Frank, it’s a possibility that has to be realistically accepted. Bibby may be defensively challenged and his play may have slipped the last couple of seasons. But when he’s on form he can shoot well and direct traffic which our offense will need from the point guard spot. I’m not advocating it but it’s not an idea that is way out of left field either.
I’ve been watching the mocks and surprised that few people have Brewer going higher. I think Ryan had him just breaking the top ten. If we get one of the first lottery picks, why not trade our next year’s one (and throw in anything that makes it work) for Brewer. On a team that cannot focus guarding this guy (Celtics: Pierce, Jefferson, number 1 or 2 ) he is going to reak havoc. 6-9, can shoot, dribble and defend. I would take him before any of the other Gators. Oh, and I’m assuming our number one next year is near the end of the draft, lol.
Why don’t we get both SAR and Bibby. You could then put Bibby at the one, Gerald at the two, Paul at the three, SAR at the four, Scal at the five to anchor the defense. You’d have the absolute worst defensive players in the NBA at the 2 and four, One of the worst at the one, a hand waver at the 3, and a 5 who gives you a rebound every 20 minutes. A perfect defensive lineup for Doc. Bibby and SAR would get down to the defensive end about every other possession.
I see little difference in Telfair’s defense and Bibby’s.
A solid defensive anchor and good high post passer (Hibbert, perhaps) should be available when we draft to complement Perk. Get Wally, Perk and Tony healthy, hope Doc has an epifamy and learns to coach defense…and maybe we sneak into the 7-8th spot??
By the way, who the hell cares what a blithering stoned out idiot like mellencamp thinks. Hopefully least of all, McHale.
SAR can’t defend a chair either. Plus he has a long contract and bad knees? No no no.
Jason Terry is rumored to be on the block. If you want to spend a gazillion quadrillion dollars on a veteran point who can shoot a little better than West, Terry is a far better target than Bibby. At least Terry can play a little defense.
Odds are, I wouldn’t make the Bibby deal. I think he’s fairly washed up and whether its his fault or not, he’s struggled with teammates in both Vancouver and Sacramento. While I want a veteran point guard, I think I’d rather hold on to #3 than bring Bibby into the fold. Perhaps a three team deal with another team getting Bibby and the C’s getting a couple of useful players could work.
The point though was that that type of deal, Wally for a useful veteran and a later pick, could be on the horizon if we don’t win the lotto.
Sort of wish Tony Allen would be little more articulate….

“Frank, West is ok but he has no right hand. Terry is ok but he killed Dallas in this year’s playoffs. See you can always find something wrong with everybody. How about Brevin Knight?”
True enough, but Ginobili doesn’t have a right hand either. And West is working on it. Let’s see what happens next year.
As for Brevin Knight, he’s 5-10 and he can’t shoot. IMHO the most underrated pg in the league is Mo Williams, who is a free agent, and who will coast only a fraction of what Bibby or Terry costs. Same with Steve Blake, although Blake isn’t as good as Williams.
Frank, I do understand the sign & trade possibility with Williams, I just don’t believe Milwaukee will let him go that easy. We couldn’t afford him straight up as a free agent and let me know what we could offer that they would want back in a sign & trade. With Bibby, I think it might be different due to the fact that I think both Bibby & the Kings are ready to part company. Williams is playing at a higher level right now than Bibby thus he will be harder to get. If we are #3 and Milwaukee is #4 do you think the Bucks would take Wally in a sign & trade for Williams to move up one spot? I don’t. But Sacremento would probably move Bibby to move up 7 slots.
There are about 10-12 better options than Bibby, who may be the most outrageously overpaid player in the NBA. I wouldn’t even take Bibby straight up for Szczerbiak.
If Williams is too expensive, move down to option #2. But we ought to be able to do better than option 12.
There is quite a bit to be said for drafting Mike Conley, Jr. with pick #3 and resolving these pg issues for once and for all.
Brick, two things.
Are there many PG’s out there who are better than Bibby? Of course. However, how many are we getting for Wally Szczerbiak? To get even a Jason Terry, we’d probably have to give up Wally and the 3 and move down significantly. While it would be nice to get Mo Williams in a sign-and-trade, I’m not sure we have the horses to get it done. The way I look at this isn’t so much choosing Bibby over Williams or Terry but Bibby over Wally. Again, I’m not sold on the price being paid for that deal but this kind of swap semi-useless for a little less semi-useless is the most likely deal if we want to move Wally AND keep a lotto pick.
Second, Conley Jr., like almost all young PG’s, will likely take a year or two to be ready to take the reins. The Paul Pierce issue comes into play here. I think we need a veteran PG to run the show and help Paul win now. I don’t think Paul is going to be thrilled if he has to go through more growing pains with Conley and Rondo.
