this summer and we can start having a lot more discourse in the locker room.

Doc’s game plan should be built around Perks post moves. Let him shoot 15 times. Maybe see if he has any three’s (Eddie Curry).

He just may be available.

If we hold on to beat Atlanta, the upcoming game against the Bucks should be of epic tank proportions. With Durant’s coming out announcement (and Oden not far behind?), who knows what these teams may (or may not) do??

Thank god! A perfect game! We lost I love it for now.

How did we turn a 7 point 3rd quarter lead to an 8 point loss to a team that really needs to be tanking worse than we do right now?

by celty86 on Apr 10, 2007 8:43 PM EDT reply actions

Those folks up in Milwaukee must be really depressed. They had to be figuring Atlanta would lose to the Celtics.

Do you really think David Stern gives a shit if we’re tanking right now? I mean honestly, what does he expect? We’re arguably the worst team in the league, are nowhere near the playoffs and have a chance to get 1 of 2 LEAGUE changers. How can you you blame any franchise for wanting that? Are we supposed to try and win these next 3 games for postarity?
Besides, we have semi-legitimate excuses. Pierce is all messed up, Wally is his usual glass self and Big Al’s knees are banged up. If Stern wants to take issue with that, I think its a pretty piss poor argument. We’re legitamely depleted, Its not like we’re chucking up air balls at the others teams basket.

Wow. Just got back from Philips Arena. That was U-G-L-Y, even when they were leading. They just faded away. But I had to laugh when, with the C’s down by 9 with the game still within reach, he had Perk and Gomes riding the pine. It was too funny. You can tell he just let the Hawks win. He’s not very good at planning a win, but he sure can plan a loss.
It was so depressing to watch, with so few players around to watch. I had to explain to my fiancee the quality of basketball she was in for including the Hawks’ situation (missing JJ, Childress AND J. Smith, and even Salim Stoudemire).
But as the game slipped away, I just had to shrug. Well, I thought, we just got a little closer.

Let’s see… Gomes sits out the entire 4th quarter while Pinkney plays. Meanwhile, Rondo is held out until Hawks have a comfortable 7 point lead with 3 minutes to go.

Somehow I’m thinking Doc might have an understanding with the Celtics brass about an extension.

by no kidding on Apr 10, 2007 9:06 PM EDT reply actions

Big Easy- you got it right. doc’s not good at planning to win and good at planning to lose. no perk, no gomes, and a late rondo- i do thank you doc for the ping pong balls.

Private Po calling Colonel Tank…..over

Colonel Tank: “Yes Private Po – I read you….. over”

Private Po: “Operation Atlanta a sucsess…The Hawks never knew what hit them. We took the offensive early and then simply let Doc take over as we retreated the entire second half…….over”

Colonel Tank: "Good work Po……any trouble with the troops?…..over

Private Po: "No sir, except for GG and Rondo who obviously need a refresher course in proper tanking procedures. Thank God Telfailure and Ray helped overcome the efforts to win by these two hard heads……over

Colonel Tank: “Push on too Philly Po – if you need tank reinforcements let me know and I will active "Operation Scali” ASAP……………..over and out

Uh oh, it doesn’t get any easier. The 6’ers played without three of their top six tonight . . . but won!

by JungleJim on Apr 10, 2007 11:14 PM EDT reply actions

When Veal doesn’t play, regardless of whether he’s injured or not, how can anyone accuse us of tanking? On the other hand, having just signed McCarty to a 10-day contract is likely to raise some…what?..eyebrows?

by Celtsfansince55 on Apr 11, 2007 2:16 AM EDT reply actions

The sixers should beat us too unless AI and Miller won’t play. Then we lock up (lose) the Bucks game and it’s all she wrote. I agree with Whales regarding Stern. Except that with all injured guys back we are not the worst team in the league. #$&*! Stern! He hates the C’s anyways!
