Pruitt Agrees To Terms
The Celtics have agreed to terms with second-round pick Gabe Pruitt.
Negotiations with fellow second-rounder Glen Davis are said to be ongoing, but neither side anticipates a problem.
Pruitt, taken 32nd overall, will be brought along slowly as the Celts work with him at the point.
Davis, chosen at No. 35, could take a bigger role — especially if he loses more weight and gets in better shape.
Danny Ainge said the club expected to have the two signed soon, and it appears now their signatures won’t hit the contracts until after the holiday weekend.
They also officially signed Thibodeau.
Update: Marc Spears has the details:
The Celtics are happy with the terms of the contract for Pruitt, which is expected to pay $650,000 this upcoming season, $711,517 during the 2008-09 season and $729,005 during the 2009-10 season.

I’ll never for the life of me understand why you draft an obvious 2 guard and try to make him a point. It almost never works, and usually winds up being a wasted pick, ala Joe Forte.

3 year deal, but I wonder if all 3 years are guaranteed
Jeff, why did you file this under “humor”? Because the idea of Pruitt getting any minutes on this squad is a joke?

Our available money remains short yet we OVERPAY for an apparent BUST at PG. If Pruit fails alot of experts are going to have red faces. If he succeeds, it will most likely be at SG because he lacks the handles, creativity and passing instincts of a PG….End of story!

Jeff, why did you save the best news for the last sentense?…That Tom Thibodeau was officially signed….of much more importance to the Celtic’s future than the signing of Pruit IMHO.
The next shoe to drop will be the signing of Davis, last year’s projected late lottery pick, who continued to justify his selection at 35 with stellar SL play. It’s become apparent that he’ll have a greater impact with the Celtic’s than will Pruit.
Judging by SL play, Davis justified last year’s hype (projected late lottery) but Pruit (projected this year at 22) did not, perhaps because he’s a natural SG and lacked the versatility to play the point?

There’s a major reason why relatively short college two guards (like Pruitt) seldom develop into adequate pro point guards. It’s the fact that they’re trying to acquire ball-handling skills at the wrong time of their life.
Years ago, someone wrote a research-based book called something like ‘’Why Michael Jordan Can’t Hit a Curveball.‘’ The book’s thesis was that the brain of an athelete is best suited to acquiring certain physical skills at certain ages. But if a player isn’t on the right development track, then he won’t come close to fully learning certain things.
As an example, this was supposedly why Jordan, one of the most gifted of atheletes, couldn’t learn to hit a curve ball in the minor leagues. His commitment to basketball as a kid, caused him to miss a developmental stage as a youth baseball player.
Either your brain gets properly wired up as a kid to be a smooth point guard, or it doesn’t. If you start too late in life, you can do all the ball-handling drills you want, but under pressure you won’t perform automatically like the kid who was dribbling with his off hand since he was seven.
Gabe Pruitt is a ‘tweener guard. Nothing wrong with that. DJ was a ’tweener guard, too, and he turned out OK. So was Joe Dumars. I liked what I saw of Pruitt in the SL. No, he didn’t dominate the league, but I didn’t expect him to, either. He played smart basketball. He stayed in his game, didn’t try to do anything outside his current skill level. What’s wrong with that? Moskqq, did you go to college with Pruitt and he stuffed you in a locker or something? I’m joking with you; you just seem very spiteful towards him, and I fail to understand why. The Celtics are not spending millions on the kid. Ainge saw something he likes, and I trust his judgment on NBA talent more than anyone posting on this site. Pruitt is such a minor player compared to everyone else on that roster.
