I just realized it. After all these years of trying to figure out who Ray Allen looks like. Its Mos Def. they could be cousins.

[Ray] See, I told you I’m still fast even at 32; my left hand’s a BLUR for crying out loud.
[Danny] Ray Allen is still faster than anyone in this league.
[Doc] Hahahaha, Danny you so crazy! (god please i hope this works)

7th or 8th seed is our best case scenario.

I say we’re a top 5 Eastern team right now- Detroit, Miami, Chicago, Cleveland

by tb727 on Jul 2, 2007 3:55 PM EDT reply actions

top 5 eastern team. oh, boy. we might make the playoffs this year and do just well enough to stay mediocre for another year after that. that was worth passing up a top 5 pick in a loaded draft for.

People underestimate the effect a plaer like Allen will have on other players. His ability to shoot and spread teh floor will make Rondo, Perkins and Jefferson all better players. It is more than just 40 minutes a game and 26 points. The Celtics got an allstar who should be productive for the remaining three years on his contract while giving up no one of anywhere near the same level of talent. I really dont’ see all the whining over this.

by JohnCK on Jul 2, 2007 4:35 PM EDT reply actions

yea this isnt another wally, its ray allen for crying out loud. arguably pierce is still better, but they are both top notch caliber players. perenial all stars. this tam is really close to putting something special together.

Everything about this picture sums up our next season. Happiness. Ray looks happy to be here, doc and danny happy to have him. I am so excited for this upcoming season. I think we can finish first in our division, get the third seed and move into the playoffs with a first round home court advantage. There are blue skies ahead for us after a long draught of bad luck and stormy seas.

Ah, happy valley, it’s all good. 37 wins will be like nirvana. Rivers for coach of the year!!

by Brickowski on Jul 2, 2007 4:56 PM EDT reply actions

No Way! This team takes the Atlantic.

You can’t possibly double PP, Ray, and Al. You gotta pick your poison. Ray Allen is the best perimeter shooter in the game. This is gonna free up Al in the post, open driving lanes for Pierce, and driving lanes for the lightning quick Rondo. Perk and Gomes are gonna get a ton of easy looks under the basket.

This team will be an offensive juggernaut. Now if they can add a defensive minded rebounding machine at the 5, like a Camby or Mutumbo, we’ll have a legit shot in the East.

Bummer that so many hardcore fans are so dedicated to losing.

Our team has improved, get over it.

he isn’t wearing an ankle boot is he?

by Master Po on Jul 2, 2007 5:11 PM EDT reply actions

No, Po.

He’s wearing 2. One on each ankle.

by Cousin It on Jul 2, 2007 5:14 PM EDT reply actions

Ray Allen is much better than any of the players we would have gotten with the five pick, people forget how bad the celtics were last year, you cant keep drafting low lottery picks and expect to win anything, you gotta try to win now or you get stuck in this rebuilding cycle…

Ray Allen ..My Boy!!

If only we drafted “Insert European/Spanish Player That Brick Pretends To Be An Expert On,” then we’d be on our way…Brick for GM of the year!!!!

The big winner in the Ray Allen trade was Delonte West, not the Celtics.

by Brickowski on Jul 2, 2007 6:25 PM EDT reply actions

I saw the Ray Allen interview and heard the comments. What impressed me the most is the high level of intelligence that Ray Allen displayed and his incisive description of what it’s like (mentally) making split-second decisions in the fast paced NBA game (like dodging meterorites in outter space).

There is little doubt that Allen has an especially high basketball IQ and he’ll likey function as another COACH on the floor. I liked his comment to Doc too… “you don’t have to call plays for me….I’ll get my points in the flow of the game”…I’ve just decided that this dude is going to be one exciting cerebral player to watch.

I also liked the question he was dying to ask but withheld for fear of upstaging Danny’s plans. I’m referring to Allen’s curiosity about Danny’s perceived direction for the team and perhaps the “other” missing pieces that will be added. This isn’t a guy coming here to just collect a paycheck, he wants to be an “insider” so that he can best support the vision.

Allen also feels that he’s recovering very nicely from his surgery and the only thing holding him back from going “full force” is the Doctor’s permission to do so.

Brick,

When you are not telling us how all of the Celtics young players are nothing but rotation guys at best, you are telling us how the one young guy the Celtics have traded is “the big winner” in the trade. Which is it? Come on at least try to be consistent. I read this forum all of the time and you have been dissing Delonte for years. Now, that the Celtics trade him, you are on here saying he is going to be this great player. BS!!@

by JohnCK on Jul 2, 2007 6:45 PM EDT reply actions

I’ll love him more when I see him play healthy.

by Big_Easy on Jul 2, 2007 6:50 PM EDT reply actions

Delonte West will be the big winner because he;‘s a talented, motivated kid who was obviously being shunted aside in Boston. Contrary to the assertion that he was Doc Rvers’ “pet,” it was clear after the Celtics acquired Telfair and drafted Rondo that the Celtics did not view Delonte as the point guard of the future. They handed the job to Telfair and gave it back to West out of desperation. Then after Tony Allen got hurt they handed the job to Rondo and moved Delonte to sg.

He was going to be traded this Summer, as I said in multiple posts last year. Seattle is the perfect place for him. He’ll be playing for a new coach, with an exciting young team, and he will have the chance to show what he can do.

Here’s another prediction: if the Sonics hire P.J., Seattle will win more games than Boston next year. They’ve got Kevin Durant plus some good young talent, including Brandon Roy, Robbert Swift and Nick Collison. Carlisimo is a good coach who will know how to utilize high BBIQ players like West and Collison.

If they hire Dwayne Casey, they won’t do nearly as well, but it will still be a great opportunity for West.

by Brickowski on Jul 2, 2007 6:59 PM EDT reply actions

I meant Chris Wilcox, not Brandon Roy lol. I also like Damien Wilkins. Good defender.

Do you know why Delonte wasn’t the point guard of the future? He’s not skilled enough at the point guard position. Don’t let facts cloud your judgement.

Well, let’s see how he does in Seattle.

I’m very excited about this. I think it’s starting to sink in for me that having another veteran all-star is going to be great for the young guys. Ray Allen sounds like he really wants to teach them to win which is awesome.

We still ned some upfront beffy defensein a shot blocker, rebounder preferably 7’0" or taller and weighing at least 250lbs. I say trade telfair and gomes and allen ray for three second rounders and enter the Darko sweepstakes. while Garnett would be nice and welcomed by me. we need to keep a balance to secure our future. Darko would fit in well long term. whereas telfair gomes and allen ray does not- like Delonte West Didn’t.

Just saw the Tanguay/Dickerson interview with Ray Allen and I am so impressed I can hardly breath! Bring on the season, we have our team leader! I kept saying (despite the record) that I enjoyed last years team more than any in the last ten years…and now maybe we can add “winning” to “exciting” as adjectives to describe the team. Go Celts, and Stay Healthy! I think it was a really good trade, although I will miss Delonte and wish him much success.

There is a skit on Saturday Night Live whose main character is named “Debbie Downer.” Have you seen it? You should check it out sometime. Oh, and by the way, Brickowski plays the role of Debbie.
