Tony Allen Update
Celtics.com has a nice article on Tony Allen's rehab. Says he's on pace to come back by training camp (but somehow that seems optimistic to me).
ACL injuries typically require about 12-18 months of recovery time, but everyone's body is different, and different knees can be pushed harder and respond differently during a rehabilitation process. With swelling that completely hid his knee cap, Allen started his rehab right after his January 13 surgery with light, non-weight-bearing exercises. The workouts slowly picked up in intensity as he regained range of motion in the joint and strength in the surrounding muscles.
Allen is expected to be ready to go in time for training camp in October.
I just hope he takes his time and gets it right.

I also hope that he learns to stop playing when the whistle blows.

FYI, that is the first time I have ever seen in writing that an ACL injury takes 12-18 months to heal. I’ve worked in the ski industry for 8 years and see ACL tears in November and those people skiing in April. I think that’s a bit of an off assessment.

I don’t believe a thing until I hear it from the mouth of Tanguay.

He’s gotta go. Expiring contract…
Please o please don’t draft J Wright. Same type of player, shows flashes then turns the ball over 3 straight times at an important time.
As for the knee he did the Lateral minuscus which adds to the recovery. I blew my knee out (Anterior and Medial) and was back in 5 months (avg 6-9 months) but you throw in the lateral and it’s a good 8 months plus.
I was courtside for 2 games. The game Tony blew out his knee (vintage TA dumb move) and Toronto game Garbajosa (sp) messed his leg up. Wrong games to be up close…nasty!
Tony Telfair Theo = a max salary…time to trade that in!

Hope everything goes well for Tony. As we saw with his previous knee injury, though, even if the injury’s healed by opening day, it will likely take him a year to regain the strength in his legs. He’s got a tough road ahead.

This is actually a very important point.
I’d imagine/hope that he has learned that valuable lesson.
If Tony Allen comes back healty
and able to play as he was prior to that stupid move,
then this is huge news…
…because he was playing the part of lock down defender,
spark plug off the bench, explosive moves to the hole, player.
That addition to this roster will be highly welcomed.
I can’t wait.
A healthy TA makes such a big difference to this team. The last time we made the playoffs TA was starting and RDavis was our six man. Just imagine, if TA can brings it the way he used to, we get us a scoring first mentallity six man(and I am not talking Scal…I am thinking more to the lines of Mo Peterson), plus AL Rondo Pierce and KP…man oh man….
I remember two summers ago I called Tony Allen’s emergence as the key to the C’s season — that was before his FIRST knee injury. (Remember that?)
I love the guy’s potential but he’s the classic Ainge add-on: active, interesting, does no one thing great but a few things well, and now he’s got two bum knees.
He’s a non-factor to me, sad to say…
As in his last recovery from injury, it starts with PHYSICAL healing but the next hurdle is PSYCHOLOGICAL healing. Until Tony stops worrying about reinjury and starts playing with abandon, he won’t be ready to give meaningful minutes.

the way tony was playing last year at the end, he was going full bore to the hole in his herky jerky way and landing off kilter several times. i can see him like that again, but i wonder if he starts that too soon, wouldn’t he put himself at serious risk? either trade him now or take your time with him and make really sure the knees are game ready.
this is great news. anyone who doesn’t recognize just how effective a player tony allen can be must not have been watching his play when paul went down last season. He was darn near impossible to stop from getting to the rim, got to the line a ton, oh and was a lockdown defender on the other end. I have little faith he’ll be at this level at training camp. but if maybe by the all-star break? pencil us in for a playoff spot along with a healthy Paul and Al.
