Bits And Pieces
From time to time I have so much going on that the managing of it takes up all my time and I forget about blogging for a couple of days. Of course, that never lasts long since I have a never ending need to purge words from my fingers and an insatiable want to gather and share Celtics news. So, now that it’s been a couple of days since I’ve been able to actually write, here’s my effort to kinda catch up. (random thoughts after the jump)
Spurs
So, when do the Finals start? What’s that? It’s over already? Why didn’t anyone wake me?
Seriously though, I’m one of the millions of sports fans that just didn’t bother watching much of the Finals. I know it was King James and the Dynasty Spurs and all that, but I just didn’t care. I enjoyed the first round a lot more than I expected, I liked the 2nd round quite a bit, but the conference finals were kinda meh, and I only caught bits and pieces of the first couple of Finals games. There didn’t seem to be any need to watch games 3 and 4 and now it is over.
That’s weird to think that basketball is over for the next several months. Seemed pretty anticlimactic to me. I think I’ll care a lot more when we are in the playoffs next year. You heard me. Playoffs.
Kobe
Ok, so Kobe still wants out of Los Angeles. The folks at ESPN are working themselves back up in a froth trying to get him traded to an Eastern Conference team. They even bring up the Celtics from time to time. I’m still not going to bother trying to figure that one out because it is never going to happen. I still don’t think he’ll get traded, and if he does he’ll want to go somewhere where they can win the title within two years like Shaq did. Poor spoiled rich kid. If he had just gotten along with Shaq, he could have easily convinced the Buss family to pay up to keep him in town and he wouldn’t have to be pissing and moaning now. I wish he would go away and I don’t really care to think up crazy trade ideas to get him here.
Celtics Thug
Speaking of crazy trade ideas, what an amusing week it was last week on RealGM. With all the server issues on this site, it was a welcome distraction. I admit the guy had me going for a bit. And I guess I still can’t say I’m 100% sure he wasn’t telling some version of the truth. But when he posted something with "Ryen" Gomes writing to say hi to everyone, that’s when I decided I had enough. I don’t care how fast he’s typing, there’s no way the articulate Mr. Gomes is going to misspell his own name.
What makes it even funnier is that the day after Thug wrote about Rashard Lewis being friends with Gerald Green and wanting to come to Boston only if he was not part of the deal, there was the exact same story in the Globe. Now, if the story was true, then the guy may have been telling the truth. However, if it wasn’t, where exactly did Shira Springer get that story? I’m willing to give her the benefit of the doubt that some team executive read or heard that rumor and told Shira about it. In that case, she’s just quoting a source. Of course, not everyone is going to give her that benefit of the doubt.
I could go on about the 100 different ways that saga was so funny, but I think I’ll just leave it alone. Celtics Thug goes down with CROTOR and "literally shaking with excitement" in the annals of Internet legend.
That’s about all I’ve got on my mind. I now return you to your daily trade rumors and reports from draft workouts.

i just can’t wait until the draft
jeff, keep me entertained with some rumours though. i’ve scoured the internet for a gerald wallace rumour, to no avail. the best i can find is rashard, johnson and marion. is this the best we can attract?
one last thing, i’ll never forgive david stern for this lottery. we all know those balls should have rolled in our direction. he makes me sick.
i’m happy if we get yi though!
How can anyone call themselves a NBA fan and not watch the finals. The Spurs are a great team and a joy to watch.

Jeff, I really feel the Chad Ford trade proposal involving Kobe going to Chicago, Pierce going to LA, and Tyrus Thomas going to Boston, is worth serious discussion. Seems like the stars are aligned for a fleeting moment to maximize trade value for Pierce. Thomas would be a great starting 4 for the Celtics, shifting our focus to defense and shot blocking. Hope you give it a separate post here.
Jeff. I already sent an e-mail to Shira about it and she responded. She asked me to keep it private (she doesn’t want to be quoted on a bunch of blogs). I’d be happy to e-mail it to you for your info. A lot of people on the forums are questioning it right now. It might not be teh best idea to feed the flames. To sum up what she told me: She doesn’t get her info from message boards. She talks to GM’s, agents and players on a daily basis. She heard it from someone within the league and presented it as nothing more than speculation…
Shira is the one and only one, that has reported the details of Doc Rivers’ extension as having been much less than the initial reports.
She also was the one to question the Celtics’ version of the Al Jefferson injury and print the interview with Al that revealed the bone chips.
“A big hand for the little lady” in my house.
She’s articulate, intensely involved and not afraid to break a story that goes against the wishes of the team.
I don’t understand why there is animosity towards her.
Jeff, are you telling me that you’ve never left a typo past your first draft?
I want more evidence before I write off “Celtics Thug.”

There was a guy on RealGM a couple of years ago (if memory serves, his monniker was “malle40” or something like that) who said he had inside information that Pierce had been offered to Portland for the #3 pick and Nick Van Exel’s nonguaranteed contract. He was shouted down and everyone wanted him banned for spreading misinformation.
A few months later we learned that the “misinformation” was 100% correct. So you never know.
I want more evidence before I write off “Celtics Thug.”
How about when he admitted to lying about several things? I’m not sure if you got a chance to read the threads before the RealGm mods deleted them, but the guy totally got flustered and jumped the proverbial shark, and eventually came up with some lame excuse about how he had to lie at the request of his employers. Lame. It still shocks me that some people think this guy was legitimate.
Breaking news: the Celtics are having trade discussions about Jermaine O’Neal, Kevin Garnett, and Pau Gasol. Now, when those rumors are later reported in the paper, you can quote my sage predictions.
The finals may not have been as competitive as some would have liked, but if you’re an NBA fan it would seem there should be interest. Since the Spurs have been my “other” favorite team since the ABA days of George Gervin, Johnnie Moore, and James Silas (now there was a terrific backcourt), I was ecstatic over the outcome, especially since Bruce Bowen did a number on LeBron, exposing him as mortal after all.
Of course, most of the media chose to blame James’ teammates for his shortcomings. Those same teammates were good enough to win the Eastern Conference title, but that was conveniently forgotten in taking care not to rub any luster off LeBron.
I’m rooting for three more titles for the Spurs. By then, hopefully, as Duncan nears retirement the Celtics will be contending for banner #17.

Jeff, you want to distance yourself from Kobe rumors but have instead brought him home to us by referencing him in this blog….to what purpose?
….. one apparent “fall-out” from a possible Kobe trade will be to eliminate one possible suitor to the sweepstakes concerning O’Neal, Gasol, Johnson, Garnett etc. availability to us. That would be newsworthy from a completely different perspective….Kobe’s trade could improve our own chances for a desirable trade…
Perhaps there was a “reluctant” justification for your inclusion of a Kobe update???

Jeff, you obviously don’t have to “justify” anything that you want to write but the tenor of your input on Kobe sounded like you strongly dislike him (in general) and even hate to hear his name mentioned (in particular)….
That sounded like you wanted to DISTANCE yourself from his very person (which seems reasonable) but at the same time at variance with your choosing to write about him. I thus felt that …perhaps… you wrote about him NOT because you actually wanted to highlight him but because a potential Kobe trade could favorably impact a later Celtic trade (by eliminating a potential suitor for a player we liked). I agree with you entirely that his likely destination isn’t to Boston.
The “justification” which you so strongly objected to wasn’t meant literally but rather figuratively as explained above. Sorry to have unintentionally “rattled your cage” as it was not my intent to do so. I obviously read too much into your ramblings.

Apparently Kobe is “at it” again, strongly hinting on his website that a trade might be the best thing for everyone concerned (meaning him). That would put the Lakers in a tough spot. It’s very hard to get adequate compensation for a superstar. The salary cap limits many teams that might want to work a deal. Also, it makes little sense to give up your best players in trade as you’d wind up with Kobe and no help. For Iverson, the Sixers got Andre Miller and draft picks. Not bad but not really fair value for a hall-of-fame candidate.
Kobe is the best non-big player in the league (sorry, LeBroom) but at some point you have to wonder if Jerry Buss will get fed up with his me-first attitude.

" I do not make that trade a guy who is 31 for a 22 year old guy making one tenth the salary. While Garnett is good he has never elevated his team in the playoffs. That is usually a sign of greatness. See MJ vs Celtics. While MJ LOST he did elevate his team.
I trade PP way before a big low post scorer. Big guys who can play down low are not easy to find wing players are very easy to find. That being said Minny would not take PP so no trade with Minny."
Amen!!!!!!!

Hopefully something happens soon because the repetitive nature of forums topics is driving me insane.
