Probably a stupid question; when is the draft?

Caveman Doc, the draft is in 27 days, 0 hours, 54 min., 12 seconds, and counting as we speak…

I have my fingers crossed that whoever we draft schools Baby Face Oden.

“Under the Uniform Player Contract and the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NBA and the Players Association, the Team cannot require players to participate in any summer league.” It’s the same for a rookie.
Yi will have a busy summer due to his commitment to the Chinese National Team. It’s their schedule from July to September:
7/6-7/15 Summer League (at Las Vegas)
7/28-8/6 2007 Stankovic Continental Champions Cup (in China)
(Five teams will attend: China, Slovenia, Venezuela, New Zealand, Angola)
8/15-8/31 European tour (in Germany and Turkey)
9/10-9/22 A tournament in China (some NCAA basketball teams will participate in)

Heres an idea, why dont they just have the Celtics alternate games against Portland and Seattle until we all die a painfully slow, excruciating death. That would be best for everyone.
As a side note, Im beginning to lean towards the “give them whatever they want, just get oden or durant” side of things. I really can’t stomach to see a photo of either one or hear their words without thinking that they should be with us.

I’ve got that Friday game with Bucks circled. That’ll be a barn burner.

I believe we’ll see many veterans traded this summer but I seriously doubt that we’ll be involved. Other teams seem to have pieces more desirable than what we’re offering. PGs are always being sought but we’re keeping Rondo and West doesn’t really have a true position at 6’3".
It seems obvious that Yi, if available, will be our pick (for basketball reasons as well as marketing reasons) and if he’s not available, we may trade down. We like Thornton who’s been compared to Shawn Marion for athleticism and to Durant for his outside/inside game. We also are targeting an inside shot blocker/rebounder with size and athleticism (ala Ratliff). Should Sean Williams be gone, we may look for a back-PG or another promising big.
There has been speculation that we’ll bring some European bigs too so with or without Yi’s attendance in Vegas, there should be some interest.

bring portland on.. we will beat them to s pulp.
they burned us last year in the draft then they got
us again this year as espn mike and mike said,
the league needed to help three teams portland
5% chance to win it all seattle about the same to
get Durant and Atlanta in the gateway to the south
needs lots of help in this league. they said what are
the odds of these three teams going 1-2-3 and the 1-2-3
seated odds favorite not even placing a top 3 and
what a message it sends about tanking. i dont buy their
argument but it did make me think.. anyways portland
is definrtly on my sh&*% list
Hey Perk, I like Portland and think they shouldn’t be on anybody’s s*** list. Look, they lucked out on the lottery, so good for them. I liked them in the mid 70s with Bill Walton and their championship season with verse the 76ers. A lot of fans hate us because we have 16 banners. For many it is hilarious that we only got the #5 pick.
Portland “schooled” Danny last year on the draft. They have been a miserable franchise and have tried to turn things around. I admire them for doing it the right way without “tanking” and cleaning up all the problem athletes that they have had over the years.
I don’t see us winning an NBA championship in the next 5 years, so for me I just as soon Portland with Oden,Aldridge,Roy, etc win a few rather than the Lakers, Spurs, Suns, Mavs, Pistons, Heat, Bulls, etc.
Celtics are always #1, but go Trailblazers anyway.

I’m going to be there for the second year in a row. I had a great time last year until I ate bad oysters at the Venetian for lunch my last day.
If any C’s fan is interested in getting together with a west coast transplant to watch the games, or commiserate with drinks and Video poker afterwards, let me know.
The Cox Pavilion is great for the die hard fan. Rub elbows, eat hot dogs, drink beer and watch Telfair sink 3-pter’s like nothing.
He was a god last year. I really had great hope for the year, but that was a long time ago and a new Summer League is here to make me forgetaboutit.

bceltfan, yeah i have Portland on my sh%$* list but there not like the Lakers
or the bad boy pistons , there more a token member who will probably come off
sort of like the spurs after the Duncan debacle.
Its more of a franchise turning event that i wanted the celts to have, and some
team who wasnt even on the radar gets to be playoff feared for the next generation
with aldridge and durant . i wanted it to be al jefferson and durant and im not
quite over it yet. but yeah Portland will rock and beat the lakers so thats cool
There’s an old saying…“it’s not over until the fat lady sings”….There is no guarantee that Portland will be successful. Look what happened to Dallas in the playoffs. Who could predict that Ceveland would dominate the Pistons?…What happened to Phoenix?
We lost an important piece to the puzzle (Oden) but there are other pieces that could work just as well. Everyone seems to think that Oden will be like Bill Russell…isn’t likely!
Without the infusion of another coaching assistant….one with bonofide teaching credentials showing achievement above the median…this team will remain in LIMBO!
Great coaches either know everything and can communicate everything (a rare coach) or they have the ability to assemble the kind of coaching staff that has a cumulative contribution equivalent to that rare HEAD COACH!

dont forget that Danny is from Oregon. And it is interesting how conveniently the three organizations legitimately in the most trouble received a top three pick. If Atlanta didnt get a top three pick, the pick went to the Suns. We all know that this scenario needed “governmental interferance”, not unlike antitrust regulation. The NBA couldnt stand by and watch the rich get richer. I truly believe the lottery is as fixed as that lottery in the end of the movie version of Starsky & Hutch. It is interesting that Memphis got screwed, but Memphis with a healthy Gasol and an experienced Rudy Gay will be OK. Also, one cannot deny how much marketing plays into decision making. Think about the Sebastian Telfair trade. What is revealing is the fact the Celtics had a prominent commercial spot featuring Sebastian (“Telfair night”) before he proved anything to the team. Now, Jarret Jack was ranked higher on the Blazers team, and for all practical purposes looked to be the better point guard. Why didnt the Celtics trade the Rookie of the Year for him instead? Because the management simply couldnt picture placing him in a commercial where he sits in front of a cardboard cutout of lucky and expresses his belief that we should have a big “Jarret Jack night at the Garben”. People wouldnt get that, which makes no sense because he is the better player.

This is off topic—-Cedric Maxwell is being honored by the New England Sports Museum on Monday. We all talk of the “Big Three”, but I and, I’d bet others’ forget that Max was a big part of that team. Maybe we should call them the “Big Four” or “Big Four and 1/2” (remembering Bill Walton’s contribution in ’86).
Off topic again—Today’s Herald says that Chris Wallace may get the Memphis GM job and that if he does Leo Papile may go with him. This could possibly be a bigger problem than the C’s assistant coach thing. Papile is a great judge of talent and knows just about every player in the world (exaggeration). He is deeply involved in the draft process.
I don’t work for the Celtic’s but I do attempt to “read between the lines” when draft articles amd comments are made. I watch behavior…as in Danny making 3 tedious trips to China to try to gain insight about Danny’s level of interest in Yi as a player….ditto about his comments about Al Thornton…a relative unknown to me until Mike Gorman mentioned that Danny really likes this kid.
I also try to do an independent investigation into other critic’s comments about these same players.
To tell the truth, I don’t have a clue what the Celtic’s will do on draft day since the situation changes with player/trade updates. I would be very pleased with the Celtic’s drafting either Yi or Thornton if a Sean Williams type player fell to us at 32. Like many bloggers and GMs I’m curious about the skill level of Jared Jordan and if his lack of upper echelon athleticism will dampen his NBA potential. In some respects he is the most “polished” PG in the draft. In other respects there is a curiosity about his ability to shoot and defend at the next level. Predraft workouts are critical for his future. He could be another John Stockton (on a team that had another Carl Malone), or another player best suited to European basketball.

Celty86 again! We’ll get a better feel for how Brewer compares to Al Thornton and How they both compare to Wright (Kansas) because all three are scheduled to go head-to-head at the NBA draft workout.
