They ripped my heart out tonight….badly….. I’ll be done till the draft….this really hurts…..in more ways than none…

Granted there are some good players in this draft…
but……….
I don’t know…
This hurts
I am going to go draw a warm bath and sharpen my straight edge. Good luck guys.

There are plenty of fine players in this draft. The draft is not the issue. The issue is we have $40 million of a $62 million payroll tied up in Pierce, Wally, and Ratliff, who are all varying degrees of being past their freshness date. And we just gave an extension to a coach who has never won on any level. All thanks to the most arrogant ownership possibly in Celtics history. Oden and Durant would have helped, but wouldn’t have solved the main problem.
Wouldn’t want to try selling Celtics season tickets now, man.
But hey, look at the bright side. At least this year when Portland has the rookie of the year for the second season in a row, no one can say we gave it to them for a third string point guard with a gun fetish!

I never wanted to say this. But man that seemed fixed. The 2 teams that people talked about “maybe” tanking both got f’d over. If I didn’t know better I would say that was Mr. Stern’s way of saying…“Don’t bother tanking because it won’t work. I’ll see to that” Not that I really believe thats what happen but man Stern couldn’t have asked for it better! I’m truely numb but we must get back up and move on. eeerrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!
Done. See ya, guys, I am done with this league. The fact that there was potential for a horrible injustice was a huge issue for me (see my earlier posts). The fact that it has happened seals the deal. The NBA has lost a fan for life. I just can’t take this sort of heartbreak! The Trailblazers? The Supersonics? Sox, Patriots, and college basketball from now on. Enough.
Tough night but the reality was that there was a 61.3% they were not going to get either 1 or 2 so let’s hope for the best. I like Hibbert – he may be the shot blocker and rebounder they need

Sorry folks, this isn’t rocket science. Watch Stern’s every move since he became commissioner. It’s about the integrity of the NBA. Always has been. Then watch Danny not only hint at tanking, but imply it…after the bizarre extention of Doc. But it was obvious when Paul was benched along with the mysterious “injuries” to Gomes, Delonte and Al. You can’t overtly cheat the fans and the league….and sorry, Milwaukee was close..and paid the price..but nobody so flagrantly did it more than Danny, Wyc, and Doc. Doc is a hideously lousy game coach. But his crunch-time decisions during the last half of the season reeked of tanking…to someone who knows the game a little, like me. Imagine what Stern and the NBA saw.
As much as I hoped I was wrong, Stern did the right thing.
I haven’t felt this bad since they cancelled Perfect Strangers.
Honestly though, this brought me back to the Aaron Boone game.

Usually not into the conspiracy theories, but somehow the three main tankers didnn’t make the top 3. Then other tanking teams Minny and Charlotte also didn’t make the top 3. But somehow 3 non-tanking teams all somehow each beat huge odds and made the top 3. I’d love to hear the odds that not one tanking team would make the top 3 (Mem, Bos, Mil, MIn, Cha). I’ve NEVER thought these things had any remote chance of being fixed, but something doesn’t smell right here. Also (and I know people will disagree with me here) I think that’s Simmons consistent tanking articles on ESPN made this whole tanking thing a phenomenon and may have forced Stern to step in.
All this said, if Durant and Oden are the Melo and Bron of this draft, Brando Wright is the Bosh (he’ll be gone by 5), Yi is the Darko and Conley is the Wade. Even with Rondo, we’ll regret many years down the road passing on Conley.
I’ve said it over and over, the lottery as presently designed is a faulted device in so much that it fails to do the job intended. What has luck to do with reality? The only way a poor team can get better is through a draft system designed to help those teams that need help the most.
The present system doesn’t deter “tanking” but it certainly can add to the misery of being unlucky when it counts most.
Well, we’ve complained in the past that we never get to choose high enough in the draft to get an impact player. Now it’s time to put up or shut up! In a very strong draft there are players other than the coveted TWO who can help us. If ever Danny had to make a tough call, the time is at hand. Trade or no trade, we’re at a crossroads. Phoenix’s extra picks look mighty tempting!

5 means Stern Must Die.
Seriously though, I hate that rotten, miserable pile of crap commissioner.

What are the odds Oden pulls a Stevie Francis?
by GroverTheClover on May 22, 2007 9:08 PM EDT reply actions
Karma is a bich man!
If Brandan Wright somehow falls to #5, I grab him. If not, I go with Conley. If both are gone plus the big 2 of course, I go with Yi despite age question. We were horrible shooting team many games, this guy can score if nothing else- Dirk like player. I know Dirk is out of favor now, but the guy was sniffing a crown a year ago, and helped lead Dallas to the best record of the regular season.
Pierce needs to be moved and we need to rebuild this MFer from the ground up.

Can we please as fans take a pledge to “never, ever, ever” tank a game again? I was on the fire Doc band wagon from the word go but told, “no we need to keep him so we can keep losing and get a better pick”- Karma my friends, Karma!

I don’t buy the conspiracy theories. Stern would be a fool not to want the Celtics, Knicks, and 76ers to do well—these are three of the most loyal and overdue fan bases in the league. The Celtics winning this draft certainly would’ve drawn more hype and ratings than Portland.
Conspiracy or not, though, this is pretty depressing.

Jeff, I think it is time to take down, “if we get Durant, do we trade Pierce” question. It is making me cry. For any of you folks that doubted the Oden or Durant NBA talent, be prepared to weep like a baby for the next ten years.
Portland with Oden/Aldridge/Roy- each of them is only going to make the others that much better. And that non-gun totting Roy already plays like a “smart seasoned” veteran. I will root for the Trailblazers in the West.
I posted several weeks ago, if Danny, Doc and company don’t get out of the box playing 500 ball right away- be prepared for this season to go to hell in a hand basket. No vet help for Pierce, Doc extension, Danny speak, the #5 pick, player(s) admitting we tanked, the groundwork is already there for the hell in a handbasket scenario.

if you think this wasnt rigged your maths sux
remember back to the odds here
http://www.nba.com/celtics/stats/inside-the-numbers/itn042307-draft-lottery-odds.html
portland had 5.33% chance to get #1 (1 in 18.7)
seattle had 9.7% chance to get #2 (1 in 10.3)
atlanta had 13.3% chance to get #3 (1 in 7.5)
memphis had 36% chance to get #4 (1 in 2.77)
boston had 12% chance to get #5 (1 in 8)
milwaukee had 4% chance to get #6 (1 in 25)
this was a 1 in 800,000 lottery
This was fixed for sure!
i second that annoying “WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY”

Are reward for tanking this season. Next season motto should be, win at all cost!
by Meangreen Machine on May 22, 2007 9:47 PM EDT reply actions
Actually, it’s your math that sucks, since you didn’t figure that all those scenarios are co-dependent on each other and thus you cannot calculate the probability as if they were all independent events.
You conspiracy theorists are nuts; Stern would not have fixed the lottery in favor of Portland. He would have fixed it in favor of a larger-market team like Philadelphia, Chicago, the Clippers, or, alas, Boston.

wow, guys, buck up.
conspiracy? are you kidding? good lord, get a hold of yourselves.
you should have prepared for this. the celtics had less than a 40% chance at the top 2, and in this draft the difference between 3-5 really isn’t that big. it’s not the end of the world. drink a sam adams and go to sleep, you’ll feel better in the morning.
Agree with Brickowski on Conley Jr. That being said, welcome to your 2007/8 Celtics team, 7th best in the East and out in the first round. Next year’s draft will be like a 16th pick so we are effectively leaving the dock with the current roster. Hard to believe we will trade our way to success. Only possibility is trading Pierce to rebuild. Would Portland or Seattle move for the 5 and Pierce and Celtics #1 next year?
by Austin Celts Fan on May 22, 2007 10:26 PM EDT reply actions
A bit late coming to the party, but I think you guys put too much stock on the 1st or 2nd pick in terms of getting the celtics back to respectability. Sure, Oden or Durant will be franchise players. But as DA said, we’ll be getting an all-star caliber player. Good enough for me. Realize that the pistons, mavs, suns don’t have Oden or Durant-type of player and they’re perennial contenders.
by celticdude69 on May 22, 2007 11:37 PM EDT reply actions
I realize this will fall on deaf ears but I will try anyway.
Despite the 97 lottery, we still could have had, with the slightest tweaks, on our roster right now: Billups, Johnson, McGrady, Agent Zero, Bynum, etc without sacrificing anyone on the current roster!
we are loaded with talent and any number of things can go wrong with Durant and Oden. We just need to be very smart. DA may be the wrong guy for the job and Doc is 100% certain to be the wrong guy. Those are the real problems. Danny has to come through
I’m sick and tired of waiting for this team to become relevant in the NBA for a prolonged period. What happened to the Luck of this franchise?
This blows.

Still don’t think Stern intervened? While you’re doing all your odds, What are the odds that the bottom 3 teams EACH have the worst case scenario for them. All I can conclude it that Joe Johnson must have had a legitimate injury…and Memphis must have tanked worst than I thought.
Frankly, the Celtics are lucky to get what they got. After the disgraceful performance the last half of the year by team management/coaching to manipulate loss after loss, they deserved a lot closer to Minny’s fate in the Joe Smith debacle.
Stern is such a slimeball. Nobody knows how the balls were weighted. The three teams that didn’t “tank” received the prizes. This was completely fixed, and you cannot point to BAD LUCK. The odds of Milwaukee, Boston, and Memphis not getting at least one of the top 2 picks is astronomical. I’m done with this crap.
by Plixx on May 23, 2007 9:22 AM EDT reply actions
I never said whether it was right or wrong. The fact that Stern is potentially fixing drafts, and punishing teams is disgusting. Right or wrong, the teams that needed help didn’t get it.
