Odom Suspended 1 Game
Lakers forward Lamar Odom was suspended by the league for one game Tuesday because of a flagrant foul on Boston Celtics guard Ray Allen last Sunday at Staples Center.
Odom will sit out Friday's game against Philadelphia and will also forfeit $120,441 in pay.

That’s still not enough of a punishment for my liking. Can we start a petition to suspend the league office for a few days for imposing such a lenient and laughable penalty? ;)

I know I have my green colored sunglasses on right now, but there are few other players and coaches who would respond with the same degree of class as Ray Allen and Doc Rivers have:
“I’ve never had any bad history with Lamar,” Allen said Tuesday. “After the play happened, a couple of his teammates came back on the floor and just wanted to make sure I was all right. … It was just uncalled for.”
“I just thought he (Odom) lost his composure,” Rivers said. “I didn’t think it was intended at Ray. Whoever had the ball was getting that. It wasn’t anything personal. Odom’s a good kid, a good guy.”
What reasoning did the league have for such a short suspension? Consider how the league dealt with the Kobe Bryant slapping incidents last season. Kobe wacked Marco Jaric in the face after taking a shot. The league suspended Bryant for one game, and NBA executive vice president Stu Jackson is quoted as saying that he “considered suspending him for multiple games.” That was merely a slap in the face, and Jaric himself didn’t even think it was intentional. Unlike the Odom incident, a flagrant foul was not given to Bryant. Now flashback to another Kobe incident earlier in the season. Kobe hit Manu Ginobli in the face after taking a shot. Kobe wasn’t even called for a foul on the play, and the league still felt it necessary to suspend Bryant.
Knowing how Braynt was treated by the NBA last year, how could Odom not have been suspended multiple games this year? Does the NBA only punish a player fairly when they think should do so for publicity reasons? For God’s sake, Odom intentionally charged at Ray Allen like a fullback making a block, and sent him flying to the ground in an obvious display of frustration. Kobe slapped a couple of players in the face on plays that might not have even been intentional. The first incident looked accidental enough for the ref not even to call a foul.
Keep in mind I’m of course not defending Kobe. I’m just scratching my head about the Odom incident.
Sorry for this post, but that is bullshit. Pardon the vernacular, but Odom threw a tackle on Ray and could very well have seriously injured him. He wasn’t going for the ball, didn’t even attempt to hide what he was doing. He simply ran over and bulldozed Ray Allen. This should have been 2 games minimum and $1 Mil fine.
Unbelievable.
Those refs and the way they called the game should all be under review. That was a terrible game that almost got out of hand and could have potentially seen players on both teams seriously injured. I think all 3 refs should be formally cited/reprimanded for the way in which they handled that game.
the refs were trying to manage the game handing out several technicals and calling it pretty close. odom clearly lost it. i didn’t hear any saint phil jackson quotes after the game but he should have made a very strong and critical comment about his player. i remember how saint phil manhandled havlicek when hondo had a bad shoulder in the plaoffs- strictly goon shots.
One game is fine….however, the ref should be out of the league for giving Ray a tech…the sad thing is that I don’t think any of the refs on the floor saw the play…just the aftermath..

I think 1 game is appropriate for that act. Does anyone else think that Odom was just trying to prove his manhood at the end of the game due to the spanking they were getting and the issue with the short shorts in the first half? ;D
