Allan Ray Will Play In Italy
Beating Stephon Marbury to his dream, Allan Ray has signed with an Italian team. He also avoids the inevitable cut that was coming in a few days. Shira Springer reports:
Allan Ray will play overseas upon agreeing to a two-year contract with Italian Serie A team Lottomatica Roma worth $2 million, a league source said yesterday.
The deal is a significant pay increase for Ray, who would have earned $687,456 with the Celtics next season. Boston had until Wednesday to decide whether to pick up the option on the guard's contract.

I watched a little of the Italian league championship and the players are just terrible. It is definitely below Division 1 talent.
I guess you’ve watched very little…

Allan Ray is lucky that the scouts for that Italian team didn’t watch him play in Summer league. Ray is a one-trick pony, and when the trick isn’t working, he’s completely useless.
I wouldn’t get excited about the 2 million, either. Money in Europe has a way of not being guaranteed or to be contingent upon incentives, etc. My guess is that the guaranteed portion of his compensation is considerably less than the reported number.
in any case, i am happy for him and hope he gets a nice pay day and playing time. he did nothing that really hurt the team, but contributed by playing hard.
i liked ray and was happy the team had his as the 15th guy. ainge likes to have a few players that are low-risk gambles. not many of the pan out, but occasionally some do. (ala gomes and maybe powe and big baby.)
that he can not make this year’s team means, to me, that the celtics are better and deeper this season. that is even better.
good luck to him.

I’m still preaching Defense as the key to this team’s success. This bothers me knowing how little the top 3 players play defense. This will make Doc’s job allot harder; first off Paul, Ray and Al’s foot speed is not the greatest for them to be able to properly play defense and that’s why they rely on rotating.
With the addition of Allen we haven’t spoken about the offense as much, meaning you’ll be seeing a very slow team instead of an up-tempo team. Rondo will be leading the pack and everyone else will be behind him, and you’ll see lot’s more of a half court offense with this group.
There is so much more we need to know about this team (1) How will they jell together as a cohesive unit (2) Are they willing to play defense (let me put it this way “Can they”) (3) Which of the young corps is willing to take the next step as Jefferson did last season (4) Which Jefferson will show up for training camp, can we expect him to get better (5) Is Rondo ready to take more of a lead role, or will we find that either Pierce or Allen will be running the show instead ala Antoine Walker when he was here playing the point/forward (6) Can Perkins handle the center spot effectively, not looking at him scoring as I am more rebounding and defensively, and who will the 6th man off the bench be, and finally there’s Doc (god love him, he is the wild card in all this)
I’ll be there next week. I wonder if he wants any pointers on where to eat, what hot spots are best, and which chics to stay away from. ;D

I think that is good for him. I can’t wait to see what is like when he comes back to the NBA. ;D

why so much hatred toward Ray. he was a signed last year as a deep bench player, taking up alomost no salary, and had to play a bigger role than he should have due to injuries. it’s not like they wasted a high pick on him or signed him to big money. he’s a marginally talented bench guy who did what he was asked last year. good for him and good luck to him.

Ancient Red, Dallas and Phoenix don’t play much defense and they do pretty well. We aren’t good enough at D that is for sure but let’s not overrate it. This is the NBA. Defense wins in the NFL and pitching wins in baseball, but outscoring the other guy is the name of the game in the NBA.

Not in the playoffs it isn’t. Dallas made it to the finals once and got beat by a Miami team that probably wasn’t a championship level squad. Phoenix has yet to make it although Stoudemire and D’Antoni continue to cry about the suspension as if they would have beaten the Spurs anyway.
The other NBA flavor of the year – Golden State – was beaten by Utah, a more disciplined defensive team than Dallas by far.
If the C’s do make the playoffs and I still consider them less than even money to do so, lack of a strong defense will not allow them past the first round. The wrong Allen will be taking up most of the shooting guard minutes. I’d much rather have Tony in there, someone who can effectively guard some of the big scoring wing players.

It is definitely below Division 1 talent. (rickyfan 3.0)
I don’t know if a comment like this should make me laugh or cry…. again, rickyfan, is the NBA in the position to despise Eurobasketball, after the so called “Dream Team” got bashed three times, from Indianapolis to Athens to Japan? If LeBron and Iverson got whipped by “Division 2 talent”, maybe the NBA right now is mostly made by Division 3 talent…… stop underestimating the rest of the world, that’s the first step to conquer the “alpha dog” role again.
Hi,I’m from Rome,and i’m a supporter of Lottomatica Roma.
Please tell me something about Allan Ray and his skills.
Thank you very much
P.S.Sorry for my english 8)
