I hope the Knicks get the 33 year old KG but with a huge salary LT attached. They have basically overpaid for everyone else so why not an aging KG as well. Sure KG “could” provide a legtimate scoring and rebounding star for them, but at his NBA age injuries are almost certain to be around the corner and decreased production.
If you are New York how much do you finacially mortgage the franchise, including future draft picks, to try and “buy” a championship? Isiah seems to be trying to BUY a ring as opposed to earning one through building.
Starbury, Francis, Q Richardson and Garnett in 2008 (only 4 players) would make 70.3 million in one year. And as good as KG is, they still they can’t win a ring with those 4 to start with. I hope the other 8 players are really good – and really cheap.
Yeah go ahead Isiah and get out that checkbook and spend it like it was your own money – hahahaha.
Peace
Too funny. This is the trade that Newsday thinks the Knicks could make for KG? :D
Here is how it would work: The Timberwolves need first-round picks, because they still owe one to the Clippers (top-10 protected) and another to the Celtics from previous deals. The Knicks could make the argument that they’ve already signed their No. 1 pick, Randolph Morris, and thus include their 23rd selection in a package for Garnett.
The Knicks then could offer a scoring big man (Channing Frye, $2.49 million), a clutch-shooting guard (Jamal Crawford, $7.92 million), a 6-11 forward who can defend three positions (Jared Jeffries, $5.6 million) and a veteran whose contract expires after the 2008-09 season (Malik Rose, $7.1 million). The salaries would just about match up, give or take a throw-in going back to the Knicks.
Fat chance. Even Kevin McHale isn’t that stupid.
Hey Brick, the Newsday deal is no bigger a rip off for Garnett than anything the Lakers could offer. It might be a bit better. Tyson Chandler had a really good year. Aren’t you the one that keeps saying that Garnett can go anywhere he wants because of his opt out clause? New York is a huge market and gaurenteed to give him more exposure and more endorsement money. I gaurentee you his shoe deal would at least double if he went to New York from Minnisota. Also, he would be the star in New York and not have to deal with Kobe’s ego. Why not the Knicks?

KG lives in Malibu in the offseason. And frankly, the Lakers can put a much better offer on the table, starting with Lamar Odom and Kwame Brown’s 9 million-dollar expiring contract. (Malik Rose has 2 more years.) Odom is better than Jared Jeffries and Channing Frye put together, plus the Lakers could sweeten the deal with a higher pick (#19 as opposed to #23) plus players like Andrew Bynum, Luke Walton, Rony Turiaf and Jordan Farmar.
NY can’t come close to matching the Lakers’ offer. This is just BS from some NY homer small-time journalist who doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
You think Crawford Frye Jeffries Malik Rose #23 is a better offer than, say, Lamar Odom Kwame (expiring) Andrew Bynum #19, and probably sending a contract back to LA?
Odom is the best player listed, and Bynum has the most potential. The Lakers offer is also significantly better financially.
EDIT: What Brick said.
And why would McHale do this trade? Oh right, he wouldn’t

Maybe Brick can broker a three-way deal with LA, Knicks and Sac and the good citizen Ron “Starve my Dog” Artest.
Brick also says:
plus the Lakers could sweeten the deal with a higher pick (#19 as opposed to #23) plus players like Andrew Bynum, Luke Walton, Rony Turiaf and Jordan Farmar."
your conjecture to me seems just as silly as the NY deal …….
If I were the Lakers I wouldn’t think about giving up Bynum and Luke Walton, a #19 draft pick and other stuff to get a 33 year old KG ….and so what if KG spends the off-season in Malibu ???? So.
Brick,
You totally overvalue Odom. I told you this the other day. Look at the stats. Odon has about the same career as Wally; injury prone with occasional flashes of lower all-stardom. On top of that he is a headcase who shows up to play only when the phases of the moon are right.
