Blogging On Paper
I've been recruited to do some freelance writing for The Metro newspaper. If you want to see my latest article titled "Deal or No Deal" (or at least it was titled that before they made some small changes) head over to the Metro's new website and check it out.
You have to keep in mind that the target audience is a different sort. You folks that are here in the middle of June with the team months removed from playing and fallen short of lottery dreams are the die hardest of the die hards. The audience that I wrote to in that article was a broader range of sports fans that may not know Orien Greene from Allan Ray. So you'll forgive me if at times in those articles I spell things out Marty Burns style.
Another note on this, I was delighted to see my name show up in the Boston Sports Media Watch daily rundown of articles (right between Mark Murphy and Jackie MacMullan). It occured to me that the blending and blurring of old media and traditional media is being played out in my own person.
It seems that traditional print media is falling back to the pack and trying every which way to capture the "buzz" of new media (mostly by trying out this "blogging" thing as best they can). I have more thoughts on this matter but little time, but I thought I'd open it up to discussion as a change of pace from the rumors and draft talk.

Yeah Mowtown, I too remember when “Sir Rants Alot” was just a nobody like the rest of us in the old Globe chat.
Now I bet old Mr. Big Fancy Pants will soon want a “fee” for just occasionally appearing on his own blog. ;D
And I still sit in the back of the cab saying: “I coulda been a contnder, I coulda been somebody” (Hell, I only lacked two things Jeff had – talent and effort).
Seriously Jeff is my boy and his effort/talent/tenacity these past years is really quite remarkable. Congrats on your recognition!
And to think I used to bring this guy drinks on the “plane to nowhere” (Stewardess Po) when he was a scratching out stories on a Big Chief tablet and box of 8 crayons.
Of course $50 bucks is in it for you (big money) if the words “Master Po” appear in any Metro story NOT followed by the words suck, blows, or clueless.
Drinks?
;D
Congrats from Po
Congrats, Jeff.
Well written. Have you seen any of Jianlian’s workouts?
I have one question, though. Do you really think the three biggest tankers getting their worst case scenario in the draft was “bad luck”?
I fear the blockbuster trade because until we have a coach who cares about defense can actually make coherent game decisions, it really doesn’t matter who we get.
I don’t think it’d be hard to sell fans on another rebuilding year if it looked like we were turning a corner instead of going backwards.
If we are to believe what Danny tells us….that the league where Yi played in China is slightly BETTER than college basketball, and if Yi excelled there, why the concern?
What little I’ve seen of their brand of basketball it seems more like rugby than basketball. I doubt that Yi will be intimidated by the NBA which, by comparison, is like football….or perhaps it’s the other way around????
