Eric—
Thanks for the superb analysis. I think the Celtics should be patient and realize we negotiate from a position of strength. Minnesota is a mess and they are desperate. They have four contracts of substance for worthless players that extend three or four more years. Garnett loses value as the trade deadline approaches. Once Minnesota trades Garnett it is going into full rebuild mode, several years outside the playoffs. The Cs can offer multiple future no. 1 picks and have the ability to take back bad contracts like Jaric and Hudson. No one else can do that. We can let Minnesota get under the cap as soon as 2009 and be well under by 2010. We can possibly get Garnett and keep Al and the 2007 no. 1 pick. If not, we should have the courage to walk away from the table. We can revisit the situation or others before the trade deadline.

Great read. I would love to have a competitive playoff team this coming season, although I wouldn’t do this trade. We have the pieces in place, now just use Theo and perhaps GG to land a complimentary veteran to our playoff-bound squad.
Keep the #5!!!

agree w/ Motown … don’t trade Al Jefferson. He is the present and the future.
