No Joe, But Looking For Bigs
The Celtics had nothing cooking as today’s veteran free agent signing period opened.
A big man still is atop their wish list, but don’t expect it to be Joe Smith. The club is said to be shopping hard for someone to share time with Kendrick Perkins [stats] in the pivot, but it was not involved in any major talks yesterday.
Said one GM, "It seems pretty quiet out there. There are discussions going on, but I’m not sure how much big stuff is going to happen right away - other than what we already know with Grant Hill (signing with Phoenix) and Rashard Lewis (signing with Orlando) and those guys. I think this could get more interesting in a week or two."

Not getting Mike Conley, not getting Corey Brewer, the departure of D West for yet another overpaid veteran swingman with questionable wheels, the coaching situation, the complete lack of defense, Rondo’s poor play yesterday, the trade rumors involving every journeymen and has-been in the league, the silence with respect to Jefferson’s extension….
Not getting Conley was just the tip of the iceberg.
It would be nice to hear that we’re atleast throwing our hat in the Brevin Knight ring, but even that hasn’t happened yet.

All we need now is for the Real GM to express a renewed desire for Mr. 38% (from the foul line as well as the floor), and Danny won’t be able to do his bidding fast enough. For once Brickowski is understating how dismal things are in the process of becoming.

Frankly, I think the focus of enmity in here should shift a bit from Doc (duh) and Danny (becoming a no-brainer) and onto Wyc, whose behavior (and relationship with other owners) continually appears to hamper a GM still dealing with a stacked deck. On a good day Telfair’s a pill, but this whole nameplate thing is unfathomable. And I can’t help think that Wyc had some hand in Danny’s re-signing Doc (a money decision if there ever were), and now this Greek point guard non-signing. More and more it appears that stupidity and bottom-line decisions/non-decisions from Wyc are hurting Danny as much as Danny’s own moves.
So, with Wyc around, do we really expect to get a quality player?
