End Of An Era? Or More Of The Same?
This picture was run in the Globe 10 years ago. Need I say more? (special thanks to Daniel Babbit for saving and sending me this pic)

“QUICK” someone burn it and sssssssssssssssssh!
Don’t even want to think about that ……. it’s been so long….funny I remember getting excited as I have now thinking about Oden…that I’m trying not to fall back into that trap…..
Just think even though we didn’t get Duncan what this franchise would have looked with the likes of
“Walker” “Pierce” “Johnson” “Billups”
But not to worry……… right ????
I am going to guess more of the same for $300, Jeff

Wow!…a sobering photo…Now all we need is a photo of Len Bias to complete the entire generation of futility…
Man, I was such a half-wit that I didn’t even give a thought to us not acquiring Duncan…I’m far more jaded now, although I’ll not entertain any thought outside the top two until I have to…

Remember everyone, just like we should have back then, We are much more likely NOT to get one of those guys than we are to get one. Prepare for the worst and expect the best. That is why the 3-5 discussions are right on. It’s easy if we get a top 2, but not so easy when what is “LIKELY” to happen happns and we are lower. If we are smart drafters, which I have full confidence that Danny is, we will still get a star potential player to be a huge piece of the puzzle for years to come. Big Al, Pierce, Rondo, and any one of those guys a few years down the road is a tough team to beat…
What’s wrong with being confronted with a picture like that? “Haha, you hoped wrong”? Eh, I’ll just leave people to their internet bullying.

Hey the guy was right, it was the last game of the pre-Duncan era… for San Antonio.

We don’t land a big fish in the draft, don’t parlay the Theo contract into a veteran, and don’t field a healthy team next year (that means you, WallyWorld), it’s so very much more of the same.
More needs:
- A brain for Gerald Green
- A jumpshot for Rajon Rondo
- A diet for Kendrick Perkins
- A backup for Kendrick
That’s just scratching the surface. We’re gonna need a whole lot more than a sweetly bouncing lotto ball — although would be one helluva great first step.
By the way, I covered Tim Duncan a bit when I was still a sportswriter (seemingly in another life), and I can’t tell you what it was like to seem him up close and live playing for Wake Forest. He had Celtic written all over him, just like Grant Hill did. Selfless, versatile, team-ball players. Damn.
Even if we don’t get the #1 or #2, I’d rather be us than almost any other team that missed the playoffs except NOK.
Pacers, Wolves, Clippers, Kings, Seattle, Knicks — they had more wins, but we have a brighter future than any of them.

One thing to think about is that even if the Celtics would have gotten Duncan, they still were stuck with Patino. How long do you think Duncan would have hung around in Boston with Patino throwing him under the bus after every loss? For all of Doc’s faults as a coach and there are many, he is still probably a better bench coach than Patino and not a lousy egotistical selfish jerk. Patino was so bad as a GM and a coach that I really don’t think that even Duncan would have helped much and would have left after a couple of years.

the big mistake from that draft was giving up on Chauncey
JohnCK is right; Patino and his ego was a huge mistake that put this organization behind for years; Duncan or no Duncan
