About That Server (Part II)
The quick update is this: We plan on moving to a fully operational virtual dedicated server in the next week or so (and no later than draft day) which will put a stop to the CPU quota errors and give us plenty of room to grow.
We are lobbying hard for the current server company to give us some relief from the constant crashes but the traffic is just too much for little ol BlueHost to handle. Actually they aren't that little, they can handle most websites, but we had over 23 million hits in May.
Thanks for your patience and I'm very sorry for the inconvenience. Believe me, I am more frustrated than anyone. I think this says it best.

Thank you for all you do to fill a huge need on the internet for those of us who just can’t get enough Celtics. Celtics Blog is very special to a lot of people and that is largely because of your efforts (with some help from Bob). You are very special! I can’t wait for the new server!

23 million hits???…. If the CPU can’t count, it could explain why it feels so OVERWORKED!

I think 23 million hits actually means 23 million mouse clicks on links. At least according to the last explanation of why the server was going down. Assume each person clicks on average 1000 times during a month. Then it’s 23,000 users which seems like an order of magnitude too much. Maybe there are more clicks per person or there are many unregistered guests.

“We figured Jeff would jump at the chance to embrace the no-excuses mantra. We were wrong.
No. I donâ€â"¢t think you can just say the server is ready,†Jeff said. â€Å"Iâ€â"¢m realistic. If our server is ready to stop giving CPU quote errors, weâ€â"¢ll win. If it’s not and the server needs another year, then we need another year. Thereâ€â"¢s no years on it. Thatâ€â"¢s such idiotic stuff. You just donâ€â"¢t know when itâ€â"¢s going to stop giving CPU quota errors, or if itâ€â"¢s going to come together.”

BlueHost needs to get out of the SERVER business if this is the best that they can do….Considering the growing popularity of this web site and the atrocious performance of “BlueHost” as server, I’m now wondering if this mess was orchestrated as a means of sabotaging this site? Jeff, do you have such envious enemies?

23 million ? imagine how many it would be if:
A) the celtics had a winning record AND
B) this wasnt an incredible down period for the NBA following the lottery, before the draft, no free agency, no summer hoop, two games a week.
Its a tribute to this well run website, I hope that it doesnt happen often Ive been reduced to doing work and interacting socially with others over the last couple days.
