-1st round outcoached, by RCarlisle, exit (Boston)vs Indiana

-preference not to guard the inbound pass

Interesting difference between college and the pros. In college, due to recruiting, jobs are filled very fast. Some of the pro teams let it linger- hopefully to get the right guy. They don’t have to ‘recruit’ until the free agents become available.
I’m still surprise Indy took O’Brien. As someone else noted, he’s too much like Rick- slow it down, play D, lull them to sleep… (unfortunately that includes the fan base).
Remember that the Pacers made it to the NBA finals playing Dick Harter’s defensive schemes when Harter was one of Larry Bird’s assistant coaches.
Obie is the kind of coach who will get a bad team to ovrachieve, but who will never bring out the best in a good team. Right now, that’s a good fit for the Pacers.
We did overachieved with Obie. One thing is for sure, Doc’s is going to get outcoached if the Cs face Indiana in the playoffs. Doc’s lack of understanding on how to beat DHarter defensive scheme makes it a given. I remember how JSloan, RAderman and BScott used to shred it to pieces. Dick’s schemes are really geared to stop penetration while leaving the elbow 18ftr wide open. That being said, Obie fits Indiana personel. But teams like Chicago(drive and kick) will have a party against the Pacers…..
I’m really stunned about Donovan…I am a Tampa, FL native and I didn’t see this coming. The local papers down here pretty much stated repeatedly that he was staying at Florida, but for some reason (of which we now know) he hadn’t signed his extension. I think he’s making a huge mistake…when will these guys learn from Pitino’s debacle?
Hey would anyone want Rick Carlisle would take an assistant job here? I would love for that and then take over when Doc is over… Rick was a Celtic wasn’t he?

I was thinking the same thing. He was drafted by the Celtics in 84 and played for the celtics for a few years. I believe Bird thought he had a terrific basketball mind when they played together and the Larry hired him to coach. I thought he was a very smart player and saw things on the court that most did not see. He played in Maine then Univ. VA they had a great team.
