Posey Suspended One Game

RealGM reporting

James Posey of the Boston Celtics has been suspended without pay for one game for pleading no contest to reckless driving, in violation of the law of the State of Florida, the NBA announced today.

Posey will serve his suspension when the Celtics open the 2007-08 regular season against Washington on Nov. 2 at TD Banknorth Garden.

Here are some more details on the Posey reckless driving situation (from Aug 28 Herald)

Speaking of which, the 6-foot-8 Xavier product had to defend himself against drunken driving charges in Miami after an April arrest. But he steadfastly maintained he was innocent and ended up pleading guilty to a lesser charge of reckless driving.

Ainge said he investigated the matter.

"My finding is that I just feel very confident that James is a good teammate," he said. "He’s a good guy in the locker room, and I’m confident about who he is. (The incident) is behind him. I asked James about it and I talked to a lot of other people, too. We’re very comfortable with what we found out."

Update: Posey will fight the suspension

hmmm… We’ll miss him in the oponer.

Although I agree with Danny that this isn’t such a big deal (considering the info us fans have), those were some classic comments by Ainge. He obviously was going to give little importance to the matter ;)

Ah, a nice, uneventful start to the season, then. Good vibes all around. Start of on the right foot and such.

My sympathies with Posey though, some cops will claim some outrageous things for reckless driving tickets. And yes, I glean this from personal experience.

It’s funny that every article mentions he’s 6-8. Unless Ainge was standing on a stool in that pic this site ran a few days ago, he appears to be a Barkley-esque 6-8 … meaning he’s closer to 6-4.

Ainge beter make sure that Posey doesn’t drive Pierce or Garnett to work.

Reckless driving? That’s what all the fuss is about? If he truly was DWI, then they would have busted him for it. This is a non-story. Something to fill a page, nothing more.

I first saw this article on Yahoo Sports. Right above it was an article on the 10 most overpaid players in the NBA. Four of them were former Celtics: Wally; Toine; Raef; Theo.

thats just a dumb suspension honestly.

Wally; Toine; Raef; Theo

what do all those guys have in common? all helped get KG and Allen to Boston in one way or another

money well spent!

Jeff

No issues here just glad they are gone.

He’s not 6-4. He had about two inches on Ainge. Big deal; so Ainge is probably not 6-4, maybe 6-3 and maybe Posey’s about 6-6 or 6-7. Everyone lies about their height in the NBA.
Moving on…
Not happy with this development. Last thing we need is a guy with injury and character issues, if that’s the case. Probably not the case, but still…

I’ve sat and talked with Ainge for a while and he seemed about 6’4’’ to me.

For what it’s worth, Ainge use to be listed as 6 foot 5 in his playing days and he no doubt had his high-heel sneakers on that day (to go along with a wig-hat on his head…)

It feels like in the pros, the players claim their height with
their shoes on, everyone is an inch and a half taller
than their college measurements, the fans need to look
up to the pros so the league is cool with it.

bad Friday for Boston fans – 1. Posey, 2. Harrison, 3. Sox lose again

I hope he does appeal so he doesnt have to miss the opener. It would be nice to stick him on Gilbert and win the opener with ease.
