is anybody else coming to the conclusion that, despite all the speculation and rumors, not a damn thing is going to happen between now and the draft?

Nick Young? Maybe we’re getting one of PHX’s picks along with Marion. I didn’t think he’d drop down that far though

The Nick Young info is the most interesting of the three pieces. It implies a deal with some team in the teens —with the exception of LA (pick #19) none of the other teams have been mentioned in trade talks. I suspect this means that we will start hearing other (new) rumors in the next 48 hours.
BTW, is anyone surprised by the lack of Pau Gasol rumors?
Totally, I would think that Pau Gasol for the #5 Theo’s would be a viable option

Ahhhhh little Kool-aid-er’s. The end is nigh.

Hmmm 24 and 32 could get you up to select Young.
Maybe the 5 and 32 for the 24 and next year’s Atl #1 are being discussed!
Darnit Katz, don’t alter my Marion to Boston dream!
by HOOPS! on Jun 26, 2007 3:04 PM EDT reply actions
Or maybe it’s just the 5 Theo for Marion and the 24…which would give us the 32 and 24 to move up…8)
Like that much better… ;D

wheres the link for the Katz report? and I too am surprised that Gasol rumors aren’t out there.

I can understand Minny not thinking they wouldn’t be getting enough from a LA only deal. But, if they’re balking because they don’t want to deal KG to the West, they’re legitimately morons. Why is that a big deal again? Because KG and Kobe are going to win a championship together? oh wait, that’s not going to happen since the Lakers wouldn’t be better than the Suns, Spurs, or Mavs, and probably not even the Jazz [this is why Kobe wanted to be dealt to the East, because he saw Lebron and thought "hey, I can do that too if I don’t have to go through all these other teams].
So, lets see: if you did the rebuilt Chad Ford trade you can saddle the Lakers with a huge contract, see them not do that much better, and get a chance to instantly rebuild around three top ten picks [Foye, two lotto picks] and whatever your 20 million in expiring contracts can get you…or you can stand pat, get worse, and have to rebuild from a position of weakness.
Yeah, I’m with you Taylors, the second idea sounds great!
Anyway, I was fairly sure nothing was going to happen anyways because big deals like this are so rare. GMs don’t want it on their records if something like that goes sour.

this may be an unpopular opinion here, but i say trade whatever you gotta trade to get KG. sure, try and hold out to keep jefferson or the #5, but ultimately, get a deal done. it obviously ain’t working as currently composed. i’d rather hold on to a good piece like pierce than start over from scratch. i know the traditional thinking is with wiping the slate clean and dealing pierce to truly rebuild, but i’ve had enough nba irrelevance. gimme KG and a few shots at the eastern conference crown and longshots at the championship. yes… do this deal danny!

I want a trade. I want Garnett, Marion, O’Neal, or Gasol. This team needs another star, and anyone outside of Al and PP is up for grabs. Just do it Danny.
by Womialas on Jun 26, 2007 3:46 PM EDT reply actions
I hope we draft Yi. He will be a stud.
Unfortunately, I think the C’s are going to move Theo and #5 for Marion and #24. Either that, or they will move down with Charlotte for #8 and #22.

The Lakers and Celtics are living in parallel universes right now with each of their star players wanting out and each team not being able to make a deal to keep their star. A difference of course is that NBA players actually want to play for the Lakers vs. the Cs.
by The Real Large James on Jun 26, 2007 4:07 PM EDT reply actions
The Celtics won’t make any moves unless they can guarantee a contract extension. They don’t want to rent Marion, KG, or anyone else for a year or two with the kind of player they could get in this year’s draft.
Can we just fast forward to Thursday, please? Pretty please?
by Green Bear on Jun 26, 2007 4:18 PM EDT reply actions
I guess I wouldnt mind Noah. But who really knows anymore. All the overanalyzing can make your head spin. Hollinger’s new draft player ranking was pretty interesting and Brewer didn’t even come close
by whales on Jun 26, 2007 4:24 PM EDT reply actions
Diaw = Overrated Can you say Nash factor?
We don’t need more picks which equal more young projects. What we need is one stud player at #5, or a veteran that matters.

The fact that Danny is in Phoenix scares me.
Yi, Brewer, Hoford, Conley, even B Wright in a C uniform will make me happy next year. Build around Al.

That would be great— I like Diaw and think he is being wasted now that Amare has returned—but Diaw is a BYC player. Doesn’t work under the CBA. Same for Barbosa— they are both very difficult to trade before July 1, 2008 unless its a big milti-player deal.
Conley, Wright, Horford in a C’s uniform, I can deal with. Brewer I’ve been thinking is overrated right now – a solid single, but we should be able to do better in a draft this loaded.
Yi scares me as well. Have there been any sucessful Dirk-Nowitski type players EXCEPT for Dirk? You need the right coach. Yi on Golden State, with Don Nelson, makes sense. here, it makes none.

That video was pretty cool. I like the 3 minute drill. I think I’ll add that to my Fall practices this season. Brewer looks kind of small. Brandan Wright could very well be a bust. I like Thorton. I wish we could get some sweetheart offer where we could trade down for him and maybe get a future first. I also wouldn’t mind trading pierce, so we could come away with a couple of these players.
How come no talk about trading for Kirilenko with Ratliff’s contract, or Pursuing R. Lewis in Free agency. I think we can get the veterans we need without giving up the assets we already have.
Draft Brewer
Trade for Kirilenko
Sign R. Lewis
You get two good post players (Both former All Stars) and your Defense gets a whole lot better with Brewer and Kirilenko. Plus, these seem like deals that the C’s won’t get shafted on.

Just a thought, I’m sure others have had the same idea. How about Pierce to the Lakers for Bynum, Odom, and the 19th pick in the draft? I’m sure Pierce would love to go home and play next to Bryant. The Celtics could pair Bynum with Jefferson for the next 10 years. Then pick up Brewer with the 5th pick.

So how much luxury tax do yopu want to pay? You are up to about 23-245 million in 2008-2009. You’d better check with Wyc First.

Well then, Trade Szczerbiak & Telfair for Kirilenko. Keep Ratliff and Sign R. Lewis.
That work better Brick? Pierce is looking for veterans. There’s two that who actually wouldn’t mind playing here.

I thought Diaw’s contract extension kicked in for next season? If it doesn’t, the Suns really are screwed. Ainge should just wait until the trading deadline and offer up Theo, Gomes and Powe for Marion.
Mike
Yea, your right. Wally was much better than Kirilenko last year. I guess we wouldn’t want to give him up. And Kirilenko loves playing for the Jazz… so I guess they wouldn’t want to do a deal either.
by Mister Lucky on Jun 26, 2007 6:08 PM EDT reply actions
The fact is no one outside of this board has talked about Kirlenko going to the Celtics. I don’t think that Danny likes him and I don’t think Wyc wants another Raef like contract for a guy who used to average 18 points a game. All the talk about Kirlenko is truely idle chat. It will never happen and truthfully considering Kirlenko’s season last year, it probably shouldn’t.

Don’t forget the NBA is a business, and Danny is fighting for his job. One market that every US company is trying to get their hands on currently is the new Chinese middle class that is developing- and Yi could be the key to that. Even if he bombs, which he will IMO (anyone else having Stojko Vrankovich and his 46 inch vertical leap flashbacks?), enough Celtics shirts will be sold in Beijing before he even takes the floor to make him a very attractive pick(or investment). Especially if they can’t land the veteran that PP is demanding and they have to trade him away.
Sports are always about the money, so keep that in mind while you are shaking your head and muttering ‘why?’ after the Celts draft Yi and doom themselves to another rebuilding year/decade/generation.
by Forever 16 on Jun 26, 2007 6:32 PM EDT reply actions
Forever 16,
Yi is not Stojko. Yi really can play basketbal unlike Stojko who had no basketball skills whatsoever and was signed solely because of his considerable athleticism. Yi is a proven player in international competetion. International competetition is the real deal. If you don’t beleive that, go ask the various groups of hip hop street game NBA allstars that have had the cans handed to them over the last decade. I don’t know if Yi will be a star. You can never tell who will be a star. But, Yi can play and won’t be the Takisvili like stiff people are afraid he will be. Any guy who can shoot and finish as well as he does at his size will at least be a passable NBA player.
by JohnCK on Jun 26, 2007 6:36 PM EDT reply actions
Honestly I would deal Pierce for Bynum, Kwame, and the 19 pick at this point. We’d clear up a ton of salary by next season and we’d add a center prospect better than anyone we are currently planning on drafting. Add a #5 pick of Green, Brewer, or Conley Jr. plus someone decent will fall to 19 (an area of the draft where Danny has had past success drafting at) and we finally have a squad for the future that we can build up like the bulls did. 4 years ago ron mercer was the best the best they could do in free agency but now that their winning they can have their pick of Kobe or Garnett if they wanted.
I also feel Diaw is a good player. He is a very good passer for his size and between him, Marion and Nash helped get Phoenix through the Amare-less year a couple of seasons ago. He was the point center on that team. Kurt Thomas is on a one year deal also. I could see both of them plus #24 & #29 coming here for Ratliff, West and #5. Not likely but I could see Ainge doing it. Then Danny would be dancing on the trade floor with 24, 29 & 32 to move up.
Brick has his off-moments, but he’s been strong here about pushing for more defensive-minded players… and I’m becoming more attached to that line of thought.
Defensive players tend to be better teammates, generating better chemistry and communication. Because they’re more dependent on their teammates, they’re less likely to seek trades. They’re also less likely to be focused on their stats than offensive-minded guys. And, they’re more consistent. Offense comes and goes, but defense is generally there. Finally, between two players of equal value, the more offensive-minded one is likely to command more money and years. So a team stocked with defensive players is likely to have a healthier and more balanced payroll.
So maybe I’m off the Yi bandwagon and ready to think about somebody like Brewer.
Get used to the idea, if the Celtic’s use their #5, the pick will be Yi (provided he’s still there). Not much has been said recently about #32 and the type of player that we’d be targeting there. No dpubt it will be the best player available but the mix of players likely to be there may be so close in talent that we’d likely draft for need. Davis (LSU) is 6’8" with considerable bulk (slimmed to 280lbs.) and talent and could drop.

Keep the pick and Keep Big Al give up next years pick; minny’s pick; all second round picks for two years; theo whatever is need from the list of telfair gomes and green to get best available veteran who plays the four or five.

Looking more likely that the C’s are going to trade for Marion and one of the Suns picks in a 3-way with the Wolves, pending Marion signing an extension.
Rondo, Allen, Pierce, Marion, Jefferson…..very small, but would certainly be a much improved team…bench of Wally/Gomes/Perk/West isn’t all that bad either. Again, a very short team if they can’t make another move….the ultimate follow-up would be to package the Suns pick/32/and maybe a player to move up for Sean Williams….then we would really have something going.
A straight-up deal for Marion would be a good thing — it means Al is staying put. I’m guessing, if we do the deal, it’s gonna be the #5, Theo, Gerald, and either DWest or Bassy Gomes, and maybe Minny’s future #1. I’m hoping it doesn’t include Delonte, but if Danny’s desparate, it might.
