“Luck of the draw went the Spurs way in ’97”
Boston Globe, Masters of the Obvious. What did the author of this article get paid for it? Nothing, I hope.

If we end up with the #1 pick, and Danny doesn’t take Oden (without some sort of blockbuster trade down to #2), I will fully support his firing. I don’t think Danny is that much of a moron, though. Oden fits this team perfectly, and a frontline of Oden and Big Al could dominate for over a decade.
(Sam Smith did say his source was probably joking, though.)
Just a different opinion, but I think that a frontline of Jefferson (who I like more at C) and Durant (who in two years will play PF and will be one of the best) could dominate for over a decade too. So I will support Danny if he takes Durant with the #1…

I agree, I think Danny is given a “smokescreen” on taking Durant over Oden. Dominant centers are what championships are built around. Hopefully Danny knows that.

lol at Oden ‘requesting’ that whomever draft him also draft Conley. I think I’d rather have Durant as well.

I don’t understand that Southcoast Today article. He makes a point of saying what a huge dropoff there has been in talent historically from the 2nd to the third pick (or at least saying it’s a crapshoot) and then goes on to list mostly counter-arguments!

Heinsohn is a such a blowhard. Nonetheless, no matter what happens, I fear Mr. Pierce will not be wearing a Cs uniform in the future.

If the Celts get the #1 pick would they trade it for the #2 plus a player?

Suppose the Celts get the #1 and promise not to take Durant if they get a player from the team with the #2 who in fact want Durant before Oden. It benefits Ainge not to say who he would take with the #1 pick.

Or how about this: The Celts get the first pick, draft Oden and find out that the reason he looks like he’s 35 is that he’s 34.

I know Big Al is listed as a forward, but in my mind he’s a Center. Perhaps he’s the dominant center of the decade. I also think the combo of Al and Perk (as a unit) could be dominant even though they aren’t getting the hype right now.

If this is true it would concern me a bit. I would also be concerned with him signing with an inexperienced agent, especially the father of a teammate and friend whom he’ll also represent. I know there is history between the two. Some agents have really screwed up some players.
I would really hope that Danny would take Oden first overall… If he did take Durant and traded Pierce I as well would support to fire Ainge
