Wallace Very Close To Getting Griz Gig
According to WCVB in Boston, a source close to Celtics' Executive Director of Basketball Operations, Danny Ainge, the Grizzlies are very close to hiring Chris Wallace as their next GM.
A deal has not been finalized nor has an agreement been reached to hire Wallace, who is currently the Celtics' General Manager, however, the two parties are in negotiations.
According to the source, an announcement could come as early as Monday.
For those that didn't notice, David Blatt signed with Efes Pilsen last week.

I hope the celtics get some sort of compensation out of this deal. Miami got a second round pick from Orlando for letting Van Gundy take the Head Coaching job.

Who cares…
What are we going to do with Wally this year? Does anyone really want him to play? Will he expect to start?

While Wallace seems to be the focal point of this article, I was disappointed to see that Blatt will no longer be available to us. I’m now resigned to believe that the coming year will be another disaster since management apparently doesn’t have a clue what went wrong last year.
Oh, I realize that injuries had a major bearing on our season outcome but I also realize that the absence of quality coaching shared part of the blame. Now that the Oden sweepstakes turned out badly for us it’s time to look elsewhere to identify other “shortcomings” in our team. Unfortunately, unless Ainge finds a REAL coaching/teaching talent to join our coaching staff it will be another underachieving team.
While underproductive players share the bulk of the guilt, until management recognizes that quality coaching is also a necessary ingredient for success we’re doomed!

Let’s not bring up a compensatory pick regarding Wallace-we may have to give one up to be rid of him. Vin Baker, Kedrick Brown, Joe Forte, trading Joe Johnson for essentially a half season rental, Antoine Part II…can anyone name a good move Wallace made?

What is the difference between “Executive Director of Basketball Operations” (Danny’s title) and General Manager of Basketball Operations (Wallace title) in all reality?
Manager and Assistant Manager at 7-Eleven is comparable? One guy fills the slurpee machine, and the other guy tells him when it’s empty again?
It seems a bit duplicative to me.
Doc…… clean-up on Aisle 2
these two teams need to stop talking about trades.. minnesota is terrible and boston is terrible. We made a trade and ended up with half your team in the wally deal. I dont want any more celtics. Boston has good young talent and KG isnt going to take them over the top.
Not to mention KG would probably have to Agree to the trade and i dont think BOSTON is a place he wants to go. him and PP wont win a championship.
KG does not hit the big shot and he does not take the game over enough. even though im from minnesota. i say trade him. but not to boston

Wow what a drop off for Memphis in the GM’s office
Jerry West > Chris Wallace

Wallace going to Memphis may just be a lateral move in reality. Because of their reported “tight” relationship, West may continue to call the shots (as a trusted consultant) in absentia.
Wallace can’t be faulted for all the past trades because most of them were dictated by others in the organization. The Vin Baker debacle was just an example of the Celtic’s failing to investigate before committing to the trade. Let’s hope that history won’t repeat with Sean Williams….a very talented “egghead”!
