Rusillo’s mock is still poor. Why would the Hawks take Horford when the desperately need a point guard and a center and already have Josh Smith, Marvin Williams, Shelden Williams and the entire cast of Gone With the Wind at power forward?

That’s just one huge problem with his mock, but there are others.

Gerald Green is Grand Marshall of “Hot Dog Safari”? Well, that would explain the way he likes to wear his headband during the games.

Oh, my bad, I see now that it is a benefit for Cystic Fibrosis. I think that is great he is doing that in his offtime, especially for the children. I thought the headline alluded to a different event.

Regarding these mock drafts, everyone is different, and I agree with Brick in that I dont see how the authors of these mocks decide the way they do. Atlanta picking Horford just makes no sense. Alot of the mocks have the Celtics picking Noah, and some picking Green from Georgetown. I guess the one good thing about choosing the latter is that we could also draft Green from Florida, and then put all three Greens on the court at the same time just to mess with the announcers. Maybe we could trade to get Green back from Indiana. Then we just need one more Green to be Green in every sense of the word.

literally, metaphorically, and spiritually Green

I live in Atlanta and the word here is the Hawks will take Conley, Jr. They’re still searching for a point and have been ripped for passing on Chris Paul and Deron Williams when they selected Marvin Williams. They already have Josh Smith and Sheldon Williams, so Horford makes no sense. I think Memphis will take Horford. I think we should take Noah but I realize that’s not a popular pick. I just think Noah can give us the most help right now.

The Celtics should be looking to trade up to #3 to get Conley.

by Brickowski on May 27, 2007 10:54 AM EDT reply actions

I thought no way to Noah for a while, but the more I investigate into this kid, the more I like him. what a team guy. And he seems smart. The celts could use both. I dont see how you necessarily lose picking at 5 the guy everyone was saying would have been picked #1 last year. I mean, all he did is go back to school and play an instrumental role in winning another championship. How do you lose picking this guy?

by jurrasic earl on May 27, 2007 11:09 AM EDT reply actions

What’s the point on making a lottery reform now? Isn’t it too late? I can’t see Philly, NY or Boston in the bottom 3 next year. Memphis? perhaps, but how is that going to help the NBA? The time for the NBA to help itself was May 22, 2007.

by cocofan on May 27, 2007 11:34 AM EDT reply actions

You lose by picking Noah because he can’t shoot, has no post moves and runs aroung like a chicken with its head cut off. Perfect example of a college player whose game will not tra nslate to the NBA.

Plus he’s a power forward, not a center. The Celtics already have a power forward, plus at least two backups (Powe and Scalabrine).

by Brickowski on May 27, 2007 11:37 AM EDT reply actions

Don’t want to beat a dead horse but if the Cs are planning to keep their pick, then a wing is what I think we need. And in case some think we have enough wings, think about this 1)Wally/GG can’t guard a chair or break down defenders 2)TA might not be back 100% 3)Is PP going to have linguering elbow and foot issues from now on?

by cocofan on May 27, 2007 12:06 PM EDT reply actions

Oh wow, this is from the MVN piece on Conley, I couldn’t stop laughing.

“Seattle, Atlanta, and Boston could all use a true point guard; however my opinion is that Boston would be the best fit. Imagine Conley and Pierce feeding the ball to each other and then finding Brian Scalabrine under the hoop, or Conley passing it off to Pierce who then drives to the hoop.”

We draft Noah because we need someone to do the dirty work. All good teams have a guy like him. We have Jefferson for post moves and scoring. We need someone to defend, alter shots, bang bodies and run the floor.

You don’t waste a #5 pick on an unskilled hustle player.

by Brickowski on May 27, 2007 2:40 PM EDT reply actions

that’s correct. You waste it on an unknown chinese player ;D

I really hope they get Brewer.

by jurrasic earl on May 27, 2007 2:52 PM EDT reply actions

Rebounding and defense are not skills? Wow!! The C’s could use more guys like Noah period. Then their defense wouldn’t be so soft. And they might get some more wins. Oh wait, I forgot, we don’t want more wins. We want to go back into the next three lotteries, hoping and praying we can get a top three pick to rebuild our franchise!

You use it in a blue chip point guard and trade Rondo to a team like Atlanta or Denver to get frontcourt help. Unfortunately Ainge is too enamored of Rondo to do something that sensible.

by Brickowski on May 27, 2007 3:16 PM EDT reply actions

What frontcourt help do you want from those two teams? Camby? Who from Atlanta? Teams are not going to give up a big for a small. Even with Denver needing some payroll relief they will not give Camby away. Atlanta has what to offer in the way of a big? Just draft the big and keep Rondo.

by celty86 on May 27, 2007 4:36 PM EDT reply actions

Well, draft day will certainly be interesting. I just wonder who will be there and who the Celts will let slide on by. If Conley is there do they have the guts not to take him? He seems to be Chris Paul caliber. I am not sure how you pass that up, Rondo or no Rondo. If Rondo is as good as people think he may be, than what can it hurt holding on to him, I mean, good point guards are like pitchers, you cant have too many good pitchers. They are always in demand. I think Conley or Brewer. I am not sure about Yi. All I see on the web are three second clips of him dunking. He does have a nice looking shot. Who knows. As I mentioned before, I think Brewer is a safe pick, safer than Noah.

by jurrasic earl on May 27, 2007 6:32 PM EDT reply actions

I can live with Brewer. We need to improve our defense whether through the draft or trade.

by celty86 on May 27, 2007 11:19 PM EDT reply actions

With Noah, you need the NBA equivalent of college players: Hoford, Brewer, etc. We don’t have any thing close, Noah will disappoint us or whoever get him. Noah needs to be in a system like the Suns, Mavs, Pistons, where he is a cog in the wheel. Noah is a dreadful pick for us.

On Brewer, where is he going to get his minutes. I like him and if Wally retired, Pierce moved on, I would take Brewer, but the kid isn’t going to get minutes because that’s what Doc does to rookies and he is going to be a sub, rotating behind: West, Pierce, Wally, Allen, Green and Gomes. Brewer will get 12 minutes a game and we will be biching and moaning as Doc tells us he has to “earn” those minutes. And after that happens, over 1/3 of the bloggers will be saying Doc’s doing a fine job and deserving of the extension.

Been there, done that as far as youngsters not getting adequate minutes under Doc, happened to our #1 pick last year in Rondo when every body and their sister knew he was the better player over Telfair, before Doc finally figured it out too.

by bceltfan on May 28, 2007 12:51 AM EDT reply actions

bceltfan, I understand what you’re saying except that this year will be different than last as Doc must know that he’s on his last legs, extension or not. He will need wins to keep his job, something he should have been trying for the last couple of seasons, but that’s another story. I would see him playing whoever gets him results this year with complete backing by Ainge. So Brewer may play more than you think if he’s up to the task.

by celty86 on May 28, 2007 9:32 AM EDT reply actions

Celty 86, I see what you’re saying too and I respect your opinion. I think Brewer will be a good pro. What I’m concerned about is, you and I know both know Brewer deserves the minutes over Wally, but I don’t think Doc honestly will until about half way through the season.

Doc is notorious for finding fault with the players, saying the youngsters have to earn it, giving veterans the lion share of the minutes, etc. Wally limping around will see 18 minutes a game while Brewer will get less than 15. Scal will also get more minutes than Brewer. This shouldn’t happen but it will if we take Brewer.

Danny will be supportive of Doc’s playing time distributions as sited above too.
