Saras Rumor

WarriorsWorld.net is reporting:

Speaking of Jasikevicius, the Boston Celtics are actively speaking to the Warriors in hopes of landing the seldom used Pg. Boston has offered Glen "Big Baby" Davis and/or Leon Powe but the Warriors have been reluctant thus far. Stay Tuned

I hope not. Garnett is going to love Leon and Big Baby. And we need some youth. Jasik hasn’t got an NBA game apparently. Sound familiar? We don’t need another Dickau, Telfair etc

I agree. I don’t think he’s worth trading either of those two. I’d trade Pruitt or House, but not any of our bigs.

by Green Bear on Sep 14, 2007 7:33 AM EDT reply actions

History has a way of repeating itself. Sometimes it isn’t getting the trade you want but NOT getting the deal you want that proves the better result. That two teams could not find PT for Jasikevicius should tell you that Ainge is trying to make another ill advised move.

by moskqq on Sep 14, 2007 7:38 AM EDT reply actions

Don’t like it. Not the least bit. 2 prospects for a 30-year old nobody. Yikes.

by kozlodoev on Sep 14, 2007 7:45 AM EDT reply actions

Don’t do it, Danny! >:(

by Bankshot on Sep 14, 2007 7:49 AM EDT reply actions

I can appreciate the notion that Jasikevicius will never be a starting point guard in the NBA – and maybe not even an adequate back-up. But then, Steve Nash didn’t dazzle anyone in his earliest years, either. And somehow, I can’t see Leon Powe or Glen Davis ever being starters either. Just sayin’.

by no kidding on Sep 14, 2007 8:12 AM EDT reply actions

Steve Nash, however, didn’t enter the league when he was 29 years old, though.

by kozlodoev on Sep 14, 2007 8:15 AM EDT reply actions

Can’t believe they’d offer both of them together—and how will the salaries work?

by clover on Sep 14, 2007 8:17 AM EDT reply actions

I like it- I really think Saras would be an awesome fit. I wouldn’t want to relinquish both Powe and Davis but I’m not sure it’d work otherwise.

by tb727 on Sep 14, 2007 8:18 AM EDT reply actions

Hell no. Saras is trash. He is one of the worst players in the game. I’d rather have Oriene Green back..

by Sweet17 on Sep 14, 2007 8:18 AM EDT reply actions

What this tells me is that they have no intention of ever playing “small” with KG at the center position. If KG is at the 4, then those guys become rather expendable because they’d rarely see the court (I don’t care how old KG is, he’s playing 40 minutes a night).

by migit on Sep 14, 2007 8:22 AM EDT reply actions

Saras is making 4 mil a year the only way the celts can get him is if they put Scal in the deal. In which case I wouldn’t mind giving up Powe or Davis but not both

by Byrdman on Sep 14, 2007 8:26 AM EDT reply actions

This would constitute a bad move.

by Luke Middleton on Sep 14, 2007 8:28 AM EDT reply actions

4 mill a year is too much for this guy…he may be a decent option, but how much do we really know about him? I know that some people have been big proponents of his, and now it seems like he isn’t even worth one of our non-rotation players? a lot of questions here…

by jambr380 on Sep 14, 2007 9:16 AM EDT reply actions

I don’t think it’s even possible. What is their roster like now? Wouldn’t the warriors have to make a cut if we were to give up Scal and Powe? I mean they love Powe in Oakland, but is Scal suited for nellieball?

by FrieCod on Sep 14, 2007 9:18 AM EDT reply actions

Yeah, it would have to be Scal and one of Powe or Davis for it to work financially. That would also free up a little extra money after this year as this is Saras’ last year. I guess the Warriors might be interested in something like that in order to get a middling big prospect…they do need size.

by nebist on Sep 14, 2007 9:34 AM EDT reply actions

The Warriors want a mobile big that can shoot-sounds like Davis would be there choice…however, this “source” is highly unreliable…it’s no secret that the C’s have had interest in Saras for a while and he does fit in as a playmaker better than Eddie House, but it’s doubtful the team would be looking to part with 2 prospects for him…

I know the team doesn’t covet Glen Davis the way some on the message boards believe, but i’d have trouble believing they’d be willing to trade both Scal and Davis in order to obtain Saras…the C’s would be left with Perk/Pollard and KG/Powe in the frontcourt depth-wise and 2 of the players have injury track histories that would make the depth a bit precarious….

However, the team DOES have the bi-annual to spend and there are a couple of bigs still available, including Brian Skinner who can play both frontcourt positions…so it may not be out of this world to expect some type of exchange where the C’s get Saras AND a 2nd rounder or something like that…still not sure of the likelyhood though…

Rondo/Saras/House
Allen/Allen/House
Pierce/Posey/Allen
KG/Powe/Posey!?!
Perk/Pollard/KG

…it seems like Eddie House or Tony Allen would be regulated to situational sub based off a trade such as this…it is highly unlikely that Boston would trade two players for Saras if HE were to be the situational sub…

Could be that getting rid of Scal’s contract is the objective here, with the team eyeing next year’s MLE and seeing Saras/House off the books would make it easier to spend that money…who knows, perhaps they’re satisfied to let the players battle it out and win jobs…

Saras has had a major opportunity in Indiana with a half-court offense with a much better coach than we have. He didn’t do much there. He may have more upside, but not any more than Davis, a multiskilled player in a big body.

by iowa plowboy on Sep 14, 2007 10:51 AM EDT reply actions

jeez, if they have to give up Scal and one of the young big guys, that seems steep. We’d be so thin up front, especially considering Perk’s injury history

by Cousin It on Sep 14, 2007 11:30 AM EDT reply actions

To make this deal work.We will have to offer more to make the cap work. How about either Powe(hometown guy)and Scal.Plus a couple of #2’s.We only want this guy for a year. Then next season we get a little cap relief.

by keith @ CelticsBlog on Sep 14, 2007 11:51 AM EDT reply actions

do not know much about saras- if it means anything, powe and big baby were our best summer leaguers. i really like powe and i would hope we get more than a one year fix for him.

by nazzbo on Sep 14, 2007 12:33 PM EDT reply actions

Trade doesn’t make any sense; since Scal would have to be involved, you’d be decimating all of our frontcourt depth to pick up a player who I wouldn’t mind having, but who could well not get off the bench. He’s proven less in the league than Eddie House. I really wonder – shouldn’t Saras have absolutely thrived playing Nellie-ball? Why didn’t it work there? Why didn’t it work in Indiana, which desperately needs help at the point?

Is he just a bigger Dickau? (huh, huh…)

Where the trade MIGHT make sense…. if they’re going to bring in someone like Skinner at the vet minimum. Then, you haven’t REALLY hurt the frontcourt depth too badly, and you’ve got another option at the 1. Still not sure I’d be happy with it, but leaving yourself with only Pollard and one of either BBD or Powe to back up the 4/5 would be absurd.

Oh, and it would give us more flexibility to pursue a later trade for Cassell or Stoudamire. We really ARE lacking in trade chips right now, Saras would be nice just for having his expiring deal. In a sense, he’s more valuable to the team making $4M per than if he’s bought out and we signed him for $1M.

by the_Bird on Sep 14, 2007 12:52 PM EDT reply actions

Wait until teams start cutting players and the Celtics can pick up an insurance PG then. Pruitt I would imagine will play in the NBDL part of the year to learn PG. We never have enough size so moving anyone like Powe or Davis would weaken the team.

Hmmm!
This is the only way it makes sense for us, but does G.S. really want Scalabrine?
Why wouldn’t they keep Sarus and use the expiring in their own deal?
Highly dubious.

I saw and spoke with Big Baby yesterday. I looked him up and down and said you’re not fat, he gave me a big grin. The guy looked in great shape! I’m not sure that translates into a better basketball player but he looked good (so didn’t the girl he was with).

EJPLAYA
I told him about our little dispute (3rd best passer on the team) he said he was going to set you straight and that I knew what I was talking about.

He comes across as a very nice kid, soft spoken and polite.

Yes Jeff, I told him all about this blog.

by Little D on Sep 14, 2007 2:44 PM EDT reply actions

Yes, dump Powe, dump Baby D. We need more minutes for Scal! WTF

No more double speak. We were told maybe 2 weeks ago that there would be probably no more changes and Danny happy with the point situation. If he really isn’t happy, don’t say squat (maybe something nuetral like we are keeping our options open, etc0. This guy form G.S. has been on the radar for leaving the Warriors for well over a month.

I don’t honestly know enough about him or see his play to form a good/bad opinion. I’m just saying if Perk gets hurt, it is all on Pollard and forcing KG to play center.

by docextension on Sep 14, 2007 4:10 PM EDT reply actions

Saras sucks. PERIOD. He’s too slow for the NBA. Why trade for him when he’s probably going to get bought out at some point during the year? Is Saras better than Hudson? In the words of Borat, NAHT! :)

by Real World on Sep 14, 2007 4:24 PM EDT reply actions

is an unproven european-style pg really worth the potential and upside of 2 big men?

by samkicks36 on Sep 14, 2007 10:03 PM EDT reply actions

I haven’t seen him play before but Saras looks pretty decent here on youtube:

Then again……Sebastian Telfair had me fooled when I was watching his Youtube clips too, so just remember to keep that in mind when watching this.
